Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Add to that the owner manuals advise DAB+ is supported, it's not great. I'll report back with what they come back with.

I've now got a case reference from Audi UK. Spoke to a very helpful guy there and he's since emailed to say their tech team will need to take a look, so I'll share screen shots and updates with them when on laptop later. I'll update here as I hear something to report back.

Does anybody else get frustrated when people post a question, get suggestions and then never come back with a follow up to say how or if the problem was solved? Surely it's only good manners and it helps people with similar problems.

Hi, newbie member here… I can comment slightly, I don’t have the d5 version that your looking at but I do have the Audi a8 lwb 3.0v6 diesel 2017 model just before the facelift… I have owned the car since 01/10/2021. I purchased the car with 19,306 miles and I am currently sitting at 246,000 ish. i have to say, I’ve had a few lwb cars, this for me is the best car to date , I’ve owned Mercedes s class, bmw 7 series and my last car was a Jaguar xjl… for me, the Audi a8 has been the best, by far may I add… I love the driving position, the seats, the super smooth gearbox, the suspension, customers absolutely love the car, it’s been absolutely perfect. i have the car serviced every 6 weeks, and other than tyres and brakes along with the servicing it’s been faultless. after 5,600 hours of driving my long term memory states 43.1 mpg which is pretty good for such a big car. im hoping to get the car to around 350,000 before moving over to the d5…. I’ve heard of some issues relating to air suspension after a certain mileage and also adblue issues with the pipe, however, I’ve encountered none of these, maybe I got lucky. the jag was certainly a winner In the looks department, but basic inside and a bit ghosty with electric issues. the bmw was a nice but feel rear seat passengers suffered a harsh ride, maybe because my was an m tech version possibly. the Mercedes was nice as well, however main dealer pricing and customer service meant I wouldn’t buy another one.. for me, Audi will remain top spot.. it ticks all boxes, I quite like the fact that it floats under the radar in my profession… if the lottery numbers come up then I’ll head to rolls Royce, until then, the A8L is just perfect. Hi All, As most don't follow up on posts & its been a few months since swapping my front discs, I thought I'd do the right thing & give an honest update. The relatively cheap Audura discs & pads from Europarts, that I fitted, are very performing very well with absolutely no issues, no brake judder & they stop the car exactly as they should. I would recommend this particular brand especially if one is on a budget.

We've found this that other manufacturer forums get more footfall. I'm not sure why the Audi one isn't as positive. Myself and fellow admin team do our best to respond to posts but please bare in mind we are all volunteers who do work full time jobs (I do 74 hours a week!).

I don't presume to know what you're looking for Alex, but buying an S5 will likely have a decent specification on even a base model, minus things such as sound package or panoramic sunroof. Incidentally, LED matrix isn't gimmicky lighting. Far from it, this will have been a very expensive extra from new, over and above standard LED lights with features such as full beam assist, cornering lighting, etc. This type of specification helps sell it down the line unless you're planning for this car to be a long term keeper. You asked if S5s are typical for lack of servicing. No, not necessarily, but its a 2017 plate, so a 9 year old performance car, so it pays to do your research. The original owner may have sold it, and it could have traded hands a few times or been run ragged on a track or indeed modified. Without some sort of service log, then you've absolutely no idea what the history is. In terms of history, especially on an older vehicle such as this, then if its been maintained meticulously, even by the main dealer on a database, they can give you a print out. If the previous owner(s) were old school, then a physical service record is better. Doesn't need to be garage stamps, but receipts in a folder from a VAT registered garage, or simply parts purchased, and service mileage, in some sort of chronological order. That speaks volumes. I've had quattros for years, so I understand tyre wear. Normally you replace tyres in pairs on the same axle. There's no dark science to it. A car failing on tyres tells you the owner isn't aware of condition, wear pattern or tread depth.

It's an omron switch part no D2HW A201D Photos attached show the tabs soldered on to allow the original wiring harness plug to connect. Bit fiddly but it works. You may remember I sold my Audi E Tron GT at the end of August due to insurance cost (£3K) and also the RFT (£450). Incidentally it hasn't sold yet. I thought I would bid you all farewell and thank you for the info, and tips over the years I had Audis. I have just purchased a new Jeacoo J7 SHS Hybrid. It's not bad. Loads of goodies, 56 miles on electric, 700 miles total tank range, albeit I have only done 125 miles so far. It's good value, pretty good finish, but it is definitely not an Audi. Magnet thanks for the suggestions. my sensible car has always been a Toyota RAV4 and the Audi my “Fun” car. The Toyota garage is a small independent and as I’ve been going there for 30 years and bought new from them they have agreed to look at my car to see if they can identify where the water is coming from. I will update this thread with any solution I find in case it is of use to anybody.

