QuattroRyan Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Hi all I have the 3.0 tdi quattro and want to change the Auto Trans Fluid, does anyone know what the spec of the oil is. I know you can get it direct from Audi but Im not keen on paying there prices. I can get Fuchs oil but they don't know the spec like a lot of other suppliers. Thanks
Magnet Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Hello Ryan, I'm sorry, but as with the oil suppliers (a lot) you have tried, I'm unable to point you to the correct specification for this critical application, but I am aware that it is not uncommon for manufacturers to tailor their oil requirements to their exact specification. This results in the oil being available in volume to the dealers, but not in smaller quantities off the shelf. Appreciating you may not want to pay the price that the dealers are asking, but getting it there removes any chance that you use the wrong specification with potential costly consequences. As I see it Ryan you will save considerably by doing this yourself rather than paying the main dealer to do it for you, so why not enjoy that saving in labour costs and invest some of it in buying the correct oil from them? Sounds a simple and sure way forward to me. Kind regards, Gareth.
niedzial1983 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Your gearbox is tiptronic ? ( 6 speed ) If so you have zf6hp19a . There are 2 types of oil depending of gearbox software , zf lifeguard 6 and zf lifeguard 8 If you go to audi they will tell you the tranny is " sealed for life " and they wont change oil but they will sell you correct oil+filter by vin number. Get zf oem oil Zf who made these gearboxes recomend oil change every 90k. Also there is a procedure to change oil in them so you need to find a good garage. Its good to do a flush firts so any metal shavings will be removed as they will kill your tranny Hope this helps as i spend a year looking in to this :) .
QuattroRyan Posted October 29, 2017 Author Posted October 29, 2017 Thanks guys. Im tempted to do the job myself but just havent really got the time at the moment so I reakon I will be taking it my local guy who specialises in clutches etc. He quoted me £300 with filter and oil included so I thought that isnt too bad but was hoping to save a few pennies by getting the oil myself. I dont reakon it will be long before someone starts producing the oil to the right spec and selling it cheaper. And yes its the 6 spd Tiptronic .
niedzial1983 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 They do already with mix results :) Let us know how much was it at the end and if it made a diffrence
Magnet Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Hello Ryan, Apologies in advance, but I have a very pessimistic feeling about this and you entrusting this to "your local guy who specialises in clutches!" I worry about the potential outcome and the risk you are exposing yourself to in the quest to save a few pennies. If it took Piotr a year to find out which was the correct oil, can you really guarantee ( should be in capital spending) your local guy is going to invest a significant amount of his time in making sure he does indeed get the right oil and flush the system as Piotr suggests? Would I take that risk? Guess the answer. If it were mine, it would be spending half a day with a trusted independent or a gearbox specialist who know their way around these things. I can only wish you good luck. Kind regards, Gareth.

QuattroRyan Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 Well bit of an update, got the Trans oil, filter changed and has made a big difference, much smoother through the gears and a lot less slip etc especially when cold. BUT when its warm Im still getting a lot of judder when I put it in drive or reverse but car still runs sweet and pulls great in all gears. I have had the car mapped but the guy says shouldn't have affected the auto box in any way. Soo either my box is a bit goosed or im missing something here. any ideas guys?

Both of those things sound expensive lol. Also since I plugged my cd multichanger back in the car seems to have a multitude of issues, door unlock button not working inside car, interior light staying on, radio not going on or off with ignition, small screen inbetween speedo not working, thought Audis where reliable never had soo much trouble with a car in all my life.

Can you explain more about cd changer ? Was it the same from your car ? A replacment ? . There is componet protrction on cd changer that basicly triggers saftery mode hence all issues. Only audi can remove CP
QuattroRyan Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 Its the standard Audi multichanger, previouse owner left it in there as they where using one of those plug in modules for Iphone mp3 but doesnt work with my phone so I just plugged cd changer back in then all hell broke loose lol taken it back out now but still got a lot of problems now.
niedzial1983 Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Looks this way You need to plug backcd changer and do a vcds scan for faults . Any garage should be able to preform a scan
QuattroRyan Posted November 25, 2017 Author Posted November 25, 2017 Ah right I know a guy who will scan it for me no probs. Just hope this auto box problem isnt too expensive
Ethan_123 Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 See whether you need it or not. ->Android car radio & GPS navigation & camera universal system
QuattroRyan Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 Hi guys just an update on my auto box, went to see a specialist in preston last week and he says box is fine, but the egr is goosed which apparently is causing my juddering issues etc so Im either going to just clean it and see if it works again or blank it off and delete from ecu but not sure weather to bother deleting or not any ideas?
