I like the Shell V+. I do feel that it is doing my engine good, feels more responsive, better mpg and makes the diesel lump sound better/quieter. When I had a remap done it had V+ in so will not use anything else if I can help it. Yes, supermarket fuels are cheaper but at what cost at the end of the day. Bit of a false economy in my opinion.2 points

Hello Terrence, I guess Bradley has given you a fair valuation, and it really sounds the sort of car that has a good provenance. This is probably going to sound rather pessimistic, but there are valuations and valuations, and the "value" of something must be judged by the market it is going into as much as the car itself, and it must be appreciated that the car is now c9 to 10 years old. If you are thinking of selling privately then it will be appreciated that someone must have access to around £11,000 without depending on being able to part exchange a vehicle with you, and/or you being able to offer finance and quarantees. As Arthur would have said - 11 Gs in folding! Tall order? If you are to put this in part exchange, then it is too old to be resold by a large dealership, and would be trade off into the low end of the secondhand car market. Profits would of course need to be made and margins alowed for any unexpected repair work. In a nutshell Terrence, I'm sure you will appreciate that valuations will vary ( considerably?) between forecourt retail, private retail, part exchange and say We Buy Any Car! Perhaps it would be useful to know how you wish to sell it. Good luck with finding it a new home. Kind regards, Gareth.2 points

Hi cmaxwell1984 I did the same thing and put petrol. In my old mk5 golf. Didn't realise until the car just juddering. Pulled over called aa and got home drain the fuel and filled with diesel with a cleaner. But from then on we just had problems. In the end our insurance covered incorrect fuel and they ended up rebuilding the whole engine at a cost to the. Of over £2700 with all diagnostics etc. The car was just worth that. After that it seemed fine but the wife wouldn't drive anymore. Worth a call to your insurance company before the high cost of a diesel specialist comes! Good luck1 point

Hello Victoria. Sorry to hear you have problems with the electric handbrake on the car. If the car was older or not new to you, I would have asked if the car was automatic or manual, since if auto., then you might have found that owners generally don't use them - in favour of simply leaving it in Park. Consequence is that the electric motor/ linkages get siezed/stiff due to lack of use. In your case, it sounds as if you have used it regularly since the car was new, so no excuse there. There is a possibility that salt has affected it, but that would be a guess. It seems the car is still well within warrantee, and if it were mine, I would be booking it to get it sorted as quickly as possible before it decides to lock on rather than not to lock on. Kind regards, Gareth.1 point

Does look good. I remember when I used the 2 stage application of rainX about 18 years back with scepticism.. I was driving down the A34 in torrential rain. All the cars around me had their wipers on max speed and I never had mine on at all and was clear as anything. Not sure how long it lasted though. Might give this stuff a try! Looks as if it helps de-ice as well. Handy for this time of year.1 point

Morning all, I've read this with a degree of interest as I too can relate to the issue of MPG on the A6 however I can throw a little light on the subject, not much but a little. It's very very common for manufacturers to manipulate their mpg figures so to return the best taxation brackets for the class of vehicle along with and as you know this bit.... to bolster their averages when officially releasing vehicle performance figures, I've witnessed this first hand with some of the manufacturers I have worked for, it certainly happens and as much of a let down as it can be it's the reality of using the car and working it all out that ultimately gets it right, good query by Wilson though as I think most of us blokes tend to wander this when considering and buying cars (heaven forbid had I wandered a question like this to my wife!) As Gareth mentioned checking the tyres, fuel, mechanical components that are effecting this area is key, It's also quite easy to influence the mpg when it comes to tyre tempurature. Having seen a number of wheels and tyres being put in the freezers prior to testing tells me that given the recent weather and the chill we have had this could be effecting some of your results, I'm no expert so really know if they increased or decreased the fuel consumption, I just recall seeing loads going via the freezers and heater units we had. incidentally I have a 3.0 Quattro and I cover at times 1000miles per week and have seen the following results... Drive like miss daisy... >50mpg. Drive like normal... > 45 ish. Drive it like I just stole it..... >29-30mpg but great fun!!! I'm surprised the 2.0 ultra is retuning these type of figures though so getting it check like Trevor says maybe worth considering... bang in that warranty Wilson! Wish I had it on mine still. Enjoy the remainder of your weekend A6 fans!🙄1 point

Hi s4andy, had a 4.2 since may, !Removed! love it!! You get all the power but a good ride, (not a bone shaker rs) diesel consumption is a minus though especially towing a trailer. 15mpg 😂😂😋. I've had a couple of suspension glitches but that's it since having it. Had a rsq3 and rsq5 as courtesy cars both times it went in but still looked forward to getting my Q7 back after a couple of days!! Hope this helps. regards Henry1 point

wouldn't imagine the RRs to be sluggish at all, even they they are heavy cars, but glad you're enjoying your SQ7 and hope you'll stay with the Audi range in the future also is your wife enjoying the Q3? You have all the information on this forum and a lot of very knowledgeable people to help with (hopefully none) issues :)1 point

