A6 Avant Alternator Issues advice please
PaulAFC84 replied to PaulAFC84's topic in Audi A6 (C7) Forum
Thanks Stevey, much appreciated. I’ll have to see how this repair goes and go from there. Do you have any idea when the DPF becomes a problem or is it one of these things that could happen at any time? -
A6 Avant Alternator Issues advice please
PaulAFC84 replied to PaulAFC84's topic in Audi A6 (C7) Forum
Thanks for your reply Steve, yeah it’s a 3.0 tdi, it’s been a great car as I mentioned, this is probably the major outlay in cost, in all honesty, apart from the consumables. I am just slightly concerned at what could be next. Hopefully it will be ok for the time being. -
Morning Gents, I was out on the weekend when the car lost all power, showing alternator fault, before losing all systems. In the garage, got a call quoting £850. The main question I have really at the minute, for anyone with a similar car with similar is are there many more expensive issues to come? Or should this be the turning point to start looking for another car? The car has been great, still in great condition, 123k miles, but I’m just concerned at having many more expensive issues on the horizon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Paul

Did you manage to get this resolved Frank? I had the same problem, the solenoid had seized up in the closed position

Afternoon Everyone, I'm having a problem with the drivers side mirror on my A6 Avant, the mirror glass is lifting from the mount, which is apparently a common problem.I just wondered if anyone could help with a part number, and whether this is something that would be easy to rectify myself? Only I had the same problem with the passenger side, but I went to Audi, who supplied and fitted, but I’m not looking to do that this time. Many Thanks, Paul

Thanks for your help Steve, I bought a replacement fuel tank housing from eBay and had to swap the body coloured flap over, but it’s all sorted now. Didn’t really take too long either, which was a bit of a bonus, second time around. Many Thanks Paul
-
Hello Steve, Thanks for your help, really appreciate it mate.I’ve ended up buying a fuel filler cap housing, complete with the rubber that I’d split.Hopefully the coloured flap is easy enough to remove and swap for the colour I have already. Fingers crossed, but thanks again, Paul

Morning everyone, and thanks for your help and information with this.I managed to swap the solenoid over which now works fine. The only problem I had whilst changing this over is that I split the rubber seal of the fuel tank inlet whilst removing the housing. Is this something you would bother replacing as well as I cannot repair it? I was looking at eBay for replacements, but most of these are located in Eastern Europe. Many Thanks Paul

Thanks Steve mate, that’s excellent. Thanks for your help.Have a nice weekend.👍🏻
-
Thanks Steve, is it any particular part number? I’ve been looking at eBay today, would probably just swap it over if I went to the time to take it apart, just not sure what part to buy. Thanks, Paul

Hi Gareth, Thanks for your reply,is the solenoid quite easy to access? Thanks Paul

Morning guys, I’ve had a bit of a problem getting the fuel cap door open on my A6 C7 Avant. I had to prise it open to fill as I had to pick my Mum up from hospital.Any ideas on how to fix or replace the solenoid please? I’ve tried WD40 but it hasn’t done anything to help. Many Thanks Paul

Thanks Gareth, sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of reassurance. It’s a fantastic car, and I enjoy driving it.It’s definitely the best car I’ve had so far.

Thanks a lot gents.I find myself going from thinking that there’s at least another 100,000 miles in the car to wondering if I’m racking the mileage up.Most of the time the engine is hardly working, and the fuel consumption is pretty good for the engine size. But then I guess you buy cars like that to drive, not just to keep outside. The problem I had when looking for Avant’s was trying to find one that had everything I wanted that wasn’t hundreds of miles away from where I lived with low mileage
-
Evening guys/girls, I just wanted to ask you all for a bit of an opinion really,I’ve got an A6 Avant S-Line, 63 plate.Should I be concerned about the mileage nearing 90k? Obviously due to Covid I’ve been using the car a lot more to commute to work during the lockdowns etc. I still love the car immensely, like the amount of power and the extras it has, but I know people turn their noses up at vehicles with high mileage when selling.Just wanted to gauge your opinions if possible please? Many Thanks Paul

Afternoon all, I got home yesterday to find the drivers side door lock cover loose on my A6 C7.I phoned Audi to see if you can order a painted replacement from them, but you can’t. They only sell primer ones, and you would have to get it painted yourself. I just wondered if anyone on here had any links to any parts websites that they could share? Many Thanks Paul
-
Sorry for the really late reply. It seems that this is a well known problem with the A6.I went to Harold Wood Audi and the guy there said the bonding on the back of the mirror itself has deteriorated due to the mirror heating. I had to buy a new mirror glass and had them fit it for me. Hope this helps

Evening all, I just wondered if anyone has had a diamond cut alloy refurbished more than once. Caught a kerb the other day and scuffed my front near side alloy quite badly.I had this rim refurbished last year, but I’ve heard that you can only have them refurbished a couple of times. Many thanks for your help.

Gareth thanks a lot mate. Disappointed with myself really to be honest. Should have left it until I had more time to look at it. Might give the glue a try to be honest, if not I’ll have to bite the bullet at £100 to replace.
-
Hi Gareth, that’s brilliant mate, thanks. The price isn’t really the issue, it’s more the fact of how much Audi will want to fit the complete air vent module when it’s only the brushed aluminium surround that I broke. Unless I pay the £100 and only replace the housing itself. Thanks for your reply
-
Morning Gents, I just wondered if anybody on here could help me.I need to try and get a replacement brushed aluminium air vent surround as I broke mine whilst repairing the air regulator. I phoned Audi this morning, apparently you can’t just get the surround, you have to get the complete air vent housing which is over £100. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks

Hello Gareth, Thanks for the reply. What is happening is that the glass seemed to be vibrating due to the winds at motorway speed.I had a gentle look yesterday and it seems like the glass, or a replacement has been glued to the mirror backing and has come loose.I’m driving to Somerset in a few weeks and I don’t really want to chance the drive struggling to see out the passenger mirror. I don’t mind buying an aftermarket mirror glass, but I just want to make sure that I can get the right one, and that the mirror heating still works. I’d try and glue it again myself, but I have no idea how to get the mirror mount out and how to realign it afterwards. Many Thanks Paul

Morning Gents, I’ve had a problem with the o/s wing mirror on my Avant and I’ve finally discovered what it is, the glass must have been broken previously, however the wing mirror itself and the housing are ok. So whoever had the car previously had glued the glass to the mount. Its becoming quite difficult to see out of while motorway driving now.So my question is, does anyone have any idea where I can get a genuine mirror glass or have any idea how much Audi would charge for the glass? I need to get this fixed ASAP really. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Paul

Afternoon guys, I wondered if anyone could help me, recently I’ve noticed that my off side wing mirror glass starts shaking whilst driving at motorway speed. The mirror housing is fine, and has not been hit. I wondered if anyone else had experienced the same and had any ideas for a possible solution? Many Thanks Paul

Evening mate, Thanks for your help on this one. Will have a look in the coming weeks.Much appreciated. Paul
