  1. Understand, like all things you get what you pay and I'm more than prepared to pay if its needed but have looked at quite a few from a few hundred to a pretty reasonable 50 quid (obvs if it works) but for the average Joe who wants to read the odd error code and change rear brake pads once or twice thinking could be a bit of a waste to pay more than that's needed.... Just wondered if anyone had bought one of the cheaper ones and used with success 🤞 hopefully 😉

  2. Hi Roy the updates are for newer vehicles there are no more updates for your model therefore if you didn't update it you can still use it, just like manufacturer updates for the cars cease after six years also if you go to windows seven on an old laptop solely for your diagnostics that stops all the crashing, if you have other things on your existing laptop like your emails google etc that affects the diagnostic program. 3. I thought the same as you until last weekend. I was chatting with my son, who is in the motor trade, and I said " I don't know why my Audi went into limp mode when I was driving, after all, glow plugs only work on start up" He told me that these days glow plugs come on any time the engine needs them.

  4. Hi OBD Eleven is about the best tool I have found that is not spiteful on price, retracting your callipers with a 12v battery is not good advice as its possible to spike the control unit and if you do the process with a scan tool make sure you have a battery charger/spare charged battery hooked up as well to counter any voltage fluctuations from your battery. 5. Thank you Roy. Evidently I am out of touch with modern developments, though modern may not be the best term to use considering the article was written ten years ago in USA, a country whose diesel development tended to be behind Europe. I have always avoided getting too involved in discussion of anything electronic because of my ignorance of the matter. I guess now it is time to realise my knowledge of modern engines is equally lacking.

  7. Many thanks Steve, It really is ‘good’ isn’t it. Timing chains:- a family member has a JLR Ingenium diesel and has just paid out in excess of £2K to have the 2019 uprated chain fitted to the 2016 49K mile vehicle. It was starting to rattle on start up, despite annual oil changes rather than ‘Longlife servicing. All you can say is ‘cheaper than a new engine if the chain lets loose! Steve Q. - do I recall your good lady has a Jaguar XE. Diesel and pre 2019? Let’s hope not, but if so, I can give you the full SP if you want. Steve Q - Good to hear your experience of Rates Ford. This certainly echos my experience with buying parts from them for Ford owning family members - always a great mail order discounted service via. EBay purchases. Am I right in thinking Rates places the orders on the Ford warehouse, and the parts are dispatched from there? Audi parts at discount. I now have two sources ( which I’ve mentioned on here a few times). So do I need TPS (if they would deal with me)? No, I don’t. I have also fostered good relations with a JLR dealer, who again gives a nice little discount and normally delivers free of charge, the following day. The service is both efficient and very friendly. Apologies for rambling on, but I’ve also used Car Parts in Motion for ‘quality’ aftermarket parts at best prices. I think you’ve mentioned them before Steve Y, and I think you’ve also benefited from their good services. Perhaps some of this may be of benefit to others. I don’t have any connection with any of the companies mentioned - apart from experiencing good service from them. Kind regards, Gareth.
