SteveFIFE Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Hi all. I have a A4 TDI QUATTRO 170 56 plate. Recently the car was juddering under increased throttle, then the coil/glow plug warning would flash under increased throttle. Now it's a glorified ornament sitting in my driveway as it starts and idles. But if I apply any throttle it only increases slightly to about 1100 rpm and doesn't go any higher unless I hold the throttle down for a few seconds then it revs up. There is no black, blue or white smoke at all and the only noise I've noticed there is a slight hiss at the back of the engine bay to the left of the battery after switching the car off for around 15 seconds. I replaced the MAF thinking it was that but it's made no difference. The EML is illuminated constantly and the coil/glow plug light is flashing. I had a new oil pump and reconditioned turbo put in 2 years ago and it's been fine since. I've had it remapped and the egr removed and blocked and deleted of the ecu around 4 years ago. The error codes it has thrown up are 00258, 05446,08225. Any help would be greatly appreciated unless you say I need a new turbo in which case I will have a tantrum. 😂😂 Thanks in advance. Steve
SteveFIFE Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 Got a more advanced scan done. P0102, p0321, and p0546. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

SteveFIFE Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 Thanks Paul, I have got all of the code meanings but none of them combined point to the symptoms of what's happening. Throttle position sensor, MAF and 02 sensor 1 on the downpipe. I'm possibly thinking a blocked cat but before I shell out money I was hoping someone had any experience with the symptoms. I have replaced the MAF but I don't want to clear the codes yet. 11 minutes ago, Paul A6 said: 00258 http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00258 sorry could not find info on the other 2 codes
WPAWS Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 hopefully someone with tech knowledge will shed some light i`m not very tech when it comes to engines sorry
SteveFIFE Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 Well I changed the MAF again and it's only got one error code, which is bank 1 sensor 1 oxygen sensor. So after a four hour trickle charge I got the car started after about ten minutes of cranking, the car starting but cutting out. Eventually it stayed on so I was able to crawl it round to the garage. The garage have said they aren't touching it as it's had the egr removed. So now my car is stuck around at the garage with no access to a trickle charge and no way of getting fixed. After a long time of searching I think I have found someone with the same symptoms. I am now getting desperate in the run up to Christmas. The similar symptoms are from a VW Audi forum about the reluctor wheel whatever that is. I scoped it again today with my new kit and after spending as much time figuring out the PC GUI got it set up and the wave form was clearly not right despite what the previous tech confirmed but mistakes happen so i am not gunning him. On 2nd visual inspection coming in at an angle via borascope i can now see 2-3 teeth are bent inward and as voltage increases at higer rpm so engine cuts as disparity amplified. Previously i borascoped perpendicular and thus could not see they were slightly bent. Sump removed and bent 3 teeth back - the blurred photo shows before - you can make out 3 very slighly bent inward upto 1mm or there abouts. One of the rivets holding wheel to back of crank had sheared (see other pics). Plan to put a very hot spot weld in to stop other end ever falling out, replace sump and check. Failing that it all starts getting rather more expensive.
SteveFIFE Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 Here is a video of how the car runs after managing to get It idling. VID_20171129_174545498.mp4
