  1. I received a reply, they have declined my rejection stating that the workshop has assessed the whine as a characteristic of the car and as a result no fault was found. He apologised for the damage caused and is checking CCTV and if confirmed caused by them, will offer to repair it free of charge. I have cancelled the appointment I had tomorrow for the vibration/rumbling issue to be diagnosed and repaired, after seeking advice from the consumer rights helpline and I have booked the vehicle in for a second opinion with another dealership, but not until 2nd July! Another mechanic friend of mine has suggested the noise sounds like a bearing in the gearbox or driveshaft/differential bearing. This is what my gut is telling me too! I would not expect a 4 year old Audi to make such a loud noise from a mild hybrid system that isn’t even working throughout the speeds that I’m experiencing the noise. The consumer rights helpline has suggested I formally write a letter using their templates and send by recorded delivery, which I will draft tonight, giving them 14 days to respond. Despite this taking me outside of my 30 days short term right to reject, this should still be honoured as I am making the rejection within the first 30 days. This is going to be a big battle, wish me luck. I have lost all confidence in the dealership now.

  2. Oops. Silly me. I read so many topics elsewhere concerning electric cars I have got used to mispelling of Li-ion by many folk.

  3. Hi Martin, Strangely enough I have a similar car. It is the same age 1999 but the 2.8 automatic engine. However we have done a lot more miles in her, 189000 last I looked. The side rubber strips peeled back a long time ago and our Audi approved garage glued them back on and they have been fantastic since. New Audi parts have not been available for years and the clips were not substantial even if new strips could be found. You seem to have different wheel caps but I googled my new ones very recently. The originals were plastic on my car surprisingly and when one broke off I was able to get measurements and details so that I could find the correct new ones. They are a perfect match and when I had the wheels re alloyed they worked nicely. Surrey Dents and Scratches in Chessington Industrial Estate and speak to Chris is my go to for bodywork. The touch up he has done has been phenomenal as far as colour matching on my Audi. But I suggest take the car to your nearest body shop should be able to do a good match on the colour it is now after 25yrs of weathering. Hope that helps and best wishes with your project. It is a lovely thing to do for a friend and worth it for such a lovely car with such low mileage. regards Katrina

  4. Apologies for being curt; I was rather pressed for time. It was persistence that was key. I ascertained the name of the dealer from whom the owner before this one bought the car. Worked out that they ‘normally’ carry out a pre-delivery inspection and service and give the car a fresh MOT. Assumed the MOT and service were carried out at the same garage. Found the name of the MOT centre by asking the vendor to enter his V5C reference no. on the GOV site. Called them only to be told that their digital records only stretch back 3 years, but that they could trawl back through the manual records which extend back further. To my surprise the nice lady at the garage called me later in the day saying that she had found it and did in fact have a digital copy which she duly emailed across to me. Hoorah! HTH.