Had my 21 plate Q7 down tools with the same error as many of you have experienced. Dealing with the garage was as a bit of a pain, nothing was written down and no one wanted to place any blame on the part. However, I picked the car back up today with a new alternator and battery at zero cost to me from Stratford Audi. Now to follow up with Audi UK for recovery costs. Thanks for all the advice on this thread, helped a lot in saving me a significant bill.

Just a quick update on my case — I picked up the car on Tuesday. All the repairs, including diagnostics, were fully covered under the 7-year extended warranty. The newly installed BSG also comes with an additional 3-year warranty. To my surprise, when I collected the car, I found a generous gift box from Audi in the boot. It included jackets, a hat, a bottle of Moët champagne, air fresheners, a backpack, a cup, a key ring, a cleaning kit, and a few other thoughtful extras. Overall, Audi really stepped up and handled the issue to the standard I expected. I've learned my lesson and decided to take out the extended warranty plan with Audi — better safe than sorry! All in all, I’m pleased with how everything was resolved and back on the road with renewed confidence.

Issue resolved. User error. Happy to embarrass myself if it helps others....this safety label was still attached to the new battery and wouldn't complete the circuit. Thanks everyone. 🫣

Had the same issue. Just give the polystyrene holder a firm pull and it will come out.

It seems my beloved Audi will live to drive another day. All that is wrong with it is the fuel injector sensor. Nothing wrong with fuel injector or the ECU, just the sensor.

Can’t believe that we’ve all now got the missing DAB radio stations back working I don’t understand what’s gone on since we all started to contact Audi and share and communicate and on this forum starting on the 4th April the involvement from everyone has been incredible and hopefully we’ve now got a long term resolution of the missing channels being restored Thanks to everyone involved

Thanks for Everyone who’s posted on this topic, Same issue apart from my car is used every day. I ended up buying one from an Audi dealer £100. As I had a week of long journeys, poss could have risked it and waiting for the e-bay delivery but I’ll never know. Anyway in my head I’ve still saved £150 fitting it myself instead of thinking of the £80 difference of the same part. I still ordered one from eBay and now I’ve a cheap spare. Thanks again for the advise I can’t imagine there are too many sensors on a modern car you can get to so easily 😊😊👍

Quick update - Martin at Bolton Car Interiors did a fantastic job, communicated really well and was reasonably priced for what was a unique job which no other garage could do. So indirectly he saved me 000's of pounds. Great place if you ever need any work doing.

Hi Everyone, a quick introduction here. In June I picked up a new A3 TFSI S Line Black Edition in Ascari blue. After a few minor quality issues I am now extremely happy with my purchase. Not going to bore everyone with the minute details but I had to deal with: 1. Loose number plate on the rear (Dealer fitted wrong clips) 2. Wrong puddle lights (no Audi rings) had to go back twice as they fitted exactly the same (incorrect lights) on the first visit 3. MMI software problems (settings not being saved) more on this in a separate post. We think we have solved the problem.

Welcome Lisa and thanks for joining. First things first - can we pass on our condolences for your Dad’s passing. Not an easy time - they only give us one, so always bad news. A couple or so pointers to hopefully help with your query:- Main dealers will not be interested in the car (as good as it may be), since in general, they do not retail vehicles over 5 years old. If they are going to buy it off you, it will be at a price low enough to resell it into their trade contacts at a profit, so really no point in perusing that route. Ways forward:- Enter the details into Parker’s Guide, and you will come up with a ball park valuation for an average mileage car sold privately. If you want a ‘mileage adjusted’ quote, then I believe you have to pay. Worth doing that?? Search EBay and Autotrader for similar year examples, building up a picture of a number of valuations, some of which might be for lower mileage examples. It is worth noting that (unless you are very lucky) you are unlikely to sell the car at prices that dealers are asking, since yours will not be sold with any warranty. Apologies for being pessimistic, but you are trying to sell very much at the low demand end of the year., and the car will effectively be a year older by the end of the month. Another disposal route could be via. the Motorway advertising route, or similar. I don’t have any experience of this, but you could investigate. On a brighter note, such low mileage cars normally find homes among family and friends, and as such tend not to spread out to the wider market. IV just bought my first ever Audi and classic. My Dad had one over 20 years ago and I thought I would follow in his footsteps. Drove 10 hours up north to sunny Scotland and gave me no problems on the way. Hope to get it running more smoothly for next summer. Does anyone have any advice on owning, driving and maintaining one? I'm a car guy but not overly confident when it comes to tinkering with cars mechanically. It's a Audi 80 16v 2.0. Thanks Chris

I am being "testy" as you call it because the forum is being plagued by people like yourself who pose questions and never bother to look at the replies that others have spent time and effort on. If your problem was important enough to spend time composing your questions, surely it is worth a little more time to read and aknowledge their replies? Is that really too much to expect? Last month I had a rear caliper fitted to my 1.4tfsi. It has an EP brake. searching around I found prices to be all over the place. you can get them new (with motor) from eBay for about £90! prices go over £300 plus… and some vendors charge a surcharge for your old caluper. I settled on one for £177 inc vat. (No surcharge) from brakes international. I paid £80 labour to have it fitted at a local Audi specialist. i dint look to buy a caliper without motor .. I wasn’t aware this was an option !?? I guess if money is no object, you could replace both callipers at the same time but callipers do not necessarily require changing in pairs based on the off chance the one not replaced is going to fail any time soon.

