Surfwill123 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 So I have an Audi A3 2.0 tdi s line 2006 which needs a new drive shaft and cv joints fitted. This looks within my capabilitys. Is is there any special tools I need to do this? Can someone list what I may need? Thanks
Audi Owners Club. Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 It should be a straight forward except you may need a balljoint separator (or large hammer) and a few prybars. Otherwise, just ordinary hand tools, trolley jack, axle stands, etc
Surfwill123 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 Okay thanks for the reply. Do you know what I need to undo the 6 bolts that attaches the cv joint to driveshaft? Want to make sure I have the right bit for this evening
Audi Owners Club. Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Yes, they will need to come out to remove the driveshaft in one piece...try not to pull the joint apart (bearings will go everywhere)
Surfwill123 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 I have just finished removing the old drive shaft and fitting the new one.. wasnt actually too bad - a little fiddly but okay. Took me 3 hours but a lot of that was hunting for correct tools!! pleased to say the shuddering has now gone! I'm so relieved! The inside cv joint was absolutely shagged! Thanks everyone for your help! 1
cliffcoggin Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I'm glad it worked out well. The only note of caution is that if one side was worn out, the other won't be far behind, but at least you now know how straightforward the job is.
