  1. Hi, I've registered with the forum because I'm trying to help my neighbour sell this Audi A2. It's a 1.4 TDI in silver and being a classic car enthusiast myself, i realise that the A2 is a bit of a rare model with somewhat of a following amongst those in the know nowadays, hence the reason i came here first. My elderly neighbour has recently passed away and his daughter has asked me to help sell his old car (i've known them since i was born). He was the second owner of the car and had it since 2012 as far as i'm aware. It only ever did local driving really. It would make a good donor car for anyone wanting a spares source or a project for anyone wanting that. Has a few cosmetic bumps and scrapes (elderly driver struggling in his latter years) but i think it's pretty straight under the surface and is un-modified. It does drive, in fully working order etc. MOT expired on 6th April and it's currently declared SORN I can supply pictures if i can work out how to get them on here if needed. Please let me know if anyone's interested Many thanks, Lee (Sheffield)

  2. Ask the dealer if he will guarantee, at his expense, that a new unit will solve the problem entirely. That should tell how much confidence you can put on his diagnosis. On a more general note, it is a shame main dealers do not allow customers to have direct communication with the mechanics, or technicians as they like to refer to them nowadays. The more barriers between the man who pays the bill and the man who repairs the car leads to distrust and unneccesary costs. It is one of the reasons I abandoned Audi main dealerships in favour of a small independent specialist where I could talk directly to the man who got his hands dirty.

  3. Thanks for the update Adrian, and I think your summary does in fact sum it up. You either spend to get the situation sorted ( but certainly not an economical option in my book), or you keep adding oil as it devours it. End result-? Is where you are - so much oil around the spark plug that it can burn it off, and the plug cokes up. What grade oil are you using - in volume! - to top this up? Ask you mechanic to do some homework on a hotter spark plug than that specified. Worth investigating. Kind regards, Gareth.

  4. Hi did you have this battery coded, if not the BEM will continue to charge at the same rate as the old battery which in record time will cook the new battery and kill it stone dead, seen a few like this in my time and its hard to convince people of the importance of battery coding, half an amp is not an unusual amount and if the battery is in good condition its sustainable, the batteries are massive, damage wise 10-11 volts will kill it. the Adblue control unit is b@ll@cks they either work or they don't as for powering down the whole car never does this as there are alarms, central locking. infotainment all in a low power sleep mode until you hit the unlocking button.
