So last week i got the dreaded MIL, car still drove perfectly fine. Before i start a google session on them i thought i'd post them up on here to see if anyone has come across them before:

These all came under "Engine malfunction"

The fuel cap does not lock btw which i can live with , i'm not sure what short to ground means though, would that cause potential battery drain?

Hi Darren, the only thing that jumped out to me throughout the whole of the list was the battery/supply voltage.

If the battery is old and in need of replacement this can lead to a residual drain and I would probably start there....sounds just like Jaguars when the battery goes weak, comes up with all sorts of spurious faults.

Let us know what you find out once you've rectified whatever it is you find to be at fault.

Cheers,  Trevor

hmm, batteries aint cheap! but then considering its stop/start you could be on to something. i need to borrow a volt meter as i dont have on and see what the battery is looking like both off and under load.

i'll also get the hidden battery indicator in MMi later to see how it is looking in there.

Only thing I would suggest is to get a quality battery as opposed to a budget one as it will make a huge difference overall.

Off load, should be around 12.8 volts (resting) and under load around 14.8 volts and then see what it does with cranking over with the headlights on (how dim do they go and how quick do the volts drop)

Let us know how you get on with Darren

Will do. and yes a good battery is worth the extra dosh, looking at around £250 !!

usually yes, but one that is rated for stop/start costs a lot more, from what i can see

On audi's with stop start they are the Gel batterys or AGM batterys.

I have seen them for about £200 from euro parts for the one in my A4 and slightly cheaper for the wives A1.

I'm no expert but its sonething to do with them being high ampage, being able to charge quick and hold that charge in alot longer than a standard battery so not going flat with all the stop start useage.
