  1. There are good and bad independants, just as there are good and bad main dealers. You will have to research the reputations of those near you for yourself. As a generalisation I recommend independants because they give better service and are more approachable. Often they are also cheaper. Bear in mind that independants survive solely on their reputations; unlike main dealers there is no central organisation behind them to prop them up.

  3. Newbie to the forum here. Picked up my A3 Sportback 35 TSFI 8Y facelift just over a week ago, and I’m experiencing the same grinding noise coming from the rear passenger side. It was ex-demo, six months old, but still only low mileage (2,500), its with Bristol Audi at the moment, but they are blaming rust too, which we've all experienced before, but having done 200 miles with some heavy motorway braking yesterday and still hearing the noise when arriving home I’m not convinced. Interesting others are having the same issue from the same wheel, at first I wondered if it might be part of the mild hybrid recuperation or the parking brake biting a little.

  4. You could try good old brasso on them to see if it helps.

  5. If chrome polish will not deal with the corrosion, you can buy new chrome trims.

  9. Hi it needs calibrating and coding again with VCDS or OBDEleven even if you bought a brand new unit from Audi it would still need the same, I suspect the garage did not lock the entering of the steering wheel when they fitted the rack it only has to be one tooth out to throw up the lights. 10. Many thanks for an excellent review from Paul, which is far, far beyond expectation usage for normal owners - couldn’t wish for better. Thanks also to Keith for expressing his gratitude. The two don’t come together very often, so many thanks to you both. Keep us posted Keith, and happy hunting. Kind regards, Gareth.

  11. Hi, newbie member here… I can comment slightly, I don’t have the d5 version that your looking at but I do have the Audi a8 lwb 3.0v6 diesel 2017 model just before the facelift… I have owned the car since 01/10/2021. I purchased the car with 19,306 miles and I am currently sitting at 246,000 ish. i have to say, I’ve had a few lwb cars, this for me is the best car to date , I’ve owned Mercedes s class, bmw 7 series and my last car was a Jaguar xjl… for me, the Audi a8 has been the best, by far may I add… I love the driving position, the seats, the super smooth gearbox, the suspension, customers absolutely love the car, it’s been absolutely perfect. i have the car serviced every 6 weeks, and other than tyres and brakes along with the servicing it’s been faultless. after 5,600 hours of driving my long term memory states 43.1 mpg which is pretty good for such a big car. im hoping to get the car to around 350,000 before moving over to the d5…. I’ve heard of some issues relating to air suspension after a certain mileage and also adblue issues with the pipe, however, I’ve encountered none of these, maybe I got lucky. the jag was certainly a winner In the looks department, but basic inside and a bit ghosty with electric issues. the bmw was a nice but feel rear seat passengers suffered a harsh ride, maybe because my was an m tech version possibly. the Mercedes was nice as well, however main dealer pricing and customer service meant I wouldn’t buy another one.. for me, Audi will remain top spot.. it ticks all boxes, I quite like the fact that it floats under the radar in my profession… if the lottery numbers come up then I’ll head to rolls Royce, until then, the A8L is just perfect. Hope that helps.

  12. The note from Audi U.K. to all dealers about the 7 year extended warranty is in this thread. I attach again for convenience. You just need to make sure your car has the 9GB PR number (can usually be found on inside cover of owners manual). I just contacted service department at deal and explained situation. They denied knowing anything but once I directed them to the note from Audi U.K. they found it on the system. Ofcourse they will tell you we don’t know if it’s this we need to investigate etc. Them seeing this note will greatly help though as it alerts them they can claim the money back. I then took it in they ran diagnostics found it was alternator and got approval from Audi U.K. to carry out free of charge. No parts at the moment so a bit of a wait. Ignore Audi U.K., they are of little help just get in touch with your preferred Audi dealer and make them aware of the attached. Good luck!

  14. If air suspension is the most important factor look at these: https://www.drivinggeeks.com/cars-trucks-suvs-with-air-suspension/ https://dev.buyacar.co.uk/jargon-busters/cars-with-air-suspension/ https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/guides/most-comfortable-cars-uk/

  15. Adblue can certainly be problematic, however it's the same on other makes of cars, so why limit yourself to a recent Audi diesel? Of course you could buy an old diesel but then you would be no better off than your current leaky car with all its expensive repairs. Petrol cars do not use adblue, neither do electric cars. Naturally each type has its own inherent faults and problems that you will need to balance against their advantages, but there is no such thing as a perfect car that suits all owners.

  16. Should have said -all marques - not just Audi. Hopefully you will get more specific dates on here when Audi started on all models then. .

  17. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones.
