It’s that time of year again where we think of friends we may not meet during the year, but who we are in contact with by other modern methods that we can use to pass on good wishes. Our family would like to wish everyone on here a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year. I use the word peaceful since regrettably the world does seem to be in some turmoil, but we look forward to the time when harmony prevails. I would also like to thank all those members who take the time to try to help others when they need it. Be kind and considerate. Best wishes to you all, Gareth.4 points

Local mechanic will be a lot cheaper. The alternative option is an Audi independent specialist3 points

Yes and no, it depends on the competance of the persons involved not the training organisation. I suggest you look for independent VAG specialists to get the best of both worlds i.e, a good knowledge of Audi cars without the corporate greed and indifference of the Audi company.2 points

I sold the Audi A6 Allroad which I used these winter wheels on about 18 months ago so it's about time I got round to selling them. They are Audi original winter wheels, 18x7.5", imported from a German supplier of winter wheels so not often seen in the UK. They are specific Allroad tyre size and fitment; the wheels may fit other 2012-18 A6s but you'd need to do your own checks and the tyres are a higher profile than non-Allroad versions of the A6. Tyres are Dunlop Winter Sport 3D with M+S and A0 markings, size 235/55R18 100H. The date code on each is 0518 and they have about 2-3mm of tread front and 4mm rear), evenly worn. Sorry they're dirty but should clean up fine; they aren't kerbed or dented. I have a set of centre caps to go with them (visible in the picture on the car) - original 5-pointed Audi ones. Collection only from near Worcester. I'd be happy to receive £200 for them. You should be able to message me through this forum but if you have trouble post below. Thanks Denis, Now that we have a clearer picture of the car’s service history (we take it at a main dealer?) and your longer term intention, then I think everyone is better placed to advise you on its future servicing. If it were mine, and I intended keeping it for as long as possible, then I wouldn’t be untrusting it’s future servicing to main dealers, since the perceived short term ‘value advantage’ of full dealer service history ( if such a thing is real) would not apply. I would be investigating the cost difference between servicing at a trusted local independent, the main dealer, and a trusted local garage, and see what comes out of that. The advantage of using an independent over a local garage may only matter in cases of advanced diagnostics, so for ordinary servicing, a local garage maybe the option. When you say Major Service and all (in caps) filters changed -assuming main dealer - then I doubt if anything more than oil filters have been changed so far, since Audi’s air filter changes might now stretch to an undesirable 45K miles. Again if it were mine, I would be checking back on invoices to see exactly what has been changed and when. This will give you a better marker point for going forward. Wherever you get it serviced, always keep the invoices as evidence. Kind regards, Gareth.1 point

Hi you asked the question about the first code back in may this year, the reply for that from Steve Q was totally correct, the second code is to do with the starting module but I am intrigued as to what you are getting these codes from, if you dont have a good code reader you will never delete them so I would say the engine mount problem is still present as with the other code. Thanks Denis, It would be good if you could let us know how many services this car has had to date - inc. dates and mileages - and particularly in respect of the last service, what components, e.g. filters etc. were changed. Also, how long do you intend to keep the car, and what is your anticipated annual mileage? Kind regards, Gareth.1 point

I'm aware that it's been a while since this thread was updated but thought I'd add my experience. I got my S6 TDI new in April 2023 and have now done 36,000 miles in it, and it's had two services (at about 15k and about 30k miles). Before the first service I had to top up with a litre of oil - as per a message on the MMI. I'd noticed that the oil level was gradually going down because I'd checked it every once in a while, so it wasn't a surprise. After the first service it came back with the oil level mid-way according to the MMI. I had the garage pick it up and top it up to full because if it used 1l in less than 15k miles, I didn't want to have to top it up again maybe 7-8k miles after service. From full on the MMI it dropped but didn't need topping up again before the 30k service. And since then it doesn't appear to have gone down (they did deliver it back with the oil level mid-way on the MMI again, but I didn't make a fuss this time). So I'd guess my car was still bedding in until maybe past 20k miles (32k km); perhaps longer than you'd expect.1 point

Iv just looked at a neighbour’s facelift door and the handles are 1 piece and longer then pre facelift ones would look odd doing just one side …1 point

Thank you so much. I just recently replaced the pads with Brembo’s front and back and they seem to be working a treat. I ended up getting them from ECP in the end. Thank you very much for the recommendation.1 point

Tried some of those alloygators on my prized S6 wheels. After scraping the kerb to avoid a boy racer hurtling towards me, both alloygators came away from the rim leaving my wheel rotation wobbling down the road. I was only doing 20 mph near a school. I also think they make quality 19 / 20 inch wheels look Noddy. I cut them off in the end, I want to look at my wheels with pride. Even if that does mean refurbishments.1 point

Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones.1 point
