  1. Update: Just booked my car in for the service and cambelt replacement, to be told it has a chain belt so no need for replacement. Happy days!

  2. Car was in Dealer today. They say they cannot fix my problem and have ordered a new controller switch. I asked if this was an older version of the switch in order to bypass the temperature control but they were very deliberate in avoiding that situation only saying that a new switch is on order and that would fix the issue. The technician agreed with me at the start of the process that they were not working this morning in 12degrees and the rain droplets were visible even after a 20 min drive into the dealership.

  3. Wel I took off the top bulkead hose (the one with a little hole for bleeding) and expecting bubbles but there was nothing. Pulled it right off and coolant was flowing back towards the engine, but a very slow rate. The engine was normal temperature. I held the expansion vessel as high as I could......its like all coolant anywhere isn't moving but its not overheating. I replaced the radiator about 15 months ago.

  4. Get a proper remap on a rolling road by companies such as darkside developments, Celtic tuning or Revo as examples.

  5. I feel your pain as I'm.in a similar boat with my A6. Mines still off the road as the engine rebuild cost is eye watering. But finding a 2nd hand engine that'll work is just as hard as it all.has to be coded and work with the injection pump, ECU and instrument cluster. If you decide to put in a 2nd engine and you find someone who can do it plus coding please let me know as I'd be very interested.

  6. Thanks Gareth, anny suggestions re welcome at this stage so will make that my first mission just to be certain. I think i will probably sell it to someone with more time/tools/experience on their hands but naturally want to be open about the condition of the poor thing! Shame really, 'twas (still is) a glorious wagon! Cheers! Rob,

  7. With the development of synthetic fuels electric cars are nill and void in my opinion. Especially as Germany has delayed 2030 ban on petrol/diesel cars because of this. They do more damage to the environment to manufacturer than an petrol/diesel car and their shelf life is a lot less. And a lot of the owners who think they're being green forget tyres, plastics and electricity all comes from fossil fuels. Not to mention the fire risk, this is my biggest concern. If I bought one and it sat on the drive then caught fire it could take 4 houses with it.

  8. You can't get owner details anymore. the only ones who can provide the info is DVLA but as mentioned gdpr regulations have stopped it. The easiest thing to do is buy from a dealer for peace of mind

  9. Hi Steve I haven't got a clue what goes on when I switch the Audi on. I bought my E-Tron GT initially for pleasing shape and performance. In my mind there is not much to go wrong with the car, accepting the braking and steering systems there are only two moving parts. The motors. I accept that the electronic systems must be very complex but most of the ICE cars these days are similarly complex. I do wonder sometimes what it is going to be like in the years to come with 70k - 100k miles on the clock. Tony

  10. Hi if you are selling the car how would you feel as a new owner when the belt goes bang a couple of months later, which it will, as Gareth pointed out this site is littered with stories of no milage cars that have thrown the belt at the five year marker, sold as seen with a recent cam belt change sounds far more alluring than just sold as seen, it might actually get you more money on the sale. Steve.

  11. Hi if I were you I would go back to the beginning, you mentioned that they fitted a new battery, did they recode the new unit to the car as especially on Q7/Q5 this will throw up all these type of communication codes, I worked on a Q5 recently that had similar problems and it turned out that the battery was going sideways, not only was it a cr@p brand the mobile pillock that fitted it told the owner they dont need coding as they sort themselves out, WRONG!,I fitted a Bosch battery and that was over two months ago and coding it successfully made all the faults go away, what leads me to this is the fault codes you published which state intermittent which I would read as possible low voltage faults, if the battery was not coded it charges at the same rate as it did with the failing battery and effectively cooks it because no one has told the ECU it has another battery, the other thing to try is clean all the connector plugs on the ECU as they are prone to moisture ingress which they are not to keen on, I could be very wrong as Q7s are notorious for ECU failure. Steve.

  12. Thanks Gareth. It’s reassuring to know that I haven’t missed any key angles on how to proceed. I shall post again when I get the outcome decision.

  13. Thanks for letting me join. Traveled 10 hours to get this beauty to take it back up north to Scotland a week ago. Needs a few things fixed before next summer. My first classic car.

  14. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones.
