Trevor Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Hi Chris...welcome to the Forum Can I ask what the symptoms are and are there any warning lamps and fault codes? Cheers Trevor
Bronco8459 Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Hi Trevor initially engine warning light comes on the heate plug light then goes into limp mode switch off and it can be fine all day cheers chris
Trevor Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 It could be the variable vanes in the turbo gummed up...you can get a special cleaner to run through it which should sort the problem. Below is a photo of the vane assembly which gums up and throws up the warning lamp and goes into limp home. Worse case scenario you can replace the ring assembly. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diesel-Turbo-Cleaner-Kit-POWERFUL-TURBO-CLEANING-KIT-Dissolves-Carbon-Limp-Mode-/281771781310?hash=item419ae82cbe:g:71UAAOSwHnFVzFxJ
Bronco8459 Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Hi Trevor I did have it terracleaned does that not do the same thing? Cheers Chris
Trevor Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 not sure whether TerraClean actually gets into the turbo nozzles...
Bronco8459 Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Hi Trevor I will buy a kit today and see how we get on...Will report back. REgards Chris 1
Bronco8459 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Hi I bought the turbo cleaning kit....is it a big job to do? On reading the info on line looks a bit tricky cheers Chris
Trevor Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Could do with feedback on this if you have the time as it would be interesting to other members with the same problem.
Bronco8459 Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 Well I used the turbo cleaner bit more evolved than you would think. When you make up the template to cover the turbo out let the nuts do not pinch up enough to hold it in place so I taped it as best I could I did ensure the vanes etc got a good dunking turning the rotor and manually operating the variable parts all seems ok so far and have given the car a good run to be honest I don't think it has resolved my issues. Trevor Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Thanks for the feedback...maybe it takes a bit of time with the carbon being loosened up and need to blow it through at high boost speeds?
Bronco8459 Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 Hi Trevor that's my thinking too as with most things on the A8 it can take 400/500 miles before all settles down I will comment further... 1
