Hi if its the metering solenoid or the pressure solenoid both are pretty easy to change about fifteen mins if you take your time, just don't over tighten the new one and obviously only change the one thats wet, whilst in there check the connector pipes to the injectors in case its one of them weeping. Steve.

Hi if you know sweet FA about cars these places get rave reviews, I have one near me that I used for my first cab until he charged me £18 for a piece of water pipe about a foot long on the bypass side of the coolant tank, he said it was special pipe that was expensive, it went again six months later so I bought three metres of pipe with eight jubilee clips for £8 from the local motor factors and again replaced it myself, funny part is the motor factors non special pipe never ever went again, thats why I use another garage which the first guy used to call the Barn as thats what it looks like, their breathtaking honesty and efficiency has been the benchmark of me using them for the last eighteen years, meanwhile the car repair palace has now got the owner insisting that his four mechanics take their gloves they use home to wash them every week as the gloves are the rubber palmed type with cotton backs and are expensive, the guy I use has boxes of them in the office which the mechanics use as they wish, the majority of these places are still trying to recover monies lost during the lockdown. Steve.

BTW they are called a lower control arm.

Hi I think the guy is trying to invent some very profitable work and as suggested I would definitely be seeking a second opinion as its the inner bush that normally goes and from the last picture yours looks MINT, it also looks like someone has sprayed release agent on to the ball joint rubbers so they appear to be leaking, also there are a myriad of poly bush kits available a lot cheaper to cure the problem you don't actually have. Steve.

Hi the LEDs normally have an adapter between the bulbs and the original plugs so if you just remove the adapter it should be plug in and play, if there is no adapter it means the LED bulbs connectors were made as a replicant of the original bulb. Steve.

Hi get the part number off the old unit and go on eBay I am sure I have seen them before for about £80, the rubber seal claps out with age and lets water in, if you get a new unit treat the seal to a generous helping off silicone grease that will stop it doing it again. Steve. -
Hi excellent post, you are in danger of becoming a serious home mechanic, I see Audi are as usual quoting starship part prices and I commend your thinking using the part numbers on eBay thats all I ever do as most of whats classed as aftermarket was used under patent by Audi in the first place, prime example when I was looking at my low pressure EGR cooler valve it was £360+ VAT and is made by VDO/Continental in Germany, the same brand valve with the same VDO part number on eBay £120 shipped, its a no brainer, throttle valve which incorporates the high pressure EGR, Audi over £400 same part eBay £150, if you have the original part numbers its like a kid being locked in a sweetshop, you can try everything. Steve.

Autumn/Winter job on my B6/B7 convertible - Oil pump drive
Stevey Y replied to gsmdo's topic in Audi A4 (B7) Forum
Hi it all depends on how long you intend to keep the car, whats the advantage in spending money if you intend to sell it in the not to distant future, none, but the whole point of what I was saying whilst in expensive process mode why not replace the whole kit which brings me to the point of why he has never ordered a drive before, thats because most people buy a kit and get it done at the local independent, my guy I use has done loads of them mostly on the V engined Audis the kit from them is nearly £1800 but the Febi repair kits are about £300, its entirely your choice but from my logic why spend all that money to do half the job. Steve. -

Autumn/Winter job on my B6/B7 convertible - Oil pump drive
Stevey Y replied to gsmdo's topic in Audi A4 (B7) Forum
Hi £1000 or so sounds like a bargain plus gaskets, plus fitting, plus anything else they think needs replacing, the engine will be bare for that money why not spend a little extra now to maintain the longevity of your existing engine the kit is right that you have sourced and will remove any future worries, I can't think of any of my friends in the trade that would try and steer me towards a potential money pit, furthermore if the drive is a major strip down why not do the whole lot while you are in there, the nylon guides wear and the chain will have stretched. Steve. -
This is the pipe that has cracked again Stevey, right in the middle where the 3 strengthening ribs are,i wondered if the egr was blocked and whether just get a new egr first as last, Its a shame as its taking the shine off an otherwise lovely car. Hi its only a short run pipe so I would not expect it to do that, it would suggest a blockage but it could well be an engine vibration issue but I doubt it as these things are made of a high grade stainless steel trouble being its very brittle, check the EGR cooler is not blocked. Steve.

