Multiple oil ( & coolant) leaks, raised crank-case pressure?
Stevey Y replied to ChrisP's topic in Audi A6 (C8) Forum
Hi if you want to see what a blocked PCV will do look at the late Ford Transit, my fellow cab driver has a 20 plate and in short was suffering the same symptoms as you he even murdered the DPF and EGR Valve and multiple crankshaft seals before they narrowed it down to the PCV which is integrated in the rocker cover and had been changed 40k ago, any bore wear will cause excess crankcase pressure which would normally escape through the PCV, Positive Crankcase Ventilation system, if it can't escape the gas will take the path of least resistance, seals, back up the bores and ultimately destroy the Turbo as it will cause oil feed fluctuations to that unit, gone are the days when a tube venting into the world and filled with wire wool to stop the oil getting out will do. Hi you will have to establish what type of headlight bulb you have, my guess is D3s but yours was the changeover year and could be D5s which have the ballast built in to the bulb casing, the D3s has a separate ballast bolted to the bottom of the light, you don't have to remove the headlight unit as you can get to the back of it via a removable plate on the wheel arch liner this gives access to the bulb housing via unscrewing the cap on the back of the unit, its fairly straight forward if the back of the bulb has D3s stamped on it replace the ballast and bulb, if its D5s you just replace the bulb, personally I have always replaced both sides as the other old bulb wont be far behind the one replaced, I have actually posted a while ago my refitting D5s bulbs on my 2016 A6 its probably in that archive somewhere, but establish which type of bulb you have first. Hi what on earth are you asking for, torsion bar ratings, Audi don't use them, not on about TORQUE ratings are we thats easily solved as its on the internet, the only way realtime to get exactly what your car is producing is give it a run on a dynamometer.

A6 C7 Avant (Allroad) rear light errors / corroded connector
Stevey Y replied to mrming's topic in Audi A6 (C7) Forum
Hi Phil, no deeper reason I have seen a lot of this type of things mostly Ford headlights one of which took me two hours to cut and shut 30 wires and solder them, the earth wires on the plug side normally rot back under the plastic coating you can tell that because the wire underneath is brown and not bright copper, this is caused by moisture ingress and the only real way to stop it is put a hefty coat of silicone grease around the outside of the plug when refitting. Steve. -
Hi have you tried heating the unit with a blowtorch this often loosens up any corrosion.
-
Hi if the car has been service regularly there is no need to change the chain unless it is noisy, what is the lifetime of the car, how long is a piece of string!.

A6 C7 Avant (Allroad) rear light errors / corroded connector
Stevey Y replied to mrming's topic in Audi A6 (C7) Forum
Hi thats an earth connection gone bad and heated up you wont get anywhere with that one I would also check the reciprocating terminal on the plug as it often burns that as well, only way round it if you don't want to buy a new unit and harness plug is if you can get into the back of the bit in the picture take the pin out replace the wire on that pin as far back as possible then either replace the pin or drill through the back of the grey part just above the plug, run the new wire through that'd join it at the back of the plug wiring, correct cable for that terminal, if you put in a pull free connector on your new bit of wiring you can disconnect it any time you like. Hi the auto boxes have two clutches one wet one dry and yes they are a fortune to replace because the shimming out of the wet clutch is labour intensive.
-
Hi no because it puts pressure on the output shaft bearing on the gearbox, technically the PB should hold especially with new discs and pads in august fitted them myself so I know all was correct, all BREMBO and no problems for the last 12k, what's the point of paying all that money for a car with a suspect handbrake system, I wouldn't mind but I had a cab test beginning of January this includes an mot and the PB ratings were well within spec Steve,

AUDI PRE SENSE - Light up every time you start then go out?
Stevey Y replied to K200CWC's topic in Audi A6 (C8) Forum
Hi yes its all part of the pre check cycle for the lights on the dash. -
Hi Plusgas and have you checked for a locking bolt.
-
Hi just looked at parts diagram and you are right its attached to the lift pump and looks like a right faf to change you have to remove the rear seat bottom to get at it and chances are if you have no record of it being changed its the original and just to add joy to the job there are three different types, consulted the garage I use and they said it is most likely cause of your problem, you will also need some new plastic fixings for the rear seat as the old ones are single usage, what a cr@p design most other models are fitted under the floor on the drivers side. Steve.
-
Hi the fuel pump has a screen in it to stop big debris I am talking about the actual fuel filter its self in the engine bay. Steve.
-
Hi therefore it could be the lift pump as if thats gone the sensor on the HPFP picks that up as its being starved of fuel, have you checked/changed the fuel filter recently as if its old or blocked that would cause issues.
-
Hi go on LLL carports put in your VIN and scroll through exhaust listings that should give you the diagram, if its one of the early CN engines it will be under the cat.
-
Hi it could be a weak lift pump in the tank or a problem with the fuel regulator on the fuel rail even a wrong fuel filter standard 4bar performance 6bar.
-
Hi if you publish the codes and symptoms that would help a great deal.

