  1. Recently the car has been giving the impression of a flat battery when trying to start. It would turnover a couple of times but very very slowly. Turning the ignition off and then on again and the car would turn over slowly and then speed up and start but this may take a few attempts. It gave all the impressions of a poor starter motor. But having fitted one on a previous Q7 I know this is a 4 hour job and even with a decent discount is still over £200 for the unit. So decided to ring a local auto electrician that could hopefully diagnose exactly the part that needed replacing. (Vagcom showed nothing amiss by the way). He turned up and checked the car over and said that the cars alternator was charging the battery at around 13.6v. This is a indication of a poor earth and fitted another earth cable from the earth point under the bonnet used for jump starting to the engine manifold. Said he’s fitted loads as it’s a well known problem within VAG that the earths corrode over time and need cleaning. The car now charges at just over 14v and starts better than it ever did less than 2 seconds from turning the key. Turns over faster than my mates 2011 and 2014 Q7’s. Cost £10 for the earth cable and £40 for callout Including 1 hours labour. Hope this is helpful to anybody with a similar problem.

  2. Hello Jody, I take it it’s your local garage who want £900 to replace the master cylinder -? I could be way out on this, but this symptom is often associated with the slave/release bearing assembly. I would think a second opinion would be worthwhile before committing to any repair. Kind regards, Gareth.

  3. Hi just managed to get a local garage to diagnose and yes it is just the seized caliper. It only got hot on the bendy roads near my destination (ok on motorway) and thus seized entirely. I didnt have enough tools to any DIY repairs. Also as I drove it in the garage (only 1 mile from where i had stopped) there was a twang from the near side opposite side to the caliper and the spring had broken. Only now need the third thing to appear. Thanks for the response everyone - appreciated.

  4. Hello Andrew, If you are unable to get this looked at during your short stay, or don’t have the necessary tools to DIY the calliper replacement, then it might be effective to remove the pads and lever the piston back a bit - and repeat. Also check slider pins if possible. This might ease the problem enough for you to get home, and get it sorted properly. Kind regards, Gareth.

  5. Thanks for the reply had no issues since my last post . Funny you should say that I was fitting a gps antenna to back off mmi unit few weeks ago and all errors came up on dash. Airbag light refused to go out until was cleared with carista app. Will give everything a check under seat I think we're on the right track and we should solve this 1 sooner or later ... Regards mark

  6. hi @a6blacked007so I've had no issues since I last posted....that is until yesterday! I took the car to get cleaned at my local hand wash and i asked them to vacuum the car. I was watching him rest his body weight over the back seat and the centre tunnel and I was thinking to myself if the fault would come back as I've asked my kids to avoid that area for the last couple of weeks. and low and behold as soon as I drove off from the car wash all the errors returned! argggghhh! anyway so I took the back seat off and had another look at the central gateway module as well as all the cabling (by the way mine wasn't bolted down either). but this time no matter what I did I could not get it to stop pinging with errors. an hour later I started applying body pressure to other areas of the car like the centre console and it seemed to replicate the faults but I couldn't narrow the area down specifically to one spot. I was about to start stripping the centre console down thinking it might be a loose connection in the area of the rear ac controls and vents. But....it got me thinking! Every time I was applying body weight to the central console area the other thing my body is doing is applying the opposing force to the drivers seat! so I started moving around in the seat and the dash started to light up! so I got under the seat and just checked all the various connections, everything seemed to be connected, but as soon as I did this all the errors cleared!! so now I'm thinking it might have been a loose connection under the drivers seat all along! The guy cleaning did move all the seats back and forth, so might have loosened something. There are multiple connections under a black plastic cover under the seat. I removed that and checked all the connectors were firmly in place. I've driven 20miles since and all seems to be well again...touchwood! So it might be worth you checking the same connections since you mentioned the errors seem to happen every time you ride up a kerb. Hope that helps!

  7. Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch. Hope you're pleased with your new purchase. Here's a link if how to turn off the Q5 speed alert. I'm sharing this as the process should be the same to turn it on: https://www.vehiclehistory.com/questions/how-to-turn-off-speed-limit-exceeded-audi-q5-373420 You can purchase OBD11, VCDS for example for coding. But you'll need the advanced version.
