Hi all, Just joined up as I took delivery of my brand new A6 Avant 2.0 TDI Ultra S-Line S-Tronic on 8th June. Have immediately taken it on a trip to Brittany in France to test it out, and am enjoying it. I have had a 2010 VW Phaeton for the past 5 years, but this is now getting a bit old at 130,000 miles, and starting to cost a bit both to run and repair so I felt it was time to move on. It's true that I'm missing some creature comforts from the Phaeton (air suspension, better stereo, reversing camera, and the space inside etc) but I'll get used to that. The Audi has technology in advance of the Phaeton in so many other respects, and I look forward to getting something better than the 25mpg I've been used to. Previous to the Phaeton I had. Ford Mondeo 2.5T Titanium X, but the less said about that the better. Will never have another Ford is all I will say. Prior to that I had a VW Passat W8 4.0 4WD, which was a lot of fun....hence my user name - my personal registration which has stayed with me ever since. Fun yes, but at 20mpg average over the 6 years I owned it, certainly not economical. I'm looking forward to learning all about my new A6 and getting the best from it over the next 4 years or so. It seems to be a very well made and solid car, so I believe I've made the right choice to move on from the Phaeton now. All the best, Chris1 point

Hello Anvi, Mark has also been there, tried it, by the look of it, and it would seem we are both on the same wave length. Great that you have two keys, but I'm not sure from what you say, whether both keys behave the same. There has been a fair amount of experience to show that DIY type attempts to reprogramme don't work for all ( to be kind) and whatever we think, the solution lies with those who have the necessary equipment to re programme them. If it has to be fixed then it's getting the wallet out time it seems. I did advocate finding an independent since they are very often more accessible to be able to talk with, rather than just being able to talk with the front desk at main dealers. OK, take your point about Audi dealer/s being a rip off, but you have to consider they invest vast amounts of money to set up and maintain their businesses, and it just ain't cheap to do that. Shopping around main dealers and independents, and doing the homework is generally low cost/free so that would be the best advice I could offer, unless anyone comes up with a 'for free' solution for you. Good luck in getting it sorted. Kind regards, Gareth,1 point

Hi Paul, Some of this could depend on the version of MMI in your Audi - Having some bluetooth issues with my A7 2012 and about to attempt an upgrade to the MMI myself (once I have plucked up the courage!!) You should be able to pair more than one phone and select which is default and change them in the MMI under Bluetooth > Bonded Devices. Some good tips had help topics out on the interweb - one good site - http://mr-fix.info/audi/ and some useful youtubers out there too. Cheers Mark1 point

Exactly Trevor! That thought crossed my mind too! Why didn't the watchers get it towed by the coast card?! Shame and sad end to an a6 to be honest! It is crazy/funny where people will leave their cars lol1 point

Hello Avni, My experience with these remotes is that 'left unattended" for some time, can render them inoperable except as a key, and you will experience just what you are experiencing irrespective of fitting a new battery. There are numerous documented accounts on how to DIY re programme the remotes. I've tried them all, and some I've thought of! - with my original spare remote. No luck. I think you will find this needs to be plugged in and re synchronised. An independent might be able to assist. Can we take it you only have one remote rather than having a spare as well? Just asking since if you have two, then you may be able to get both done at the same time, for little more than you will pay for one. My recommendation is not to use £ shop batteries in the remotes. You could be lucky and they last, but just not worth the risk. Kind regards, Gareth.1 point

Thanks for your replies Trevor & Steve. After 1000 miles I'm enjoying my new Audi and discovering new things about it on a regular basis. I now have my Phaeton back from the main dealer after some warranty issues were sorted, and it's being prepared for sale - let me know if anyone's interested :-) Will be sad to see her go, but needs must.... (By the way that's not my house it's parked in front of :-) )1 point

Welcome to the forum Avni :) youll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :) the q7 is a lovely car btw! In my experience it's often the key battery which is at fault which causes intermittent function of the door locks and keyless ignition. When the key battery goes flat it prevents the systems from working properly. The q7 should tell you when the battery in the key needs changing but if it doesn't this Is the first thing I'd change. I believe it's the key as clearly the car is starting ok when the key is put in the ignition and the door locking system is working. The key should not need reprogramming after the key battery is replaced. Hope iv helped cheers steve :)1 point

Well done you. Just proves it only takes 1 in 60odd million to want to buy a car we want to sell. Just goes to show then. Thanks for letting the forum know and good luck with your next purchase. Kind regards, Gareth.1 point
