I spoke to Audi North America and Audi HQ. While they both agreed the design was faulty, they returned to manual intake control versus vacuum control, and they never did a recall. The parts are fairly poor plastic and will never hold up to the heat of the engine long-term, but there are no third-party or after-market solutions. Audi recommended a full intake manifold replacement, which includes replacing the vacuum unit with manual. That is a $3200 part. This is a poor solution, so I searched salvage yards and every after-market company in the U.S. One called me back to say he located the part on a shelf out of inventory. The part arrived yesterday ($450 USD), and I dropped it off at the shop. I am hoping to have the car back in a couple of days.2 points

It hasn’t been a good couple of days, but ticking over OK, so you have to try to find a bit of humour where you can - enough miserable old sods about to annoy you - so lovely to hear it’s made someone’s day. Perhaps ‘up your tank’ may have been more appropriate! Take care Steve.1 point

Its is a faint whooping noise, hard to hear over the phone. I've got it booked in at my nearest Lookers where I bought the car from. I will ask that the CV joints are looked at and steering column. Thanks1 point

There's no harm in asking Stephen, but it would be miraculous if you found somebody able and willing to do the job nearby.1 point

I think I hear it, but not sure. I do hear a creak at about 3 seconds which might be CV joints (bad news) or just one of the steering column bearings (good news).1 point

In principle, yes, but if you make the wheels one inch smaller you must make the tyres one inch bigger (higher profile) so that the overall diameter remains the same. That takes no account of physical limitations such as space and clearances for all the moving parts of the suspension and steering, so unless you know what you are doing you should consult a specialist.1 point

Hi Gareth, Thanks for your reply - No problem with the tyres at the moment - but having recently had four new tyres fitted, I suddenly thought -" if new valves have been fitted, did sensors go with them". Having said that - just checked with Audi dealership- who said that the sensors on the 2019 onwards A1, are part of the ABS ring assembly, nothing to do with the valves, as earlier models. The arrangement sounded very complex, but I suppose they should know. Kind regards, Malcolm1 point

Please let us know why you want to stick these suppositories in your tank Rex?1 point

I do remember allegros and their squared off steering wheels unfortunately A friends dad had an estate … hideous thing. Funnily enough, there are a few retro modded ones appearing on the car scene Back to todays Audi, I’m starting to wonder if it’s purely for cosmetic reasons …to make it look like a F1 Steering wheel 🤔😂1 point

Sorry John, all I hear is the usual diesel clatter. It oftens happens that owners post a recording of a noise that is very apparent to them because they become attuned to it as a result of hearing it every day, but we rarely hear anything strange from a short recording.1 point

Thanks for that detailed information Mohammed. It will defintely be useful for others.1 point

You can actually replace the handle, or wrap cable tie on it, Is there a key on it where it will only go in one way? I replaced my interior handle when the lock buttons wore away but can't remember if it's keyed,1 point

For your ‘I find it awkward…’ -see my reply to you re. Allegros - any help Ian? Re. Why shape it such? Handy for fatties bellies?? Am I allowed to say that? Kind regards, Gareth.1 point

Sorry for my absence, I’m having to care for an 86year old and could do without the car trouble at the same time. can’t even find a replacement car, with the current silly prices. ive got no slipping clutch just this damn rattle/knocking. It has progressed over 2024 from what I thought may be an exhaust sounding rattle when pulling away, but I can get the sound up into 3rd gear now if going up a slight incline. it doesn’t even exaggerate the problem if I give it the beans.1 point

Hello Stephen, Such expenditure regrettably puts anyone into this ‘spend or get rid of dilemma’ - sorry to hear you are in that situation. It would seem that the deal-breaker here is the labour time, since the parts prices seem to be more reasonable than I would have expected for a DMF inclusive clutch kit. Even at a very very modest one-man-band labour rate of say £50/hr. it’s going to work out at over £1200 I guess. As a matter of interest, why ECP, particularly now that they no longer have their high % discounts on so called retail prices? Seldom find them to be competitive. My go-to supplier is now Parts in Motion ( no connection), who have provided me with competitive prices on good brands ( they do cheaper brands as well, but…). I always check what their charge is before looking for the same brand elsewhere. Good luck with whatever you decide to do Stephen. Kind regards, Gareth.1 point

Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones.1 point

Make sure the Cambelt and water pump have been changed and the auto gearbox has been serviced regularly. Check service history and check MOT history on DVLA site. Make sure all electronic items work such as auto handbrake, AC and mmi. If looking at diesels the biggest bills come when needing to replace the dpf, egr or turbo.1 point
