Cooling fan

Hi all 

 I have a 2010 s line tdi which I haven't had any issues and hope I don't run into many while I own her. Tonight a strange thing happened after a 40 odd mile run the cooling fan ran on for around five minutes once i parked up and there was a slight smell of like burnt oil around.. the temp gauge was good and I never noticed any other warnings. 

Im wondering if it has performed a regen? 

Any ideas

It does sound like that may have been the case....I would keep an eye on it in the future and if it doesn't occur regularly then it may have been a regen taken place.

also, I would have thought it may have chucked out a lot of soot at the same time
