  1. Is anyone else getting annoyed by the useless “Driver Assistance” messages that get thrown up from time to time? For example, last Friday (14 July) I was driving from M20/M25/M11 in heavy rain and heavy traffic. Whilst I was concentrating hard on driving safely, a warning note sounds so I take my eyes off the road to see if it was something important, only to be informed that the was “Limited visibility”! I can’t conceive of the circumstances that would make that a valuable piece of information that I couldn’t have found out all by myself. I’ve had an even more ridiculous message during a thunderstorm when the system helpfully told me that because the weather was so bad it couldn’t determine if there was poor visibility or not. Audi say these messages can’t be suppressed except by deactivating the weather function on the MMI. I’d love to know if other owners are finding this as frustrating as I am.

  2. Hi Everyone…. No real intent or questions with this post - just wanted to share. Still loving my A4 tdi, just done timing belt and water pump (precautionary as didn’t know precisely last change mileage), replaced aux belt with idler & tensioner too, I have an alternator to fit but ran out of time, also did crank shaft damper in the hopes of not needing to worry about anything at the front of the engine for a while. I’m doing oil changes every 5-6k or so to hopefully help the old girls longevity. Clutch was done a few months ago so just waiting for something to go wrong now…..hopefulyl she’ll behave a while longer… Cheers everyone

  5. Hi all, recently came back to being an Audi owner. Formerly a mk1 TT and now a Q7 (kids and dog bla bla bla) and absolutely love it. Hopefully interact with some of you soon! Located in Milton Keynes, if there are any meets etc. 🙂

  6. Hello Adrian, My first port of call would be to check if it is indeed affected by this engine issue. Even if it is, it would be worth getting the other possible causes mentioned by Stevey inspected to at least eliminate them as aggravators. If it is indeed the engine issue in isolation, if it were mine, I would just keep putting oil in it if it passes the emissions - far cheaper over 5 years than getting any engine work done. At 20 litres/a I would be dispensing with annual oil changes, and simply changing the filter. You could try using a 5w/40 grade oil to see if that has any benefits. Kind regards, Gareth.

  8. Hi Adrian, as Steve said you have to get the engine code which will definitely be in the handbook, armed with that just google Audi A4 2011 [engine code] oil consumption problems, that will throw it up, can you please confirm petrol/diesel as both engines are very different problem wise, if its a 2.0 petrol it is probably suffering the ring problems, as for getting it rebuilt I would asses that would be the thick end of £4000 and you may be better served buying a reconditioned unit from eBay and just bolting on your ancillaries from the old engine, other than that you can try to live with it. Steve.

  11. Think yourself lucky that you don't need a clutch and flywheel done. Got both replaced recently on a 2014 Allroad Tdi... £1948 😭
