doktordru Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Afternoon - new around here and seeking help ref what my main dealer has told me ref my 2013 A3 sportback (2013 TFSI - petrol DSG). 37k miles and fully serviced. Car was driving A - OK last week when out of the blue - on comes the engine warning light (yellow). Luckily I was due to drop it in at the dealers the next day for a free winter check, so asked them to look at what's behind the warning light. 1. Initially told thee was/is a sensor failure (emissions) and that the change would be circa £700 parts and labour 2. I was given a quote and immediately queried the labour cost/extent here (3 hours) rather than looking at the line by line parts involved (part cost £100) . 3. Did not have time to continue the debate so grabbed the quote and left being already late. On driving off flagged that the warning light had now gone out. Expl 'yes that is normal - it will come on again though' I had managed to get the labour charge reduced to £300 plus parts plus vat etc. so Total bill £480 - better than £700 but not impressed. 4. Next day sure enough the same engine warning light (yellow) did come on. But then later in the day had gone off again and has remained off all of this week - short journeys 10 - 15 min commute. So as I write - no lights and all OK with the car. 5. Spoke to the dealership on Monday of this week to a) query cost and b) diagnosis and was told it was not a faulty sensor but a coolant leak. The quote bears this out - parts (3 gasket £37 plus bits seals screws etc and £12 coolant = £100 tops and the £300 labour. I explained this was new news and not what I was initially told, added to the fact the car right now was not showing any warning lights and at the time of writing is still not. I'm struggling to get a proper response from the dealership and am not convinced the original diagnosis was right, added to the fact I cannot get an answer ref why the lights should have gone out and stayed out having previously been on. Apologies for the long ramble - Any thoughts welcomed - do not want to part with £500 unless I absolutely must. Andrew
WPAWS Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Can you find a local garage that can hook up vcds and see what that throws back?

Hi Paul, long story/short after a conversation with the main dealer they offered to waive the labour if I paid for the parts on what was confirmed to me as a coolant leak/gasket failure. So £780 became £120 - and I'm v happy. Andrew
Steve Q Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Hi Andrew glad you got this sorted and good on you for questioning the labour price! All sorted and happy motoring :) Cheers Steve
