Cusword Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I am considering buying diesel a3 but I am confused. There are 140 or 170hp versions but how do I tell which one a car has from an advert. They all appear to be described as 2.0 tdi or whatever. What is the difference to achieve 170 hp. How do I tell looking under bonnet which engine it has? david
Trevor Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Hi David....welcome to the Forum The engine may be physically the same and the extra power is achieved through Electronic Control Unit mapping to squeeze out some more power. Another check to determine a little more about the vehicle is to use the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry online service which may shed some more light on it. Cheers Trevor
Richyu Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Doesn't the 140bhp cost £30 to tax and the 170bhp £110! So just type the region plate into dvla or webuyanycar. If you use the latter you get all details on the car and a estimate of value. 1
