  1. Indeed. I've seen people saying a new instrument cluster will be well into 4 figures if bought from Audi. My car is 10 years old so spending that much on a display seems a tad excessive to me! A couple of hundred sounds a fair price to me. I hate that the cluster has to be "coded" to work with the car. It is just a display. I work as a software engineer and have worked on complex CAN bus systems for marine electronics so I know there is no specific need for it to be this way, just a company grabbing money from their existing customer base.

  3. Hi, no they will only make a noise when they have spat out all the oil and shredded the bonded rubber mount, my only clue was the rocking of the engine when revved and as mine is manual the worn gearbox mounting made it hard to engage first and second the other sign was the gearstick was moving excessively when accelerating or decelerating so I just changed all three as they wear as a set fortunately the gearbox mount is solid rubber and not that hard to change but the engine mounts are, one had started to lose oil and both sides the rubber was creased and beginning to split. 4. Hi Steve is right I have had to change my engine/ gearbox mounts they normally start going sideways at about 80k or five years, they are what is known as Hydro mounts I don't know why because they are full of oil not water and electronically controlled. Steve.

  5. As you say could be an engine or gearbox mount. Had something similar on my wife's jag last month. It needed two engine mounts. As in your case you could see the engine move.

  7. Thought I’d let you know - looked on internet and found that some people flush them through - took to my local garage and he gave it a go to no avail - but it was indeed the heater matrix that needed replacing and now the heater works like a dream - apparently it’s very common??!! But it’s not a recall
