  1. I could not agree more. Why throw more good money after bad? It's unfortunate that if one wants to buy a cheap secondhand car one needs to have enough knowledge to know what you are letting yourself in for in terms of fault rectification. This applies much more to any vehicle that has been mapped or modified in regard to DPF or EGR removal because it is so much harder to obtain good free advice.

  2. Hello Jason, I wonder if you would like to ‘dilute’ your claim that the best fuel to use is Shell, by prefixing it with something like ‘In my opinion’, since members follow advice based on the principle of what is written is indeed fact. It would be surprising to read that Shell would openly claim that their brand of fuel is the ‘Best’. Perhaps you would consider editing this post accordingly, or on the basis of reasonable claim, I can edit the post if you would prefer. Kind regards, Gareth.

  3. Hey Jasonj, Some interesting points you’ve raised there; 1. Would you be concerned about the rattle of the engine when it starts (video above) 2. It’s had some HIDs installed which to be frank, are poor and don’t work; they’re barely noticeable in the dark; I’ll 100% be taking these out and putting standard bulbs back in. 3. I can’t say for certain if the EGR blanking plate (only at the front, not blanked the cooler, I’ve unplugged the EGR too) has worked, but it’s defo performing as it should! I still think it has a map on the car; but it’s the first I’ve driven of this type. 4. It did have wires running from the radio to the back where it looks like a sub was installed! I’ve ripped the power cable out, and yet to remove the radio and pull the remainder, this may cause less obstruction on the electrical side, but I won’t know until I do this. 5. As before, I still have similar codes on the Topdon. I’ll let the bus system sleep and grab the codes in the morning. Note: It looks like I need a new rear wiper motor which I’ll pickup soon; but this shouldn’t cause any issues… I wouldn’t have though. Thank you for helping me over the past few days; it’s certainly been a great help in getting this back up and running!

  4. Thanks Jason. Ive just changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and the fuel filter. Its made a small improvement but im going to go ahead and change those parts youve suggested. Thanks for the pictures. Have you ever changed the balance shaft and the oil pump chain? I dont know for sure that this vehicle has both but im removing the 2 wings and bumper soon because they need replacing so thatll be a good time to check if those parts are present.

  5. Hello Zoe, Although the compression test has revealed a significant ‘mechanical’ issue with the engine, at least it has eliminated the need to waste money on injectors etc. to no avail. I notice the reference to a warranty, which was not known about before. Does that mean you have only recently purchased the car - or the warranty? I think the all important progressive next move is to obtain copy of the compression test results, and to start a written exchange with the warranty company. As always, we can only advise on an ‘if it were mine’ situation, and if it was, I would certainly discontinue any DIY mechanics on this car. It could leave you open to debate as to whether any faults have been aggravated by your ( partner’s) actions. Perhaps you could keep us up to date Zoe, and if we can help, we will. Good luck in getting it sorted. Kind regards, Gareth.

  6. Hello Peter, I recommend you stick with the tyre pressures specified for your tyre size - as shown on the door plate. No reason to consult any other available information. Kind regards, Gareth.
