  1. Hi it won't ever sound like the RS6 but will give a deeper note and better performance as its all about clearing exhaust gas quicker via a more direct route prime example being the exhausts on big engined trucks in America they go straight up wth no baffle boxes. Steve.
  2. Hi Gareth Redex is not cheap or the cheapest, all branded product comes from the same plants just different labelling and if you as I have had to search about for better deals you would soon find out that the average price is over £20 for ten litres, therefore one would conclude there is no such anomaly as cheap adblue, as for the companies proliferating product range, over fifty years of trading and a multitude of products might just indicate they make a decent product otherwise they would have gone bust a long time ago, oldest saying in the world, don't knock it unless you have tried it, I have used both their adblue and a lot more of their in tank DPF cleaner over the years both with good results, after just shy of a million miles I think I should be able to spot the lemon by now. Steve.
  3. Hi No its not legal and definitely won't do you any favours in the long run, long term effects can be catastrophic with regard to your wallet the P2002 code is the one that would worry me if its description is bank 1 as that will be the low pressure cooler going into retirement. Steve.
  4. Yep, there is no wiring for the lights running to the boot lid except for number plate lights and reciprocal power cables for the locking mechanism, from 2003 - 2010 they are all the same, please note the power and earth tracks as described. so replacing the unit at the back of the light is the most sensible option.
  5. Hi Gareth, the wiring for the light units runs inside the trim to the rear control unit in the boot and is nowhere near the loom for the tailgate which controls the rear wash/wipe HRW and fog lights on some models. Steve.
  6. Hi the lack of refrigerant may well affect the operation of the fan as the A/C unit senses no gas pressure, and being a single fan system the fan won't operate, with regard to the LEON they use the same radiator as the Skodas and this summer all the Octavias on our cab circuit had the fans going 24/7, small rads and a transverse engine no real natural airflow over the hot bits like you get with the north south configurations on our engines, if you held the revs at 2500 for the two mins required and the car overheated you wold have a real problem , head gasket/thermostat. Steve.
  7. Hi not really, remove the rear trim in the boot and its possibly two 10mm nuts holding it in, undo them and it pops out, you will find a more in depth video of the process on youtube. Steve.
  8. Hi most likely it needs renewing as that type of unit has steel tracks running along the back they supply power and earthing to the bulb holders and are prone to corrosion, there is not a lot you can do with the unit once its gone, try the connection plug you might get lucky. Steve.
  9. Hi thats what cracks me up when people waffle on about only ever buying Audi parts, the whole range is made by someone else and packaged in the Audi boxes so if you want to buy something thats possibly three times the price from the dealer, Knock yourself out, example my oil level sensor £168.00 plus vat from Audi, local motor factor sold me a Febi unit for around £80.00 all in and guess what when I matched the numbers on the casting they were identical except some wag had ground off the dealer logos, Quantum oil is made by Q8, drop links by Lemforder, engine mounts by Febi, I suppose it must be a great consolation when you are pot less knowing you gave your all for the VAG cause. Steve.
  10. Hi the gearbox oil change is every 50k or two years and I use Fuchs Titan which is whats supplied to Audi but cheaper because its in Fuchs own bottle, my advice would be to get the filler plug out before the drain plug as its a real Barsteward to get out the first time. Steve.
  11. Hi it will only be a Bosch sensor as thats what it was fitted with, steer clear of the new E10 fuel as that murders the sensor, recently fitted two sensors one after the other to a Peugeot these were Denso which are pretty good but were annihilated about a month after fitting, finally cracked it when I asked which fuel he used and the answer was, the new stuff so now his using the old standard fuel and its been fine for the last three months
  12. Hi its quite possibly a water temperature sensor as they don't affect the gauge which has its own separate sensor. Steve.
  13. Hi Gareth if you read the first post it mentions its a single fan system, the easiest way to test the old system would have been to switch the aircon on and if its the fan gone it won't work, as for the fan coming on for the emissions test the tester must have worn his pants on his head and taught the wrong end to talk, has anyone checked the flow rate on these radiators its phenomenal, the total thesis behind emission reduction is cooler running this equates to bigger radiators, I have only had my fan come on naturally once since I have had my car and that was on the forty degree Tuesday we had this year and I was stuck in stop start traffic for ten miles on the M25 even then it was only on for about three min, when I had my cam belt changed they left it running for best part of an hour with no expansion tank cap on to get rid of any air and the fan never once kicked I can attest to that as I was standing right by it adding antifreeze as required. Steve.
  14. Hi at a rough guess about eleven litres goes down to 1500 miles when light comes on and takes at least seven or eight litres to fill back up. Steve.
  15. Hi I can't give any precise figures but I have to refill about every three months which equates to about 6000 miles, bearing in mind you use a lot more doing town work, its like the EGR valve which is open more when doing town work but hardly ever when out on a motorway. Steve.
  16. Hi I am glad you opted for the suck it and see option and yes you will probably replace the car before the bushes, if you ask Steve Q about his starship milage Audi I am sure that even after some 300k + the only thing he has posted was a rear shock top mount bush that had the audacity to fail. Steve.
  17. Hi my A6 which runs virtually the same suspension bush set up has now done 140k and the bushes were showing signs of perishing at about 50k, they all do it its the nature of high shore rubber its like your skin as it gets older it wrinkles, a bush is truly knackered when the rubber part de bonds with the metal outer and flops about, advisory is just another term for we want to rape your wallet/worry you to death, if your that set on replacement buy Powerflex poly bushes for it they are not cheap but you will never replace a bush again, my opinion for what its worth is leave well alone if there is no movement they can't fail it, I hate dealers and their useless warranties they prey on people who don't quite understand mechanics and exploit them. Steve.
  18. Hi when you fit any new air flow part/sensor you must use VCDS or similar to readapt the new part in simple terms it gets the new part to re learn its operating parameters, try driving the car for a while and see if the light drive cycles out. Steve.
  19. Hi if its DSG it might be the shims are slightly out on the new clutch, and ask a silly question did they change the flywheel. Steve.
  20. Hi you are supposed to change the last two numbers of the original serial number and yes the BEM accepts that regardless of brand, 0.1 of a volt is acceptable over a few hours its such a small drop, in the car it will drop to 11.5 volts on a cold night until you get it started and it quickly recovers to over 12 volts is your alternator charging check done at the battery or from the alternator itself. Steve.
  21. Hi probably, its a bit of a sod to get to but doable. Steve.
  22. Its a small back box and the connector plug becomes corroded, mine was only like it one side so the left hand beam was searching for coins in the gutter, cleaned it and the lights levelled as they should.
  23. Well Roy if you are only driving six miles or so to the shops it probably will, if you do a lot more milage daily thats where the problems begin with the lack of coding especially if the car is some six years newer than yours and the electrics are totally different. Steve.
  24. Hi do you mean the light range control unit, if so its under the scuttle cover on the outside of the car on the side where the fresh air sensor [peculiar brown/black thing] is mounted. Steve.
