  1. Just wanted to do a quick update on everything thats going on. I took the car back to the dealer a few weeks ago and after a bit of testing they have confirmed that it was infact the piston rings that have failed. They are getting in a VW specialist to do a full engine rebuild for me completely free of charge and have just given me a courtesy car in the mean time. I want to thank everyone for all your help and advise. It is much appreciated and has really helped

  2. It is more likely that the damaged heatshield has no bearing to the failed sensor than the original question you asked. if it was me I would be wanting to get them to give me more details about the relationship of the sensor location and the damage they have shown you. it may be the actual reason, but don’t take it at face value right now.

  3. It sounds like the dealer is playing for time. Reject it before the warranty expires.

  4. Whatever the precise cause Joshua, there is no cheap or quick fix for that sort of problem. Take it back for a refund before it is too late, and don't be deterred by excuses, delaying tactics, or prevarication from the seller.

  5. Hello Joshua, I think you will find that there won’t be any cure for this, with your current engine. The warranty company may dictate an ‘official assessment’ of the oil consumption via a main dealer - and this will cost. Make sure you don’t end up with the tab! This requirement will of course erode into your warranty period, and you end up in running out of time. I’m not sure if the seller’s responsibility is for 30 days only, or if it is the 3 months you talk about, so you will need to take legal advice on this - CAB should help. It’s essential that all your dealing - past and going forward - are recorded in writing ( e-Mail should do) with the seller. In my opinion, you should seriously consider rejecting the vehicle and getting your money back, since I would not see a way forward where a quick and convenient resolution would be practical. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on Joshua. Kind regards, Gareth.
