JasonTT Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 hi people, new to the forum, hoping to find out what this !Removed! noise is. First of all this is not my engine but it's the same noise. Now some history... has the cam chain tensioner changed due to CEL on, that cured that, had timing belt area checked all ok, had it at a specialist and he is stumped, reckons it's coming from vac pump but changed that and it's still there. Many help would be seriously appreciated guys !
Audi Owners Club. Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I know the TFSI engine is noisy by its very nature (being high pressure injection) and can sound somewhat like a diesel engine. Other noises I could hear are the injectors....which do 'clack' rather loudly. Could possibly suggest replacing the oil with a better quality brand and also the grade to facilitate smoother running from cold.
JasonTT Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Thank you very much for you're reply Trevor. Very much appreciated. My car has been at an independent specialist having the cam tensioner changed. It makes this noise when warm not at cold start, it wasn't there before it went in and the oil was changed. I'm just worried that I've paid £800 to have it fixed only to inherit another problem. It's driving me crazy !
JasonTT Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Thank once again Brad, like I say it didn't go in to the garage with the rattle. I'm just worried can I drive it ?!?!?
Brad-B5 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Is it just the sound that is the issue? is there any other issues? like starting up, rough idle, more smoke, mpg ect? @Trevor could it be a faulty injector ? as you said they are loud anyway but could this be one that's gone bad? that's what pops into my mind. Regards Bradley
JasonTT Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 The car now it's had the cam chain tensioner drives like a dream, it is slightly rough only on the odd occasion at idle. Mpg I'm not sure because I haven't got it back yet. I've noticed no smoke, and the rattle is coming from cam BELT area but he assures me all is good with that. At cold start the engine is silent, I'd say brand new, but when it's warm it rattles. If the problem was serious would it not drive as well as it does. It's only done 74k but the Audi specialist even commented on how well it drives !
Brad-B5 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Great to hear that Jason! what fuel are you using? I would say try V+ I find it helps :) 1
JasonTT Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 I've had the car five years and always used the better fuel. Is the fact it's silent on cold start significant in any way ? Cheers brad
Brad-B5 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Awesome and no, just thought it could always help in anyway really :) glad it's all fixed now though :D 1
Audi Owners Club. Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I doubt if it is a faulty injector but if it is anything like a diesel injector with seals, then it maybe a case of an injector not being seated / sealed correctly (if removed) when refitted? 1
JasonTT Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 You're not kidding Brad ! Lol ive had no work on the injectors 😢 1
JasonTT Posted April 6, 2017 Author Posted April 6, 2017 Hi guys once again I'm back with this rather annoying noise, fine all that was advised. Cam tensioner and oils changed. Engine is silent at cold start, only rattles like a tractor when warm I've managed to upload a clip any help or suggestions greatly appreciated thanks IMG_8652.MOV
Brad-B5 Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Oh no! Have a look to see if your engine mounts are fine, do your pedals move or vibrate at all? is there any noticeable thing that the car does as well as this rattle when warm? Regards Bradley
