My 2008 A4 has started having issues with the central locking. Passenger side front and rear doors never unlock with fob and from time to time the drivers door does the same.

The only one that always unlocks is the driver side rear door.

I've had it connected to a lap top (not with Audi) and it shows no faults.

Any help welcome as its doing my head in and the other half has to stand in rain till i open her door from the inside and she is right on my case.......HELP

So you're wife can't get in the car? Why are you complaining? I'm here all week!

I'm no expert by any means, but I don't think having it checked via laptop will tell you if the fob is faulty/on its way out. It may need new batteries. The laptop electrical check should pick up any problems within the car system itself, so it's positive that nothing was picked up there. Alternatively, if the fob can be opened, the fact that it works intermittently may suggest it just needs a clean.

So yeah, those would be my two suggestions, clean the fob if possible or replace the batteries. Pretty basic I know, but hopefully it's nothing too complicated anyway, and the fact no problem was picked up by an electrical check suggests it probably isn't something within the car anyway.

Hi James welcome to the forum :)

You'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

My first port of call would be to check the key fob batteries. If you have checked that then I'm wondering if your car battery is on its way out? Once batteries start to fail they cause unusual electrical issues. Getting the battery checked would be my next suggestion. The usual life expectancy of a battery is approx 7 years, but they can last up to 10.

The other 2 things I can think of is either the central locking module is on its way out or the drivers door locking mechanism is also failing. The drivers door mechanism controls the rest of the central locking. However I believe these 2 faults would show up on a diagnostic check.

Sorry I can't help more.

Cheers

Hi All,

You'd of thought her not getting in would be good but sooner or later I listen to the 'my hair got wet' 'my shoes are wet' and some other stuff that seems to of fallen out my head.

Besides this, me loading the car and when the drivers door does it, all seriously annoying and I'm guessing sooner or later none of the doors will open. Then i'm stuck in the rain with no way into my car.

Fob is fine and batteries etc all checked and replaced. I'm assuming its not the coding of the fob or similar as the range is still awesome on it and the boot always pops fine. Therefore I'm thinking its something in the car. Car battery in all honesty hasn't been checked but would I not be spotting some other issues somewhere???

Regarding the central locking module & drivers door locking mechanism, is there a way I can see if these are the cause and maybe get this sorted myself? (heads up, I know nothing about cars but am practical, so as long as special tools are not required and clear instructions then i'm confident)

Also, what is ccm and how do I check that?

Best thing is get a diagnostic check done to establish which part it is. This will cost around £60. If it's the drivers door locking mechanism then I think you'll be looking around £120. I say this, as I paid that much to get a similar issue with my central locking fixed which was due to the drivers door lock going faulty. This job.was done by an auto electrician.

I'm unsure how much it would cost to replace the central locking module though, sorry.

Cheers

Thanks Steve.

Would this of not been something that showed up when i had this connected up previously?

Thanks for the prices too, big help

I'm unsure why it's not shown up previously, in wonder if it's because.its intermittent. The intermittent faults are the worst to cure!

You're welcome, glad I could.help :)

Ok. I'll maybe try getting it hooked up again perhaps. See if i can get it to register a fault.

Has anyone tried these new home diagnostics that connect to your phone? Are they any good?

On the forum page where you can see all the posts, click "sort by" and change it to "recently updated". I suspect this may be the problem.

^ that should give you a link to it
