Well the day of the meeting has arrived. With a full contingent of family loaded, I left home about 9.20 am to meet at solstice park outside McD’s at 10 am. After getting past the traffic at Thruxton (British superbikes) on the A303 I managed to get to meet fellow member Paul at 10.05. With a quick Hello and handshake we made our way to Old Sarum Airfield, about 8 miles further south and on the outskirts of Salisbury. We managed to park together outside the Boscombe down aviation collection. On our arrival we also found out there was a model show on (airfix not catwalk!!). The Boscombe Collections aim is to bring the history to life by restorations, replicas and allowing people to experience sitting in their powered cockpits. We managed to get into a few cockpits so myself and Jacob, Pauls son, became experienced “hanger pilots” in fast jets and helicopters. We spent a good hour in the museum and afterwards had a look at the aircraft that were parked up outside. A good first meeting and it was good to meet Paul. I would like to organise another get together somewhere around the M4 Corridor in October and would be open to suggestions.1 point

Thanks for the feedback, Glad you and Jacob enjoyed the event Steve. I will think about where to have the next get together, perhaps a Saturday? I will post some ideas later.1 point

I think first point would be a vcds scan and check for faults. Also with vcds they can check pressures/injectors etc1 point

most things will become collectable over a long enough time and as they start to disappear because no-one thought they would be valuable...I'm still amazed at all of the seventies kitchens and crockery that comes up for big money, we used to just chuck everything away and now it's worth a fortune1 point

Two things to ask them to look for here (from my own limited experience on an issue like this) is play between gear box stub shaft to drive shaft, I suggest this issue because you hear it both going forwards and in reverse. I have heard of the wrong shaft being fitted and the splines being the incorrect fit, hence play and then a knock. The other is strut top mount on either side on front. You can feel this if someone steers from full lock to lock if holding the front spring, there will be a small judder at full lock. maybe one other issue could be a loose engine or gear box mount perhaps?1 point

Welcome to the forum Clive :) youll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :) lovely looking a3 by the way, oh and the S Line spec is nice! Far better over the se spec ;) in terms of the wing mirrors I believe they don't have the auto retract function as standard. I believe it's an optional extra. On a more positive note i also believe cruise control can be retro fitted to your a3 :) hope iv helped :) cheers steve1 point

Hey Paul I drove an electric Passat when I worked at Volkswagen and it was amazing! The spec was great and it was very quiet. however I strongly disagree with the electric car as the power to run them comes from coal fired power stations and I don't believe that that is the future for motoring. I feel if you buy an electric car then your buying a Betamax tape player. I feel the future is hydrogen cars to be honest. With electric cars no one has told us what happens with all the old batteries and the fact the batteries last a minimum of 5 years and a max of 10 years. Which basically means your 5 year old car could be scrap after 5 years as the batteries will be so expensive to replace! Also how will a Toyota Prius improve the planet when the raw materials are shipped from all over the world. And panama programmed proved that modern ships pump out as many diesel particulates as all the traffic at rush hour around Piccadilly Circus (panorama approx 4th July 2017). I would argue Therefore a 1950s American car living in Arizona or Nevada has caused less pollution in its life than a Prius. Plus the fact a Prius petrol engine isn't that economical. I can confirm this from driving them when working at a car supermarket and comparing them to Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra etc. Also how is the national grid going to cope? They always bang on about how it's stretched as it is?! Il stop with my rant now. But I admit that I'm probably a dinosaur in terms of what I like and I'm not moving with the times. Cheers steve1 point
