scal Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 Hi All, I've run a scan on my "new" Audi A3 and have recovered the following fault codes. I have the Engine Management light on on the dash so I know there is an issue with the engine faults, however I dont want to change evergything! Does anyone have any suggestions as to: 1 - how to work out what the fault codes are exactly (Ross-Tech site wasn't very helpful here and not all the codes give a description!) 2 - Apart from the engine faults, how important are the others? Thanks!! scal Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 I am new to using these diagnostic tools, so the output posted above is what it returned before clearing any fault codes. I cleared them all recently and have done a few hundred miles since. Focusing only on the engine faults (I'm not too worried about the rest... yet), today it returned 3 faults before clearing any fault codes and then only 1 fault after clearing the codes and re-running straight away. Before clearing DTCs:3 Faults Found:17811 - EGR System P1403 - 008 - Regulation Deviation - MIL ON18322 - Pressure Sensor for Brake Boost (G294) P1914 - 002 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent17480 - NOx Sensor (G295) Heater Control P1072 - 008 - Circuit Malfunction - IntermittentReadiness: 0000 0100Straight after clearing them and re-running:1 Fault Found:17811 - EGR System P1403 - 008 - Regulation DeviationReadiness: 1110 0101What I do not understand now is whether the only actual fault I have is the EGR? I assume from what I have read that I need to either replace the EGR valve, just clean it and replace it or get a removal kit. The question is whether the "intermittent" fault codes for brake boost and NOx are an actual issue or just unhelpful errors due to the EGR valve? Any help much appreciated, thanks!
niedzial1983 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Egr is a good start i think as it may cause other faults
Dan3222 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 I think NOx will be related to EGR function or lack of. You did right clearing that massive list of codes, I bet that they were caused by the ignition being on when many electrical plugs were disconnected at some stage. it will be worth removing and cleaning the EGR. Go from there.
scal Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 As a follow-up to this, the EGR was the problem. Some teeth of the cogs had sheared off (probably due to perished plastic - don't know why they build such an expensive item using parts which cannot individually be replaced... oh wait I know why!). It is possible to lift off and rotate the central cog, however this fix only lasted a few days before it sheared the teeth off the "quarter" cog underneath. I managed to purchase a brand new unit on eBay for £80 which is quite cheap considering what Audi will charge... Now I just have to fit it and hope for the best.
