  1. UPDTAE #2 On whim last night, I decided to unplug the MAF. I wasn't expecting anything here as the last time I had a MAF fail (on a PD130), the car had no power through the rev range. Anyway, after work, I started the engine and unplugged the MAF. No audible change in the idle at all. Drove it for about 5 miles and the idle when stationary was rock steady. there was no stuttering, hesitation or lurching at all. Normally, once the outside air temps are above 16-18 degrees, the idle is slightly bumpy, and the car is horrible between 1400-200 rpm as mentioned in the prior posts. Last night it was superb. It revved smoothly and delivered power evenly with no smoke or other issues. Based on this, would it be safe to assume that the MAF is buggered? I have the part number for my car, 074906461B (Bosch 0281002461), so getting a replacement is easy. My query though is after looking at some online, a large number of MAF inserts appear to have a resistor on one side, like the below image. My MAF does not have this resistor, so based on the fact that my hesitation/lurching tends happen when the air is warm, would this be something to do with measuring the air temp? Either way, after many hours of research, a handful of hours in VCDS and 15 hours physically wrenching on the car, I think I may have cracked it. Once I've fitted a replacement I will update.

  2. Hi Gareth, I think I may have the answer he said that the old spring was 10mm shorter, possibly snapped?, either way there is a vey thin veneer of detailed information and no point in trying to guess camber angles which you can't adjust without a laser. Steve.

  3. Welcome Terry and sorry to hear of your issue. There are a couple of You Tubes on this, together with other references found on a Google search. Worth a look pending other responses. Kind regards, Gareth.

  4. Hello Andrew, Thanks for joining. Not sure how many members we have in Germany. Based on information of a couple of decades ago, aftermarket parts availability was restrictive - unlike here in the U.K. - and Australia? Owners were therefore pushed to having to buy parts direct from main dealers. Now…? Sorry for being pessimistic, but your chances of getting leads from here within a couple of days maybe slim. Let’s hope I’m wrong. Can we take it you have searched EBay - ? Perhaps you could let us know. Kind regards, Gareth.

  6. Audi are not interested in customer care and as a result I'm test driving a Volvo today. Whether I buy a Volvo or not I certainly won't touch Audi again, not that they could care. The fuel filler cover locked shut at about 2.5 years old, which was another fiasco not covered by warranty, which gave me a taster of things to come. Aside from all that I have noticed that Audi drivers seem to be getting the same stigma/reputation as BMW drivers, so time to swap to something else!

  7. Thanks Cliff, I too wouldn’t contemplate renewing springs, shock absorbers as single items on one axle - not good practice. However, if there isn’t wear in the fixed points of the suspension, then, as said, the geometry remains the same, although the ride height from wheel centre to underside of wheel arch will differ if different spring heights are fitted, but….. back to the opening statement. Kind regards, Gareth.

  8. Hello, So sorry for the late reply with this one. The issued turned out to be the universal joint between the intermediate shaft and the steering rack as first suspected. It was pretty badly corroded. My mechanic has greased it up and it works perfectly now. I think he used penetrative oil the first time which wasn't enough to solve the problem. The grease however has worked a treat. I'm under no illusions it will need replaced at some point as the grease is only a temporary fix. There are a few videos on YouTube of people saying they grease it every six months or so. Thank you all for your suggests.

  9. Thanks Colin, Good to hear. Maybe of help to others:- I now also favour Exide batteries, and have bought a couple from Tayna Batteries ( no connection with the company) at competitive prices via. their EBay listings.

  10. Hi Ian, So far so good with it, cleared a couple of codes on my sons Peugeot 108 and most importantly coded a new Exide EFB battery to my sons A3. Just to add before I coded it there were numerous faults showing with the new battery fitted so it certainly did the trick. Good piece of kit and I also got £20 off as some sellers are doing £20 off vouchers on Amazon. Regards Colin

  11. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones.
