Hi there is no manual adjustment, don't know the condition of discs and pads but changing them helps if worn other than that if its a manual hand brake there is normally an adjustment on the lever inside the car but if you have to start winding that up it means the cables have stretched beyond their service length and need replacing if you adjust it overly the cables break. Steve.

Hi if its an aftermarket radio I don't think coding will be required as it works independently of the original system and has no affiliation with the BCM and probably has a can bus shunt in it so any cars system will accept it, but the code for the original will be on VCDS so just make a copy of it as plan B. Steve.

A6 2lt diesel mpg lower than my TT 2lt petrol

Hi its probably that the newer car is euro six + 2 and thats where the extra horsepower comes from, more fuel and air, just a theory. Steve. -
Hi both lights are emission related if they are both orange its just warning you of a fault, its when they are RED its time to worry. Steve.

Hi no visually check the pads, if the backing plate is about 4mm from the discs they are knackered, there are loads of options on eBay as long as they are marked E11/E9 they are O.E. standard, its worth paying the extra couple of quid for the ones that come with the wear sensor. Steve.

The arms are some sort of cast ABS plastic which deteriorates with age and weather.
-
Hi think you may well find that you already have them, remove the plastic mounting plate on the jet and the wiring should be on the side. Steve.
-
No it means you have about 20% left on the linings, beyond that the piston travel is likely to seize out. Steve.

Hi Joe, sounds like the pump is ok as the pump operating for a second after shut down is what its supposed to do to take up any air in the system and if its only running for the same time on start up thats ideal, which brings me back to the rail pressure regulator which is a spring loaded device that is solenoid controlled but it can have a tendency to stick when worn as they are not individually monitored by the ECU they generally throw up a code for rail pressure the clue could be that the car only does it on rough roads, they don't like being rattled around when worn, the reason for the effect not happening when accelerating hard is because it will use a part of the valve stem in the unit that is infrequently used, once the valve is worn they can stick and starve the rail of pressure as it is slow on reacting to the opening pulse. Steve.

Hi I think you need to change the o2 sensor, that may well cure your problem. Steve.

Hi unfortunately Jon is 100% correct, premium brand or not its a fact same as the timing chains fitted to Mercedes/BMW, the design is flawed in so much as if it was running dry exhaust gas it would be fine but if you throw Adblue and the water vapour into the mix it becomes a glutinous white substance that just blocks the cooler tubes this then corrodes the tubes as Adblue when wet and partially solidified is extremely corrosive on base metals. Steve.

Hi if you take out the original lamp the part number is stamped on the back casing, if you are not sure post a picture and someone on here will point you at the right number. Steve.
-
HI yes any defective sensor will cause problems as it throws the whole system out so most likely yes, if you fit a new unit it will have to be readapted so it works in harmony with the other sensors. Steve.
-
Hi you would be amazed at what you can do with it, activate dormant functions on your car, check soot and ash levels in the DPF even when the last regeneration was as well as reset the Adblue level if that goes wonky, it will even let you check the amount in the tank and then there is a host of re adaption portals for just about any sensor/valve on the engine. Steve.
-
Hi you can disable it with VCDS, the system won't work anyway with the aircon on as that would be to much loading trying to start it frequently and drag the compressor round whilst starting. Steve.
-
The one you are looking at will have some chain lock assembly, the idea is you fill the car with just the right amount of oil and then drop the graded bit down the hole and lock it off at where the oil reaches the top mark, thats full, you can't leave it in as it has no sealing on it, believe me I have the same engine and there is a dipstick for it in the U.S. but if you want to pay £160.00 + £30.00 shipping you are welcome, its cheaper to use the level sensor on the MMI until it goes off its !Removed! like my one did and then just get a new one about £70.00. Steve.

Hi only way to find out whats going on is get the car scanned for faults. STEVE.

Hi same as electric cars no one wants to publish the carbon emissions produced in manufacturing or the fact that dead batteries for the car are virtually non recyclable and extremely toxic, but that won't matter in a world of we only want you to believe implicitly what we tell you, in fact the dark side of production is not good P.R. same as where did the last strain of Covid originate. Steve.
-
Hi do you know anyone with VCDS/OBD Eleven as either of those would throw up a much more definitive picture of whats going on, problem with these vehicles is that most generic code readers just give you a code which may well be itself generic, in short it covers a section of the engine and multiple sensors. Steve.
-
Hi Marty sorry to hear its reappeared, might be worth trying another bottle of Cataclean as it obviously did some cleaning and it says on the bottle it might need two goes at it. Steve.
-
Hi can you publish the code please, this is where VCDS or OBD Eleven score as they give the part number of the offending module, also have you tried a global reset on all windows with the key fob. Steve.

2010 2.0TDI Audi a4 B8 Automatic Soft Regen??
Stevey Y replied to ScottyG96's topic in Audi A4 (B8) Forum
Hi no if you use a proprietary DPF cleaner and when its regenerating just drive until it stops, the DPF cleaner makes the soot particles smaller and burn off at a much lower temperature, I use a bottle a week as I do a ton of town driving say six or seven hundred miles a week, I have been checking the soot/ash loadings after regeneration and its regularly -1.5grams of soot and between 7-8 grams of ash so the cleaner actually works, moral of the story is don't turn it off in the middle of a regeneration. Steve. -
Hi Joe you have the earlier mono pump type and yes you should hear the pump every time even for a couple of seconds as it takes up the air space in the fuel line, easiest way is leave over night and then try the ignition on and see what the duration of the pump run is a worn pump will run for some time indicating that the pressure is being lost, but a healthy pump will run for about 5 seconds as its not loosing as much pressure, easy way to check pump flow is ok is disconnect the in feed from the filter hosing and put it in an old litre coke bottle, turn on the ignition and if it fills in record time its not the pump, therefore the only other culprit would be the fuel rail pressure sensor on the inlet side of the rail [screws into the rail end] and this is easy to change just let the pressure in the rail dissipate overnight before you change the unit. Steve.

Hi go to your local Audi stealer I think from memory the clips are about £6.00 each, they are a one hit affair as they normally break when the seat is removed which is a fairly violent operation [lots of cursing]. Steve.

2010 2.0TDI Audi a4 B8 Automatic Soft Regen??
Stevey Y replied to ScottyG96's topic in Audi A4 (B8) Forum
Hi no such thing as a soft regeneration it either does it or not, there is no passive regeneration, suspect your car is not driven very far as the fans come on because it has tried to initiate a regeneration and failed because the engine has been turned off, if you do this often enough this will fill the oil sump with diesel as these are post injection engines, the fans operate all the way through the regeneration process to dissipate the extreme heat caused by the blast furnace temps inside the DPF [extra burning fuel ], in essence give it a bottle of DPF cleaner in the tank and take it for a good run 22mls minimum. Steve.
