Evening all,

Had the unhealthy pleasure of looking at servicing cost for my A6 as it's come round for it's "major" and S-Tronic service.  I'm also having the break fluid changed.  I got a quote from a local RAC approved garage which came in at £587.00 inc VAT and another quote from Audi main dealer Southend at £684.00.

As as a result and due to my situation I'm able to get another quote form another main dealer in Norwich,  much to my surprise Audi Norwich price matched against the Non-dealer garage! Woop woop....

Has anyone else found this to be the case and does anyone know what is significant with S-Tronic service? thats said would anyone have details as to what is done with the services in detail? Short of when I ask when it goes in?

Cheers

Hi Adie

That's a big price for service, have you tried looking for Audi Specialists in your area?

Also looking on the Audi Website this is all I could find which may be the cost added onto a normal service (See picture)

Just this is £225, so adding the £225 onto the original price might be the reason but the high cost.

Hope this helps and keep us updated :)

Regards

Bradley

Hello Adie,

Looking at this simplistically, the RAC approved garage, your Southend main dealer and the Nowich dealer are all within reasonable variance of each other, and I too have found that main dealers are prepared to match or near price match alternative quotes from recognised garages.

You raise a good point about why this service charge is higher than you would expect, but the answer probably lies in the question - what mileage has the car done? We know the car is now over 5 years old, and this, coupled with the mileage might dictate the policy change replacement of some components based on 5years or x miles. - e.g. cambelt (if it's a belt engine). I would have thought that the main dealer would have been able to advise you why the service cost for this service is higher than earlier services for example. That's really where the true explanation lies. Unfortunately, the days have gone when the dealers gave you a ticked- box service sheet everytime it was  serviced telling you exactly what had and hadn't been done, but asking that basic question of why it is so much, should provide the answer.

No service sheet anymore? Backward step it might be thought. How about no service book? Some manufacturers are no longer providing service books ( with the much cherished stamps!) with their new vehicles. " It's all recorded on the computer sir!".

If it were mine, I would be entrusting this service to the main dealer you are most confident with who will near match ( don't be too greedy!) the local garage price.

Not sure if this helps,

Kind regards,

Garetg.

Hello Gareth, Brad.

Thank you both for your thoughts, very indeed, I have no major gripe with the cost despite being able to go on short holiday for that money😬  My cars booked in with Audi Norwich this Monday! I'm having the recommended done as it's "recommended" and as such while we do have local garages and as Brad say specialists I feel happier having the S-Tronic box done by the absolute best who know what to do with it, I guess in life these are the things we pay for which give us satisfaction and peace of mind.

I think this gearbox is the same as you get in the S6 bolted to the V8 so while £225.00 seems high to replace some oil I believe I'm buying that knowledge of audi knowing their own kit.

Do we know anyone else with an S-Tronic box the same as mine?

Cheers

Hi Adie

Great to hear you've chosen an Audi dealer to deal with it , and yes very true it's a bit of peace of mind :)

Yes it is exspensive but sometimes you can't compromise!

I don't know ow anyone with S-Tronic, sorry :(
