  1. they are an absolute pain in the bum to change. but going in thru the wheel well is the quickest and "easiest" Make sure you have a axel stands and not working under there with the car held up by the jack. I use wheel blocks and axel stands every time now after a near miss some years ago that seen a shogun fall off a jack and narrowly miss taking a friends arm off at the shoulder.

  2. Hi some zoon of an engineer found out that a bag of silicate in the cooling system helped keep the antifreeze from deteriorating, they used to put the bags in the heater matrix but the problem is the plastic bags deteriorate and burst releasing the silicate granules in to the water which blocks the heater matrix, plan B later was to put a large bag in the expansion tank, the end result was the same the granules block the matrix but on my car you had to buy a new expansion tank and possibly a new matrix, the only reason I got away with mine was removing the bag from the expansion tank and flushing the matrix both ways with a jet wash then flush the block with the jet wash, it was just that my mechanic mentioned that some he had worked on had the bags in the matrix so they had to fit a new one. 3. This is how you change it: 2.5 Renewing bulb for dipped beam head‐ lights Removing – Switch off ignition and take out ignition key. – Turn light switch to position “0”. – Remove appropriate front wheel. – Remove relevant front wheel housing liner ⇒ Rep. gr. 66 . – Loosen locking bolt -1- a few turns. – Release retaining tabs -arrows- and detach housing cover for dipped beam headlights from headlight housing. Audi A8 2003 ➤ Electrical system - Edition 08.2014 132 Rep. gr.94 - Lights, bulbs, switches - exterior But you can take the bumper off and headlight out if you wish. Pictures for reference to show what it looks like behind the wig and bumper etc.

  6. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Definitely try eBay, car and classic and even Facebook marketplace. But with Facebook marketplace or eBay don't hand over any cash without seeing the car as there's a lot of scams.

  7. Hi I think from memory on most models around that year instead of fitting the Silica bags to the expansion tank they put them in the heater matrix as you have minimal flow it could well be that the bags have collapsed, the heater system bypasses through the heater core so the car gets warmer quicker, you wont overheat because of the primary bypass at the thermostat. 8. I had similar happen on my A6 2.0tdi just before Christmas, the idler pulley bearings disintegrate and the pulley falls apart, they will rattle a bit before hand (maybe a couple of weeks maybe longer), if you are fortunate and not going at speed you shouldn't cause too much damage, possibly just the belt and the idler pulley will need replacing. Unfortunately on the 2.0tdi (may be different on other engines) the whole of the front end needs to be put into the service position to get to the idler pulley, which is under tray down, bumper off, headlamps out and core support slid forwards to put it into the service position, if you don't have the slide bolts that VAG and ELSAWIN recommend you can always use 2 of the vertical bolts holding the bumper bar to core support, there are 2 vertical bolts either side, use 1 from each side. The idler pulley bolt is a spline key, it takes about 2.5hrs to strip down, replace idler pulley and belt and refit all the other parts removed, make sure though to mark the position of headlamps to each side with masking tape so as they go back in the correct position and not to turn the headlight adjusters when undoing or redoing up the headlamp securing bolts, otherwise it is bumper off to re-adjust them at a later date
