  1. Hi you can disable it with VCDS, the system won't work anyway with the aircon on as that would be to much loading trying to start it frequently and drag the compressor round whilst starting. Steve.
  2. The one you are looking at will have some chain lock assembly, the idea is you fill the car with just the right amount of oil and then drop the graded bit down the hole and lock it off at where the oil reaches the top mark, thats full, you can't leave it in as it has no sealing on it, believe me I have the same engine and there is a dipstick for it in the U.S. but if you want to pay £160.00 + £30.00 shipping you are welcome, its cheaper to use the level sensor on the MMI until it goes off its !Removed! like my one did and then just get a new one about £70.00. Steve.
  3. Hi only way to find out whats going on is get the car scanned for faults. STEVE.
  4. Hi same as electric cars no one wants to publish the carbon emissions produced in manufacturing or the fact that dead batteries for the car are virtually non recyclable and extremely toxic, but that won't matter in a world of we only want you to believe implicitly what we tell you, in fact the dark side of production is not good P.R. same as where did the last strain of Covid originate. Steve.
  5. Hi do you know anyone with VCDS/OBD Eleven as either of those would throw up a much more definitive picture of whats going on, problem with these vehicles is that most generic code readers just give you a code which may well be itself generic, in short it covers a section of the engine and multiple sensors. Steve.
  6. Hi Marty sorry to hear its reappeared, might be worth trying another bottle of Cataclean as it obviously did some cleaning and it says on the bottle it might need two goes at it. Steve.
  7. Hi can you publish the code please, this is where VCDS or OBD Eleven score as they give the part number of the offending module, also have you tried a global reset on all windows with the key fob. Steve.
  8. Hi no if you use a proprietary DPF cleaner and when its regenerating just drive until it stops, the DPF cleaner makes the soot particles smaller and burn off at a much lower temperature, I use a bottle a week as I do a ton of town driving say six or seven hundred miles a week, I have been checking the soot/ash loadings after regeneration and its regularly -1.5grams of soot and between 7-8 grams of ash so the cleaner actually works, moral of the story is don't turn it off in the middle of a regeneration. Steve.
  9. Hi Joe you have the earlier mono pump type and yes you should hear the pump every time even for a couple of seconds as it takes up the air space in the fuel line, easiest way is leave over night and then try the ignition on and see what the duration of the pump run is a worn pump will run for some time indicating that the pressure is being lost, but a healthy pump will run for about 5 seconds as its not loosing as much pressure, easy way to check pump flow is ok is disconnect the in feed from the filter hosing and put it in an old litre coke bottle, turn on the ignition and if it fills in record time its not the pump, therefore the only other culprit would be the fuel rail pressure sensor on the inlet side of the rail [screws into the rail end] and this is easy to change just let the pressure in the rail dissipate overnight before you change the unit. Steve.
  10. Hi go to your local Audi stealer I think from memory the clips are about £6.00 each, they are a one hit affair as they normally break when the seat is removed which is a fairly violent operation [lots of cursing]. Steve.
  11. Hi no such thing as a soft regeneration it either does it or not, there is no passive regeneration, suspect your car is not driven very far as the fans come on because it has tried to initiate a regeneration and failed because the engine has been turned off, if you do this often enough this will fill the oil sump with diesel as these are post injection engines, the fans operate all the way through the regeneration process to dissipate the extreme heat caused by the blast furnace temps inside the DPF [extra burning fuel ], in essence give it a bottle of DPF cleaner in the tank and take it for a good run 22mls minimum. Steve.
  12. Hi keep it as is and work it up to near concours condition and just enjoy it and the memories, if you start heavy modification it along with your memories will turn a bit Frankenstein. STEVE.
  13. Hi you would have to get a donor car or loads of parts most of which will probably need reconditioning, then there's the problem of mounting points as well as getting the transfer box aligned properly, cost wise it would be more cost efficient to buy a later Audi which is already a Quattro. Prime example my attempt to turn my MK1 Escort 1100 into a Mexico cost me two girlfriends and cash wise a good deposit on a house. Steve. Steve.

Hi get the car plugged in and scanned for faults that should illuminate the problem. Steve.
  15. Hi if you can get the car towed out it may well free the brakes, the discs will clean up when its driven could be the fuel in it has deteriorated but the only way to make sure is get the car scanned to pick up the fault codes, any mobile diagnostic tech should be able to do that for a modest fee. Steve.
  16. Hi go on LLL carparts and plumb in the VIN that should bring up the correct diagrams and part no for your car. Steve.
  17. Hi most of the time its one of the two lift pumps under the back seat, I don't know which code reader you used but if its VCDS that should tell you which one is misbehaving, yours is classic symptoms of a lift pump degrading the question, is it the main pump or the assisting pump, my guess is the assist pump which is on the n/s rear of the seat pan, you could be lucky and its a corroded connector which is a common problem. Steve.
  18. Hi belt should be every four years or 80k + ancillary drive belt every 30k or two years, gearbox oil every three years or 30k, all the above are whichever time/milage occurs first, aircon every two years with regard to exceptionally hot summers like last year. Steve.
  19. Hi there probably are but I would pick the one with VAG specialist in the title, most mobile techs are terrified by your type of car as everything needs a special tool just to do a service, I would be looking for a static VAG specialist, as they will have the right tools and knowledge. Steve.
  20. Hi James, my idea of a service is oil and filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, plugs, if this is done once a year you won't go far wrong for the following reasons, plugs tend to degrade over short milage, air and fuel filters suffer the same, if you don't use anything other than premium fuel they may last longer but we have all of a sudden come from 6k or yearly service to 18k or every three years, this is all to make the car appear super cheap to run, then we have service plans which don't cover fuel filters and air filters, they might change the oil filter with the oil if you are lucky, main dealers are thieving scum, find a good independent and tell them what you want done, there are loads of posts on this forum from people who have dealership service history who have decided to have a go at changing their own air filter [simple] and found more dead leaves in the housing than are in your local park, over the years I have had more than enough arguments with main dealers over shoddy servicing, thats why I do my own at least I know its right. Steve.
  21. Hi there are tutorials for this dash removal on YouTube they are not difficult, would suggest using ECU Testing, google up their site and put in a request they are very efficient and that is where the other guy got his fixed. Steve.
  22. Hi if it was tap water you ran round the screen you won't find any leaks as tap water has a far higher surface tension than rain water has and won't do the low molecular creep found with rain water, get some water out of a water butt and if its a screen sealing issue it will go straight through. Steve.
  23. Hi did not realise Khans buddies were there to, just got our ULEZ letter for my daughters Q3 but she is not selling that she just won't drive up there £3000 per year plus if she had her old job and yet a Q3 petrol emitting twice as much CO2 is ok, how does that work. Steve.
  24. Hi try Nirrol in Barking in Essex. Steve.
  25. Hi get the battery changed/checked as a failing battery will cause all those symptoms, get the car scanned for codes and if they are all low voltage its odds on the battery going down hill.
