KEVFRST Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I've 2010 3.0, today I moved my Q7 from the roadside to my drive and turned it off. Mrs used it for a 3 mile trip earlier but was cold when I moved it. After turning it off, I could smell exhaust gasses and noticed smoke/exhaust type gas coming from under the front passenger door from what looks like a vent. Never noticed this before. Should I be worried??
Magnet Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Hello Kev, Pardon my ignorance, but are we talking petrol or diesel here? If diesel it is likely to be the pre heater which tends to come on in cold weather and remain on for a while, and does emit diesel smoke and smell! after the engine is switched off. Not a problem as I see it, just a characteristic. If it's petrol engined - worry! Hope this helps. Kind regards, Gareth. 1
Audi Owners Club. Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 I would totally agree with Magnet....usually an engine preheater but if you don't have that as a fitted option then I would be worried
KEVFRST Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 I didn't realise it was fitted even after 2 years of ownership. 3.0 diesel BTW. Can sleep easier.......had me worried for a bit. Thanks all.
Audi Owners Club. Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Probably because it has been minus 5 this year which is unusual so that was enough to activate it
