bonnet stuck s4 cab B6

Had my car in as it had bad oil intercooler seals and needed an MOT ...
Garage has done both but when i asked about taking out the lights to de fog them, pulled the bonnet release and no joy  
As i was pulling the lever he said he could hear something radiator side so thinks the cable has jumped out of its holder ...
we looked from the front and from underneath as it was still engine pan free and on pit and could not see anyway into the bonnet latch area.
Is there anyway to get this bonnet lose without smashing up the grill ?
any ideas welcome

Hi Karl

Had this problem a while ago on a Golf and had to smash the grill to sort it but luckily aftermarket grills are cheap for Golfs.