Hi All, In the UK, all petrol and diesel come from only a handful of refineries; Immingham, Fawley, Grangemouth, and a couple others. All petrol stations (branded and supermarket) share the same 'base' fuel and add their own additives. The things that cost 'more' money are the additives they add (cost money to develop), and the octane / cetane content. I have Fuelpecker and now WEX, so generally always use ESSO. I also use Millers additive which supposedly adds Octane. I've used supermarket fuel before (and still do on occasion), and for some strange reason, Morrisons fuel has always caused my car to hesitate from time to time, so i do stay away from that if i can. If they are using the same 'base' fuel, it makes me wonder if Morrisons, or other supermarkets reduce what they add to the base fuel (octane/cetane/additives)? Thanks, Joe

Guide and pictures credited to Jack Millin. Flat bottom steering wheel off a S3 8P fitted to my 2010 B8 Avant. The electrical plug needed 2 little tabs trimming off and 3 of the wires de pinning and putting in different positions and it all works. I've attached a picture of the wiring guide as well. This guide should also be applicable to the b7 A4 too.

Having had an S4 Avant 10 years from new (B8), I was waiting for Audi to get over its diesel S4 period, so welcomed the launch of the new S5 Avant. I found a dealer willing to sell me one of the first available cars (they had one more arriving than they were required to hold by Audi for showroom/demo) - and took delivery in November '24. If I had just placed an order for one I was told it would be delivered in April/May '25. It is the fully loaded ‘Launch Edition’. I have now done 4,500 miles, so possibly the most experience of this model in the UK. My overall impression is of a car that is highly loaded with clever features, but the software development is far from complete! There are many software issues and, so far, I have seen little interest from dealers or Audi in sorting them. Many are annoying and reduce the use of features (I have turned them off), but one stopped the car totally. Here are a few examples:- - The ‘speed nanny’ (beeps when you exceed the speed limit) very often gets the speed limit wrong. It miss-reads signs or misses them altogether and seems to work both from map information and camera recognition of signs. For example, on a 70 limit dual carriageway (non-motorway) it most often thinks the limit is 60, then passing under a bridge it will change its idea of the speed limit to 30 mph. I turn it off every time I start the car (useful to be able to programme a steering wheel button to do this). - The ‘cross traffic’ detection when reversing will suddenly apply the brakes to stop the car if it thinks there is cross traffic (so sudden it feels like you hit something). It took me a while to work out what was causing the braking. There was no cross traffic. It thinks my hedge, my wife’s parked car, my daughters gate, etc. are cross traffic!! When I took delivery, the salesman commented that it suddenly braked when he backed it into the showroom … I have switched this feature off. - Driving past an exit slip road on the inside lane of a dual carriageway it gets confused by the white line marking (hatches etc.) and applies the brakes – not what you want at 70mph. - The infotainment system’s behaviour seems inconsistent (there may be a logic, but I haven’t found it!). - The worst case was when I parked one day then came back to the car – it unlocked, but then was totally dead, nothing on the displays, it would not start, the brakes could not be released, nor the steering lock and I couldn’t open the rear door or lock the car again. It took Audi recovery 3 days to recover the car to the local Audi dealer and 2 days for the dealer to fix. It was apparently a ‘known’ software problem and fixed with an update – I was not notified of any recall. Needless to say the update did not fix the other issues. Other non-software thoughts? - The car is significantly bigger than the B8 A4/S4 with less room inside, feels more like an A6/S6 to drive. Disappointing. - Storage space is more limited – there is no room for a spare wheel and the emergency tyre re-inflation kit does not fit the dedicated space under the floor. The first aid kit has no home, so these things rattle about the luggage space. - Performance is of course good, but the supercharger (combined with gearbox set-up) of my old car gave better rev/torque characteristics than the new one. - The hybrid operation/performance is good and well refined. - The 20 inch wheels on my car give relatively poor ride – take the 19 inch if you can. - In my personal view the styling is poor, messy and more bling than I prefer. What would I recommend? It is a good, but not exceptionally good car – but I would suggest giving Audi another year to finish the development … so don’t buy yet.

