Tim Roberts Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Hi, I'm new to the forum and hope some one can help. I have a 2009 A4 3.0 V6 TDI Quattro, I have owned the car for a year now and it has been great until before Christmas. I went to start it one morning, it started straight away then cut out and the glow plug light flashed (I did wait for them to go out before starting) it did it again then the engine management light came on. Then when I reved the engine just after it fired up it was fine and both lights went out about 10minutes later. My partner took it to be plugged in when I was at work and the code she was told was low pressure in the rail. It's been serviced everytime it's been needed by Audi. It only seems to happen when the fuel mileage is less then 60 ( around 1/4) of a tank, surely it shouldn't do this. Any help would be great! Thanks Tim
Brad-B5 Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Hi Tim Welcome to the forum :D Have you replaced the glow plug's? Regards Bradley
Tim Roberts Posted February 7, 2017 Author Posted February 7, 2017 Hi Bradley, Thanks! No, I haven't touched them. Apparently the flashing glow plug light is just a warning not that there's an issue with them as its to do with the low fuel rail pressure. Cheers Tim
Trevor Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Hi Tim.....welcome to the Forum One possibility in the cold weather is the glow plug(s) getting weak and also another possibility is the pump is struggling to pick up with low fuel level, so may be best to not let it drop so low (and on an incline, which may not help). Have known this on some cars that have a saddle tank (one that draws fuel from both sides of the tank) where the lift pump from the reserve side struggles to transfer fuel and therefore the pressure drops. Let us know what you find to be the fault. Cheers Trevor
