  1. Hello Adam and Cliff, Apologies for jumping in on this, particularly since my suggestion may not be valid:- Are you sure the reservoir cap is always fully tightened? If so, it might be worth investing in a new one, since the system would have been pressure tested without your cap- so a faulty cap would have been excluded from the equation. Just a thought. Kind regards, Gareth.

  4. It’s been a long while but I finally have an update. 3 months after I rejected the vehicle due to being faulty, they are collecting it tomorrow and giving me a full refund. 3 months of frustration, arguing, insuring and taxing a car I can’t use, cancelling family trips we can no longer make as the family sized estate we bought isn’t drivable. I’m out of pocket £200 for insurance, £100 tax, £275 roof bars I can’t return, £75 fuel (it’s going back with more fuel that it came with), not to mention the exceptional hardship, stress and time. should I try and claim some compensation?!? They are not interested in doing anything about that!

  5. Good point Gareth. A new cap should not cost the earth.

  6. Just for info, i got my Alternator replaced at an independent garage, approx 1250 for OEM 48v Alternator, £250 for programming it, £350 labour and they had to remove Air Con gas apparently so i asked them to top it up full when they re-gassed it. Total Cost to me: £1922 and car was off the road for 3x days. Anyone know if the old one can be re-conditioned? Regards Nik

  7. Not so. Unless you have the agreed valuation in writing from the insurer you will only get the miniscule book value in the event of a claim.

  8. Petrol or diesel engine? You definitely have a coolant leak. That your Audi dealership can not find it suggests you need to find a more competant garage, preferably an independant VAG specialist. In three years of running a 2 litre diesel A3 I only topped up the coolant once with perhaps a quarter litre to make up evaporation losses.

  9. Well done. Mr Corcoran has responded to my question which he is unable to answer because he trotted out the response he had from Audi, which was probably in very guarded language. He has suggested I submit a Freedom of Information request to the DVSA for the Audi response- which I have done. Watch this space!

  10. Just as an update - thought I’d let you guys know what’s been going on… Imagine the worst case scenario - then x10! Booked the car in to have the glow plugs replaced. Couple of days before the glow plugs were due to be replaced - car cut out. It was hard starting but wouldn’t start. Recovery came out and sprayed a bit of ‘cold start’ in the air intake. Car started for about 1 second then stopped. Recovery say it’s a knackered injector, not glow plugs. Have car recovered to garage. Garage say fuel pressure is fine from tank to engine, but low to injectors. They change fuel filter but this makes no difference. They say the high pressure pump could be knackered and it needs to go somewhere else as they won’t touch it. Booked it into a diesel injector / fuel pump specialist to be looked at next week. They warned me that if the high pressure pump is knackered, it’s likely that all my injectors will also need replacing 😭 Update to follow….

  11. Sorry, but that is not ‘Agreed Value’. That is what you think (in caps) it is worth. Totally different things. Still, it’s not my car, not my expenditure and effort Edward, and I don’t think I can spell it out any clearer, so I wish you well with your belief that you are indeed covered for that value. Kind regards, Gareth.

  12. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones.