They will quote chapter and verse and you’ll be even more confused. It’s not just the belt, it’s the bearings on the pulleys. New kit comes with tensioner pulley, etc. normal course is to replace water-pump and auxilliary belt too.

To answer that specific question, there is a small possibility that the timing belt has jumped a tooth on its sprocket and the engine has stopped in time to avoid damaging any valves, so the garage is hoping that a new belt plus retiming the engine will solve the problem. In reality there is a much bigger chance that either several teeth have been jumped or the belt has broken causing valves to hit the piston crowns. As for the other comments on belt life, I too believe it was a grave mistake for Audi to change its recommendations. VAG is not alone in making this sort of mistake. Look at the problems caused by Ford and others who have changed from dry belts to wet belts in an effort to eliminate an expensive crankshaft seal.

Well, this morning I got the car warmed up and the ATF temperature was reading 40deg after a painful 35minutes of idling while periodically slowly going through the gears. While the engine was still running I unscrewed the fill plug and was able to get another 200-300ml of ATF fluid before it came dripping back out. So with roughly 5.8ltrs of ATF back in it I took her for a spin and she was faultless, gears changed quickly and smoothly regardless of what drive mode I was in, even manual shifts. So I'm going to take that as job done. Thankfully the rear diff only took 5min to change the oil.

Sorry to read your issues. I have had a Q6 Launch Edition since day one and have had no end of faults, faults that Audi to this day still have not resolved, some minor some dangerous, slamming on the brakes doing an emergency stop for no reason, called a ghosting effort on the sensors or headlights that do not turn on to traffic speed signs not being recognised so you can not use ACC, the dealer has been great but close to one year of ownership not a single fault raised has been resolved and there is a lot more then I have mentioned. We have had the same issue as you but got around this by locking the car, walking away for 15 minutes, going back and trying again and all worked like nothing had happened, fault has not happened again, dealer looked and no faults show on the car. My advise to anyone looking at a Q6 or the new A4 is don't, they car has issues and until Audi resolve them look else where. If you do own one, take video footage of the issues as the car will report no faults to prove the fault, Audi claim if the car says no fault then the fault did not happen. Will not be an Audi owner once this car goes, they charge more then any of the others in the group but the cars are the most unreliable. Family member has the 2025 Skoda Enyaq VRS and has not had a single issue. Keep us updated with what your dealer claims.

If you were to ask Audi directly. Is my RMC MMI radio DAB+. The answer would be yes. The issue appears to be head units RMC HW H61. My brother has an A6 Avant. Same car as mine, but his is 2013. He has no issues with his radio. His unit is RMC HW H50 something. The Audi representative that has suggested that we buy dab+ compatible radio needs sacking. Ask this person to suggest a stereo because the ones we all currently have are supposed to be DAB+. Have a look in your booklet in the black folder. It specifically states DAB+. We are being fobbed off.

Whether it is worthwhile is a judgement only you can make, depending on how attached you are to the car. In your place I would get the cost of repair and compare it to how much you are willing to pay for a different car.

When I got my Q5, I was painfully aware of just how scratched and dented the centre trim was. Decided it was finally time to rip out the whole centre console so I could remove the offending trim. Replacing with a standard trim would just end up the same way, the carbon replacements are either too expensive or poor fitting so instead I used some alloy wheel repair filler to fill in all the dents and scratches. After a few hours to cure I got on with the boring job of sanding it down. Got some carbon fibre wrap and set to work. Took me forever to get to this stage but as it was my first attempt at wrapping I expected as much. Carefully put everything back together and here is the end result. Think it's turned out rather nicely 😎

Had this message appear on Friday night. Thankfully having read this tale, I knew exactly what to do - ordered one off ebay £14.99 it arrived today and was fitted tonight in less than 5 mins - great forum.

Arrived in 2-3 months. Way earlier than anticipated.

Update: Just booked my car in for the service and cambelt replacement, to be told it has a chain belt so no need for replacement. Happy days!

I found the same issue under my 05 A4 avant quattro tfsi. Nearly fell over when I saw the extent of the rust above the rear spring supports (hidden under the felt wheel-arch cowling) and bad rust all along under sills from rear to front hidden above the plastic undertrays. NCT in Ireland is pretty thorough but none of this rust was spotted so the car flies through every year. The rust stops where the plastic undertray stops i.e. where the chassis is permanently exposed and can dry out properly. I'm getting the car welded. Plastic undertrays/felt cowlings free to take away - belly will remain naked from now on!

So after multiple lights and it being scanned etc all showing different faults it turns out it was a sensor on the back left passenger abs sensor that was faulty hence setting start stop / passenger air bag /abs / audi auto lights and many more lights off so touch wood this has resolved the issue as of now no lights on and back to normal just £165 quid lighter
