Hi guys, some of you may remember the problems I had with my A4 clutch slipping and brake servo restricted message appearing. Well.. upon taking it to a garage it was discovered the clutch wasn’t sitting right and caused scorching to the oil pump causing it to leak all over the gearbox. Overall cost .. £6700 for new gearbox , clutch and oil pump including labour. The car went back! Now.. I have the exact same model but a 2018 instead of 67 plate. No issues thus far! The only gripe I have is that it does not come as standard with power folding mirrors! My 2012 Q3 has these as standard so for this not to have them is really poor. I have double checked and know what symbol should be showing on the little knob on the drivers door. The icon simply isn’t there 😞 anyone else have the same problem? carl.

Hi Falka, i joined up with Audi Assist for 12 months and a technician came out within 2 hours - hooked up the diagnostics and changed the sensor, fixed ! Just like magic. Thanks so much for this otherwise I’d never have had it fixed when I did. Sometimes visiting forums when other people are in your position can be incredibly rewarding! -Oh, and I didn’t have to pay a penny as it was all covered with the garage I bought it from 😊

Hi Steve, Took it to an independent garage who confirmed the clutch tension wasn’t right and therefore needed adjusting. They are carrying the work out next week and if a new clutch is required off the back of inspection then so be it - the garage I bought the car from are paying for everything so I’m not too bothered. Yes .. ideally this shouldn’t be happening but we don’t live in an ideal world. We love the car itself, it’s beautiful - inside and out so with this problem fixed it’s happy days 🙂 Carl.

I should also like to add that it’s not necessarily just 6th gear it does it in.. it can be any gear. I also find the clutch to be very high, therefore the bite is very high. Whether that’s just an A4 thing or not I don’t know… thanks.

Hello. Model is a manual A4 Avant 67 plate 1.4 TFSI Car arrived Thursday from an independent dealer, when driving in say 6th gear for a while.. then giving it some ‘moderate’ acceleration.. nothing too aggressive… the RPM limiter will sometimes shoot up for a split second then go back down. It also does it if I suddenly go from a causal speed in 6th to flooring it (this was more just to experiment, not my usual style of driving) any ideas? The clutch was fully replaced in March by the previous owner. Clutch feels lovely to drive, no obvious issues etc. could it be Turbo lag? Thanks, Carl.

Incredible ! I am going to do this first thing Monday. It’s a £99 joining fee and then I have to pay a call out charge of another £89 or something but totally worth trying rather than waiting a whole week to go direct to Audi. I am going to ring the car company I bought it from first just to confirm this is ok. Can I ask Falka… did they know about the issue prior to coming over because you explained over the phone or did they just discover it when they arrived? Did you also request an Audi technician or was that who just happened to arrive. thanks.

Update - rang Audi Assist who basically couldn’t guarantee the technician coming to see the car would fix it there and then and may advise taking it to local Audi dealer anyway… with all that considered, ill stick to the original plan of taking it to Audi next Saturday for them to find and tell me what I already know. The car company I bought it from have said not to worry and that they will cover it all so for now I must leave it on the drive and carry on living life ! Oh the joys … not something I expected having to do after buying a new(ish) car.

Hi Pen, Thats absolutely disgusting from Audi, the fact they let you drive it away only to then cause more damage and a hefty bill. Were you compensated due to the person at Audi saying it was ok to drive? I have rang my local Audi dealer who surprise surprise didn’t know anything about this error message and said without looking at it and doing diagnostics it’s difficult to say (yeah right and I wasn’t born yesterday either). So it’s booked in for next Saturday for a ‘check’ even though we all know the fault. I can tell them what to do myself! Anyway… after hearing from your experience, If a representative says it’s ok to drive I won’t be taking their word for it. Tried calling the aftersales team at the company I bought the car from to explain the situation but their unavailable right now but someone is going to ring when free. I’m going to be fully honest about the issue and what I’ve discovered online and explain that by driving the car they run the risk of incurring a possible £3000+ bill. Given that information, they should surely tell me to go ahead with Audi Assist where I’ll join for a £99 fee for a year. Will keep you posted guys. thanks

Hi Gareth, Thanks for the advice, I’ve already notified the seller who have told me to invoice them whatever the charges. Seeing as I cannot drive the car and run risks by fitting it myself … the only other option is by getting Audi to come to my house and replace it? thanks.

Tell me about it, just shear bad luck. The company I’ve bought it from are probably totally unaware of this fault. Rather than bill them £3000 for a new ABS unit (which arguably they wouldn’t pay out for), I’ll just order a sensor part and fit it myself. I know there are different ones to get, but I think I’d feel safer knowing it’s coming direct from Audi so will give them a call today. I just hope this isn’t going to be a recurring problem, I can’t imagine the sensor gets changed just the once and it never happening again ..

Hey all. Bought an A4 Avant 67 plate 1.4 TFSI from an independent garage and it arrived yesterday - no error messages. Today however, Brake Servo / Engine Start/Stop message has appeared. As I have a 30 day warranty with the company I purchased the car, they’ve told me to take it to a garage to have it fixed and then they’ll pay the invoice. So I’ll be taking it to Audi of course… seeing as I’m not paying for it. I’m booked in to my local Audi for June 4th, my concern however though is if I continue driving it for a week, is it going to do damage to the ABS as mentioned previously on this thread… Carl

Sluggish Move Off - 1.4 A4 Avant Manual
Crazycarlo replied to Crazycarlo's topic in Audi A4 (B9) Forum
Thank you both. After driving it some more, I can say that I’m much better at it now, it just takes getting used to and like you said Glen - once it gets going it is by no means a slouch! Pretty fast car… I noticed there was a tiny slip of the clutch at one point when accelerating up quickly through the gears at speed, where the rev counter suddenly shoots up and then regains power again. The clutch was replaced in March - which for a 67 plate and 26,000 miles seems somewhat concerning… -
Hi all, I am thrilled to say I’m a proud owner today of a 67 plate S Line Avant. Everything seems lovely and it drives well BUT moving away in 1st is somewhat tricky and very slow. It’s very difficult to build some momentum between balancing the clutch against the accelerator.. so much so that when you want to emerge out into a roundabout quickly you feel a tad anxious about the delay! Is this just a case of me getting a feel for the car or is this kind of the norm? thanks, carl.

It’s an SE model, so unsure what exact features it has, but it’s worlds above any previous car I’ve owned. So many mod cons I don’t know where to start haha.

Well I’ve purchased my new (even though used, new to me lol) Q3 today, and I absolutely love it! It’s a 2.0 TDI, such a lovely car to drive! Here it is 😊

Hi both, Thanks for your advice. I had an email from the dealer (days), the minute I sent this post out saying that the cam belt was in fact done by Audi in November last year so that’s a worry off my mind! thanks for your help though . Carl.
-
Hi all, Me and my girlfriend have put a deposit down on a Q3, and the collection is tomorrow. We have just realised that the cam belt hasn’t been changed and wondered if this should be done before purchased with the dealership? It’s a 2.0 Diesel 62 plate with 30,000 on clock. Any advice? Thanks.

Thanks. What’s the ride like? Can you feel every bump as it’s quite a sporty car? If it’s anything like my Civic type S then I don’t think I’d be interested. I know ultimately I need to test drive one, which I will as soon as I’m ready to buy. Just doing my research first. Thanks. Carl.

Hey Adbro, Makes perfect sense! Thanks for your help.

Hi all, I am very interested in test driving a used A3 1.6 Diesel S-line, (63 plate) however I’m a little dubious about the speed of it as the BhP is only 102. Just wondered if anyone has one who can shed some light on whether they actually have any go in them or not? thanks, carl.
