  1. What exact model year and car is it?
  2. Which petrol model are you comparing with? I had a V8 Allroad (300bhp) a few years back, 22mpg was excellent! On the other side, I’ve recently owned a 1.0 tsi dsg Seat Leon estate. Remarkable engine, 115bhp and it averaged 54 over a 3 week, 1000 mile holiday trip. so it’s all relative! my current 3.0tdi Allroad averages 39-40, my sons A6 avant 3.0 tdi dies about 42.
  3. Had a chat with another techy and we’re now not sure if this module is hardware specific to each vehicle or if the unit has the required software options enabled to make them specific for each vehicle. or even if each module IS vehicle specific! so ANY info anyone has will be helpful. thanks dave
  4. Looks about right, steady speed on any road is always more efficient. look up the ‘Honest John real mpg’ website, it gives an average of owners mags that they’ve sent in so I think it’s probably one of the more accurate ones.
  5. Hi folks, I’m swapping my seats for heated & ventilated versions, Does anyone know if I need to change the Body control module/convenience module/comfort module? (I’ve got the new Climate control module). I’ve heard all 3 terms used, not sure if they’re all the same of different units! But looking through various parts catalogues, I can’t see any vehicle build options on anything when I search for any of those 3. Hope someone has a lot more knowledge than I! cheers Dave
  6. Thanks Steve, I’ll give it a go in a couple of weeks after our holiday.
  7. Sorry, forgot to say. The 04 model I had needed a new air pump. £1300 from Audi. £300 from the US manufacturer, 2 hrs to fit. (Prices fm 8yrs ago) also found a US supplier that makes replacement air bags, but they’re not rubber and guaranteed for life. suspension on all Audis is another issue unless you buy new, all the bush’s are part of the suspension arms (moulded in), anywhere between 80-100k they’ll need replacing. £3k by Audi for an A6 ( prices from 5 years ago) but you can buy all the bits for about £600, That’s a job any competent garage can do.
  8. Hi Steve, I’ve owned both and prefer the Allroad. The air suspension can cause problems, just like every other bit of technology. the original Allroad had the air pump underneath the car, current models is inside and better protected. the avant (my son has a c7 avant, I’ve got c7 Allroad, both he and everyone of my friends that have ridden have commented on the more comfortable ride in the Allroad. (As do what car? Reviews). The difference is very obvious when I’ve been in his car. if you ever need to drive in any snow, the avant is ok to 2/3” deep, after that it turns into a snow plough. (It happened, we never got to work that week!) I took my original 04 Allroad through 8” of and on another occasion 2’ of flood water. The height adjustable air suspension makes that easy. the ability to adjust the ride height also helps with any uneven ground some of the more remote car parking areas seem to suffer from. (And a steep drive to get over the drive/footpath hump!) probably best to ask for an extended test drive of both if you have any doubts. good luck Dave
  9. Can anyone explain how you release the headlight unit electrical connector? I’ve tried every variation I know of or have seen previously but I can’t get the catch to release. Any ideas folks? cheers
  10. Audi won’t tell you what bit you need or give advice over the phone in case you act on it a nd get hurt or don’t fix the car properly and it causes a crash! - it’s so they avoid any liability! if you go in and talk to them it might be different.
  11. Try ‘LLLParts.co.uk’ keep selecting Audi, after 3-4 pages you’ll find a list of Audi models, good luck, there’s a lot on there!
  12. Does anyone have any wiring details for a 2015 a6 c7, specifically for the headlights and how to release the plug! I’m trying to retrofit LED fog lamps (my car has ACC, so no fogs). I was planning on tapping off the ‘all weather’ lamp wiring (& hoping the control unit can be recoded to come on with sidelights) but: 1. I can’t get the plug off the headlamp unit! 2. When I opened the all weather lamp cover on the back of the headlamp to see the wiring colour, turns out Audi use black wiring throughout the internals, so I can’t identify which core in the plug on the outside is which. plan B is to add 2 new cores through the plug to tap into the wiring inside the headlamp but that’s really, really tight! So if anyones got wiring data for the headlamps showing which core does what I’d be really grateful I can both see & reach (just) the plug but can’t figure out how to release it. There’s a catch on the side, I’ve tried moving the catch in all 4 directions (up, Down in & out) but no luck in releasing it! also open to any other ideas to get this done? cheers all Dave F
  13. Wasn’t planning on removing the ACC obviously! just that fog lights with a low wide beam are very useful on dark country lanes around here.
