  1. I finally got it out with a vacuum, garden hose and straw. I still do not know what went wrong as I have done about 20 of these changes at least. Just incase it happens to someone else, that hole leads to the oil cooler and over to the heads so it is a must do to get it out. I was at the point of rolling the dice hoping it went in the pan but the center hole is where the oil comes up and goes out through the filter.

  2. I'm on may third A6 Avant with the 3Litre diesel. I'm approaching 100,000 in my current Biturbo. Absolutely no mechanical problems with any of them. The ZF eight speed gearbox is well tried and tested and doesn't require the maintenance of the S-Tronic. Likewise, no cam belt to change. Servicing is done by local garage or specialist . I average 37mpg in mixed driving. Best avoid any cars with panoramic sunroof - I'm in the middle of the well documented leaky sunroof carry on.

  3. JSon. Sorry to hear about your problems with your Q8 and the 48v system. On previous posts I did write that in my first Q8 in 2020 I almost always turned the start / stop system off as I thought it didn't achieve anything significantly and it was a nuisance. It was only later that I was informed that in doing this, I was disabling the 48v mild hybrid system. So in my current Q8 I haven't disabled the start/ stop at all and therefore the 48 v unit is being used I haven't had any problems with it at all so could you please keep us updated in how Audi is responding to your fault. I hope its sorted for you soon. Frank

  5. Virginia. A wet air filter suggests water may have been sucked into the engine, so it is very possible it has been damaged and will need to be replaced. It is equally possible parts of the electrical system have been soaked and no longer work as they should. Water and electricity do not mix. Your first course of action should be to get the car diagnosed on a decent tester to get an idea of what is wrong, and hence how much it will cost to put right. A new engine would cost a few thousand pounds and would probably be unjustified on a 12 year old car. A secondhand engine would be more viable if you are keen to keep the car. Wet electronics may be cheap or expensive depending on precisely what has to be replaced. Whatever the problems are, get a diagnosis before deciding what to do.

  7. Hi Steve, sorry for late reply. My engine code is AKN. Current situation is that I'm going to refit pump, belts, pulleys, front end so everything is aligned and good except for the pump which as said, is knackered but can be rebuilt. Then try and sell as complete car for spares or repair. It has the factory RNS-D sat nav fitted with all ancillaries. Also external input for mp3/smartphone music connectivity. The inside is pretty much as new. I'll let you know when I'm about to list it as you'd be welcome to check it out. You will be impressed. Cheers Richard

  8. Welcome, thanks for joining, and sorry to hear of your issue. Thanks Jason ( can we take it that’s your name? - profile reads JSon). This issue sounds serious, so I wonder if you would be kind enough to colour in as much detail as possible, so that others become fully aware of how this issue is first shown, and what the ‘system’ advises you to do, and/or what the Audi dealer advised you to do do. Perhaps it might help to break it down into some questions:- What was the exact wording that came up on your display? What was the wording colour? Were there any associated messages, such as ‘Do not drive’ ; Do not use/ contact dealer etc? Did the car become immobile or went into limp-mode when the warning message was shown? Did you continue to use it between the time the warning appeared, and until it went to the dealer? I think that would be enough questions for now, and trusting you will be able to help with some answers. Many thanks and kind regards, Gareth.