Alternator failure related to mild hybrid system?
Stevey Y replied to PocketsAintEmptyCuh's topic in Audi A7 Club
Hi the Americans are bang on it just like Mercedes, BMW, Audi have these built in problems that they are aware of and just hope we will all go away, the reason the dealers are so reluctant to change anything is that the parent company Audi will do everything in there power to shaft the dealer for the repair money for both labour and parts cost, had this years ago when I had a MK4 MONDEO which developed an oil leak which was spraying all over the turbo, at first they refused to honour the warranty because the. garage I use at my request had used Millers XFF oil which they claimed was inferior so I rang Millers and they sent a technical rep down who explained that XFF exceeded the pass rates of Ford oil so therefore it was actually superior to Fords own oil and further buried them by explaining Millers had just started supplying oil for the new RS Focus, so the dealer rapidly back tracked and did the job, they had the car for eight days, when I told my local garage they said they do the same job three or four times a week and it takes three hours, common problem apparently, yes they are lovely to drive, solid and well built in most areas but the company that builds them are profiteering scum, unless all the owners with these problem club together and take them to court this situation will persist. Hi thank you, I remember about fifteen years ago going to my mates house for a Chinese takeaway, while we were waiting he took me down to his garage to show me the Ducati 998 he had bought, only just over a year old, when I remarked it stank of petrol he replied that he had noticed that but couldn't find the source, so me being fascinated started a small inspection, I soon found the cause due to the slight bubble in the paint on the tank around the stop !Removed! for the fuel which when piped released a small drop of fuel, he had drained the tank while the cold weather was here but the previous owner obviously hadn't and there was a patch of rot inside the tank around the stop !Removed! entry, new tank no paint or decals £1800 paint and decals +£500. so we drained the tank got rid of as much of the rust as possible and coated the area with an epoxy fuel tank repair, two months later he sold the Ducati and bought a BMW R80. Will be staying on the forum, STEVE.

Hi Gareth many thanks, my main gripe with Audi is their myopic refusal to make any part a bit more user friendly price wise and once having got you on the hook quoting at least five days back order, Skoda parts are cheaper but Seat have made their cars cheaper to buy, all the rage down my end are KIA and Hyundai and to be fair second hand the Kia is not to pricey but the parts demand blood money, Having done intensive research in my new free time the Passat is the size I need and a clutch for the 2.0 is around £500 including flywheel the engine is used in the Q3 but quote that when buying parts from Audi the clutches and timing belts double in price, its badge engineering at its worst I would class it as a form of badge racism, as in your case they shut down every avenue of escape, its all about control. I loved the car but should you be prepared to pay over £1500 for the clutch parts, its not a BENTLY. Regards Steve. Steve.

Hi there are two thermostats one on the water pump which is prone to sticking open, if its a cn engine and has the solid inlet manifold the other thermostat is under that that one controls the cabin heat and you can change it without removing the manifold just buy a new core unit and seal, I did mine on my A6 similar engine it fiddly but doable, also posted pics of parts and how to in the A6 C7 part of the forum. Steve.

Hi gents, Sunday I was half way through my shift when I pulled in to get some diesel at my local BP I filled the car up went round to the drivers door to get some money out of my change dispenser then closed the door locked it and went to pay, got my receipt and trolled off to use the loo, when I came out the whole forecourt was going garraty and the car was gone, apparently the car had rolled off on its own down the ramp and across the road into a wall/hedge on the other side, the handbrake had failed to hold and let go when I got in the passenger seat the handbrake activation light was on, been driving me mad to find the reason, the pads and discs were renewed in august plenty left on pads and discs, went on the net and found a couple of people who had the same thing with A6 Avant all within the build dates 2011-2018 both manuals both garage forecourts, today they wrote the car off, sad it happened but in a way glad of the end result as over the last couple of years I have become thoroughly disillusioned with the company over the eyewaterinw price of the parts and the lack of availability of parts, look at the adblue pipe fiasco which ranged from they don't make them anymore to they are waiting to find a new supplier, on a seven year old car, really, my clutch needed replacing so we had £160 slave cylinder £300 for the pressure plate and driven plate, new seals £50 and £800 for the flywheel all + vat, you can't get any of the parts even though they are now available through aftermarket as Shaeffler reckon they don't have them to supply the aftermarket suppliers but the dealers have loads at twice the price, funny that, then we come to the pipes some of which you can only get from the dealers I was about to fork out for another feed pipe from the clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder, two and a half feet at most £160 all in, then we have their labour charges, its not the car I loved it, its the totally corrupt profiteering that lies behind it I think they are trying to push us literally into buying the new Hybrid/electric models then they can have a field day with everyones wallet, my neighbours 15 plate A4 got hit by another neighbour which dented the door so it needs a new door they told her today they are writing it off because they can't get a new door for eight months and the repair plus the courtesy car rental will come to over £10000, its all premium brand mythology with premium prices, if you look back to the seventies Audis were very cheap to try and get a foothold in the British market and they were very good cars but no one was queuing to buy them, they marketed them on an affordable alternative to cars like the Granada,Vauxhall Viscount, Rover, they seem to have lost their way with the statement that they only want to produce cars for the premium market, people with loads of money, me I am glad I am out my next cab will be a Skoda/Passat the parts oe are half the price and plentiful which is what I need, I will stay on the forum as I have a reasonable knowledge of Diesel/Petrol Audis but I wont be going back to own another one. Steve.
