Hiya,

Firstly, apologies, I'm sure that this has been discussed in the past, I tried searching but didn't come up with any threads (I've been very active on VW and detailing forums before, I know how annoying it is when a noob just asks questions before searching).

I'm looking at getting myself into an older A4 Avant Quattro.

I've been advised against getting a 2.0 TFSI engine, been told that they turn into a world of pain, which was OK cos I was also looking at a 3.2 FSI.

But then I found out that the 3.2 has pretty much no service history, though was assured there's no timing chain rattle from the engine, it still make me suspicious.

I've read that the 2.0TFSI engine can burn through oil, is that a serious issue that I should avoid the engine, or are there other big issues when the engine gets a lot of miles on it - I'm thinking around the 100k mark?

Should I look at a diesel instead maybe?

I was going to go petrol incase they ramp up the tax on diesels.

Thanks in advance....

I think the 2.0TFSi issue is confined to earlier models so later engines should be okay.

If it was me and I wasn't worried about fuel bills I would go for the 3.2 and sort the timing chain before it became an issue....then the engine will go on forever.