Hi yes the pads to them are about £30 and the rest is just imagination. Steve.

Hi are they going to change the drive chain and sprockets as well. Steve. -
Hi your right they will, there is no way that belt has been changed, the previous owner probably had to have resuscitation when Audi quoted the belt change fees, so he sold the car, I have never understood this frame of mind when you can go find an independent garage that will do the job for less than half price, unfortunately I have seen this a lot in my lifetime so there are very few of these car supermarkets I trust especially when the salesman refuses to let you have a diagnostic check, I went to look at a Focus for my neighbour at various garages in my area we walked away from the diagnostic refusals the third one said sure plug in, I am having a cup of tea, do you want one, when he came back I had only found a couple of old faults and she bought the car for full asking price, I hope you clean these thieves I doubt it will cure them of it but just for once it will be nice to see Joe average get his own back and then some, I really wish you the best. Hi on both sides of the intercooler there is no hot side as such it just over warmed air from the turbo which is caused by compression of that air the cooler merely cools it to a suitable level, the heating is caused by friction, I would just check both in the diagram if there is no obvious leakage, and believe me you will see it, chase the pipework up above the cooler and check every hose to the throttle body. Steve.

Hi mysterious one this, its definitely not the turbo as this has nothing to do with the EGR if you could post a picture of it that may well shed more light on the subject it sounds like a blockage somewhere as thats the only time I have seen them fracture especially when some Div has blanked one end off.

Hi its either 5 or 7 if they are rubber they are the most likely to fail as they live in a world of cr@p from the unburnt gunge from the PCV valve, good skills with the diagrams. Steve

Hi Car Supermarket, was it the Aldi version I would swear on a stack of bibles that is the old belt I have Never seen a belt in that condition after that milage, I agree with Gareth get the car recovered to Audi for a proper engineers report, it definitely won't go the garages way, then take them to the cleaners via trading standards, you will have them by the short and curlys, I would also recommend if the garage offers a repair that you DEMAND that they pay Audi to replace the belt as quite rightly you have lost all trust especially after they quoted the old cookie of 75k, they must have forgotten about four years? as for the parts being hard to source thats Scallops, if they had bothered to ring the local TPS they would have delivered O.E. parts the next morning, but its cheaper not to do the right thing and just hope if they lie enough you will go away, UTTER SCUM. Steve.

Hi can't sue you under the trade description act about the weather, the turbo won't have to come off but I should imagine removing the trim above the intercooler is a raging possibility, if you PM me your model and VIN I will see if I can get a ball park diagram off of my parts system, normally the main suspect runs from the other side of the turbo to the intercooler then from the exit side of the intercooler runs to the throttle body if you get a good visual on the intercooler the rest becomes apparent. Steve.

Hi in all my years I have never known anyone to use the old belt again thats shocking, its an unwritten rule that if you change anything thats to do with the timing belt, water pump, idler pulleys etc you always put a new belt on REGARDLESS of what you view its condition to be, the belt should be changed along with everything else every 80,000mls or four years max, it has nothing to do with over tensioning those photos are a classic case of age deterioration which causes de lamination, example my old Mondeo taxi had developed a water leak from the water pump, the whole cam belt kit including pump had been changed 20,000 miles before, the pump was a warranty job but I specified a new belt at my own expense as that was not covered as it had not failed, for the sake of £24.00 for a new gates belt it was no major consideration, I covered 340,000 miles in that car and never had anymore problem with the belt. The garage mechanic you bought the car from needs stringing up anyone with half a brain would have looked at that lot and advised changing the whole lot but lame brain decided just to change the idler, its cheaper than paying £200 for a whole new kit and the labour costs as well, please tell me it was not a dealership you bought it from. Steve.