Hello Adie, Looking at this simplistically, the RAC approved garage, your Southend main dealer and the Nowich dealer are all within reasonable variance of each other, and I too have found that main dealers are prepared to match or near price match alternative quotes from recognised garages. You raise a good point about why this service charge is higher than you would expect, but the answer probably lies in the question - what mileage has the car done? We know the car is now over 5 years old, and this, coupled with the mileage might dictate the policy change replacement of some components based on 5years or x miles. - e.g. cambelt (if it's a belt engine). I would have thought that the main dealer would have been able to advise you why the service cost for this service is higher than earlier services for example. That's really where the true explanation lies. Unfortunately, the days have gone when the dealers gave you a ticked- box service sheet everytime it was serviced telling you exactly what had and hadn't been done, but asking that basic question of why it is so much, should provide the answer. No service sheet anymore? Backward step it might be thought. How about no service book? Some manufacturers are no longer providing service books ( with the much cherished stamps!) with their new vehicles. " It's all recorded on the computer sir!". If it were mine, I would be entrusting this service to the main dealer you are most confident with who will near match ( don't be too greedy!) the local garage price. Not sure if this helps, Kind regards, Garetg.1 point

Hi Trevor and Bradley Thanks for your replies. The Range Rover Sport is a nice car with many nice features. In fact, I've had many RR Sports over the years and have enjoyed every one. My last one, however, seemed sluggish to pull away and my partner felt it rolled in corners too much, so whilst buying her a Q3 I decided the SQ7 looked awesome and tested a standard Q7. I really enjoyed it. The response was quick and the tech on board is awesome. It felt more like a car than the Land Rover so I thought I'd give it a go. So far I'm not disappointed with my new SQ7. The 0-60 at less than 5 seconds gives me all the fun I need in comfort with virtually no roll in corners. Perfect! I'm looking forward to hearing more about the Audi range which seems to have something to suit everyone and especially from other drivers of SQ7s. All the best Nick1 point

Don't take my word for it that your new lights will pass MOT. That is just theoretical knowledge, never tested by me (Though car has gone through two German TÜV tests without issue.) Wouter at Retrofit should be able to give you a definitive answer before you go to the trouble of fitting them. I don't think he'd ship to the UK (or legally be able to without labelling them as off-road only) if they wouldn't, but best to be sure. It's funny that over on camper van and caravan forums, where you regularly see people discussing what to do about headlamps with vehicles they regularly take to/from the continent, I've never seen the suggest to fit US style projectors/reflectors. As a solution to the problem, it's a pretty neat one. Note that MOT testing procedure on headlights recently changed https://mattersoftesting.blog.gov.uk/the-mot-headlamp-aim-test-is-changing/1 point

Right now, Lyon. I'm a Brit by origin, but usually live in Budapest, at the moment in Lyon for a year. The A4 was bought in Berlin 4 years ago, where I think it had spent most of its life in quiet residence. Since then, I've taken it to a total of I think 20 countries, from Greece and Albania (fun roads) and Romania, to Belgium and England at the other end. Some of it towing a trailer. Trips planned this year to Scotland, and Romania again. Possibly Greece again, too. Never caused an accident (touch wood), but I've been hit by other cars and motorcycles several times (and a truck) in Greece, Hungary, and France, and attempts to break in twice (car fended the vandals off both times with its strengthened glass; they were unable to gain entry despite very forceful attempts). France is the worst, to be honest. Both for the driving and the two attempted break-ins in the first two months, which never happened during three years in Greece, Romania, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia! Possible trips for the future: Turkey, Ukraine, Russia!1 point

Here we go then Stevie. A quick Google shows 0420 is something like catalytic converter low efficiency (or something along that line), which is why the garage convinced you to pour your hard earned into Cataclean or whatever which would have been a miracle cure, since they were not looking at the cause of the cat.being below par - to my guess it is simply the fact that you are pushing high quantities of water vapour ( white smoke) down it at a rate of knots. "They don't like it up 'em" as Jonesy would have said. I think you can forget about the code, and concentrate on why you have the white smoke. To spell it out as simply as I can, it's the white smoke which is causing the problem and not code 0420 (which is an affect of the white smoke). It's over to you Stevie to give us the full history on this issue. Just read the replies and give us all the answers asked for and I'm sure help will be at hand. I should have put the full of full history in capitals, and the all of ... all the answers.. but I'm sure you will come up with the information for us. Kind regards, Gareth.1 point
