  1. Hi if you don't recode a battery the BEM module will carry on charging the new battery at the same rate as the knackered battery effectively cooking it internaly. Steve.

  2. Hi it will be the modified pistons and rings and associated gaskets and seals, they know its a problem and after the good old boys in the U.S. cained them they decided it was easier to cave in and produce a retro fit piston and ring assembly. Steve.

  3. Hi all, I'm new to this forum and Audi ownership so hello.. Assuming all Audis are much of a muchness electrics wise; I am at this same stage I think with my A7. I replaced the original Varta Battery with an identical spec Bosch (which I believe is even made in the same factory) I bought battery from eurocar parts after error messages regarding failed stopstart and Adaptive cruise not working this was initially intermittent only on cold wet mornings, I'd stop the car and restart and all would be fine. Well this progressively got worse until sometimes the car wouldn't start at all and I'd need to jump start it. This didn't fit in with my lifestyle and so I got a new battery pretty convinced that was what the issue was. Put new battery in and after a few errors messages and restarts it seemed fine, well until the next morning, it just drained overnight to 12.3v, took it back thinking I'd got a dodgy battery, got another new bosch, but checked before installing this time it was fully charged, it was showing a healthy 12.9v and fitted it today eventually, but recoded using VCDS. I'm now keeping a close eye on voltage. MY theory is that because I didn't recode the first replacement battery the energy management system spat the dummy and drained it, well that's what I'm hoping because I've just shelled out £500 in total for what might not be the problem.. Any thoughts on this from anyone?

  5. Well they said that the were doing a full rebuild and that there was quite alot to replace. They did not say every single piece that is being replace but they said it is about £1000 in parts being shipped directly from audi in germany. And thanks for the advise i will definitely be asking for an invoice

  6. Many thanks Gareth, the voltage should have indeed been 12.24 not 2.24…

  7. Thanks guys. I already have piggy backs but no tracker yet. I will give this more thought as the Trutrak was recommended and looked a decent price and easy to fit. They even do one via the OBD port but that is too obvious a place to put it. I will have a re-think and consider different modes to see what is best for me. Thanks again. Regards Gordon McKay

  8. That's very good news Joshua. It almost restores my faith in car dealers.

  9. Hello Kevin, Steve has a good point, particularly since you say you recently acquired it because it had ‘so much sentimental value to see it go to someone else…..’ A couple of points here:- If it has so much sentimental value - why sell it? You know what you paid for it, and what you have spent on it, so are probably ideally placed to know ‘it’s value’. Of course, if it was bought with the idea of buy-it-work-on-it-sell-it-at-a-profit, ( and nothing wrong with that) then you might not go far wrong by listing it on EBay with a start price of ‘ what it owes you’, and let ‘the market’ decide its worth on the day. Kind regards, Gareth.

  10. Hello - whoever you are. Sorry to start off on a negative note , but you give us very little to go on - no name, no location, no year of the car, no info on service history, no MOT history, number of owners, and last change of owner, who (company?) has put this vehicle to the mileage covered? Whether you have requested a service history print out via. an Audi dealer-? High mileage vehicles can be better than ultra low mileage in some respects, but frequency of servicing become paramount. l Again with apologies, but do the homework and at least give us something to advise on! We do like to help on here, but you really do need to help yourself, to help us. Just in passing:- I’ll quote the outspoken Dewar ( of Dewar whisky) ‘ If we are put on this earth to help one another, what are the others doing to help themselves?’ Kind regards, Gareth.
