mrtonline Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Hello guys. Ive had my A3 for about 6 months now its 2.0 TDI Sport DSG Automatic. I have a intermittent knocking sound when sitting at idle. I took it to my local garage and the guy said straight away it was the dual mass filter which is not a cheap fix £450 part, £400 labour and would be best to change the clutch whilst doing the job at another £250 for the part. So i took it elsewhere for a 2nd opinion and was told it is the flexi plate and that my car does not have dual mass filter because it is an automatic and the clutch is part of the gearbox. Can anybody shed some light on this for me would be much appreciated.
rbdazza Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 I'm pretty sure the DSG has 2 clutches and will most certainly have a fly wheel of sorts. Whether it's the dual mass one or not I couldn't say. Mid be going for a 3rd opinion lol
mrtonline Posted February 19, 2017 Author Posted February 19, 2017 Ok thanks i guess it wont hurt for another opinion before i shell out a load of cash
Trevor Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Hi Tom I agree with Darren...take it for a third opinion. As far as I know, there is a dual mass flywheel there but the clutches are inside the box. Trying to diagnose the dual mass is difficult but usually if there is clunking on start up and shutting down of the engine then this is a good indicator. Also sometimes there is a slight delay when accelerating which can be associated with the flywheel being weak.. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