  14. Having been through this with an old (2004) Allroad, we found the seal in the pump had worn, so, although it would pump the up, over a day or 2 it would drop down again, other possibility is there’s a hole/leak from the airlines somewhere but I’d suspect the pump seal is the culprit.
  15. Has anyone tried adding fog lights to an A6 C7 with Adaptive cruise? It’s just that the Radar sensors for the cruise control fill in the apertures where the Audi standard foglights would fit, so I’m wondering if anyones found some linear (long and thin!) LED lights that can fit in the slots to the inner sides of those apertures. I’ve had a quick measure and there’s a space about 140mm by 35mm to fit them in. Or has anyone got any other thoughts? cheers Dave
  16. Look for the build spec label, it’s in the spare wheel well in my 2015 Allroad, The codes you’re after start with ‘DD’ all below are for the V6 diesel variants. I have the 218ps (160KW ) engine, so the code is DD5 Others I’ve found are: DD1 - 221kw DD3 - 230Kw DD6 - 240 Kw DD7 - 190 Kw website is http://igorweb.org/equidec.aspx another useful site is: https://www.bezwypadkowy.net/media/kunena/attachments/63/audi-option-codes.pdf Hope this helps.
  17. Hi Sean, My v8 Allroad with the tiptronic box used to do this but in cold weather only. But, there is no clutch in a Tiptronic box, it uses a hydraulic ‘torque converter’, (also known as a slush box’) if it’s not providing drive then it’s possible the box needs to be refurbished, seals etc can degrade over time, there was also a filter in some of the early Tiptronic boxes that should have been changed along with the oil every 40k miles. (Not specified in Audi documents but every gearbox specialist recommends it. Lack of oil changes eventually damages the box. You didn’t say how many miles you’ve got on the car or if it was new or second hand when you bought it. If 2nd hand and the previous owners didn’t do the oil changes, that could explain things. It’s worth looking up online for an auto gearbox specialist, they’ll probably be more help than Audi (unless it’s under warranty. The Multitronic (multitragic as a lot of Audi techs say! Sums it up really) gearbox is entirely different to the Tiptronic box in that it’s a ‘CVT’, (Continuous Variable Transmission), using some sort of belt drive and opposing cones, one the driver (input) the other the driven (output) (similar to the Toyota/Lexus CVT’s) it’s just the software in the Audis that mimics the steps of conventional gearboxes. The DSG gearboxes use 2 electronically controlled clutches in an otherwise conventional gearbox. (Also known as a ‘clutch less manual’ as they have no clutch pedal and as far as the driver is concerned, is just an auto box. Hope you get it sorted. Dave
  18. I’ve since spoken to an Audi service centre. When they change your oil, they don’t use use (trust?) the MMI oil level sensor, they use a ‘special tool’ that they put into the dipstick tube to measure the oil level. in other words- they use a dipstick!
  19. I put approx 6.6 litres in, measured from the graduations on the oil cans. I took at least 7 litres out as it was well over the MMI max indication and about an inch above the ‘Max’ bobble on the dipstick before I changed the oil. as I have no idea when the built in oil level sensor was last calibrated ( suspect it was at build), then it’s about 6 years overdue for re-calibratation, as an engineer who used to deal with stuff like this everyday, I’d trust the volume that went in and the dipstick over an uncalibrated sensor every time.
  20. Helpfully, The owners handbook doesn’t give any capacity for oil. Just the ‘add 0.5 litres’ if the MMI says ‘add oil’. I got the 6.5 from other Audi forum posts.
  21. It’s a 2015 car, but as far as I know it’s meant to take 6.5 litres.
  22. I put in just over 6.5 litres, (there was a bit over 1.5 litres in one oil can) so it’s approx but def slightly more than 1.5.
  23. Ok, oil change finally done, couple of the T50 Torx bolts were seized, eventually used a chisel to get them turning. Oil level on dipstick is just above the ‘max’’ bobble, MMI shows about 1/3 up from min to max. I reckon I took at least 7 litres out.
  24. I’ve only recently got the car, FSH but the oil is very black so thought I’d change it anyway, got under there today to do it and found that 2 of the Torx bolts on the undertray are either T55 or T60, the other 2 were T50, got every size up to T50! So I had to drop it off the stands and go buy one of each of the bigger 2! Dark when I got back so either tomorrow or Thursday hopefully.
