dashcam disconnected whilst being serviced
Stevey Y replied to LG-58's topic in Audi Servicing and Repairs
Dont hold your breath Gareth its the usual, we have a few like this recently which strengthens my case for a subscription as it will keep the Wiileys away as the dont like paying to publicly whine. Steve. -
Hi sounds like the BEM unit on the negative lead is on its way out, but before condemning that I would make sure the battery is not failing as most low current faults stem from that except for the last fault which can only be described as vintage according to the fault date, what is the make of your existing battery? and I dont suppose you know if it was coded when fitted. Steve.

Hi if you post a picture of your headlight that will help as if you have projector lenses my guess is that it will be a D3s bulb which will possibly need ballast unit as well, both are easy swaps. Steve.

Hi, the report sounds like we can't be bothered, at no point did they remove the outlet pipe from the matrix [easy] to check the physical flow as often this is restricted by the Silica bag debris from the bag in the expansion tank which has probably ruptured and allowed the crystals in to the water system, if you think about it the fan works and both pipes to the matrix are hot therefore it has to be a water flow issue, try and find a independent garage that can flush the system for you that would be a good start, as for the basic settings bit I dont get that as if there is a fault inside the airbag it should give you a P code with a description of a mechanical or electrical fault. Steve.

HI Gareth, if the live data shows the injectors are running rich that means the engine temp will be cooler due to bad combustion, lean combustion will cause rapid warming internally therefore commanding the pump thermostat remain fully open despite the low ambient temp, I think the original posters problem was the oil fired auxiliary heater which was always a problem on cars sold in Scandinavia. Steve.

Hi yes you do need to buy credits, just the hundred will do the job, plus the subscription otherwise any changes you want to make you just get a big padlock in red saying thats not allowed, if as you say you are good with tech a mate of mine said there is a cloned version of VCDS floating around on the web which covers cars of your age might be worth looking at as I have used his version a few times on cars he has been working on and its pretty much the same as my kosher version except it baulks out on some complex long coding whereas my version wont, cost him £60 for the cable but you dont get all that subscription Cr@p. Steve.
-
Hi either of those platforms are good but the OBDEleven will have the edge but is becoming expensive with the subscriptions and token scheme, if you can run to VCDS that is the best and if you only want single VIN it works out cheaper in the long run, being a cable operated device it connects faster and wont rely on bluetooth where both the others do and you can end up in pooh creek if the WIFI is not that good where you are. Steve.

Hi you said you tried to put your lights to LED did the new units have a Canbus link if not its probably caused an embedded fault in the lighting control module, would suggest scanning the car and deleting any light related faults. Steve.

Hi no noises as the cam lobes are designed to throw the cam followers out to prevent valves from annihilating the pistons I reckon it could well be the crank position sensor. Steve.
-
Hi most people have either VCDS or OBDeleven they both do it, Carista, no idea, if you consider I always did my filter change over 270k the way I described I can't see the problem, they do it that way at most garages thats where I learned and never had a problem. Steve.
-
No supposedly about it Cliff the right tool does the job, even a lot of the generic code readers used in garages now have this facility. Steve.

Hi its air getting into the clutch system via either the master cylinder on the clutch or the slave cylinder on the gearbox, do you have any solid information on when the clutch was last changed, if not it probably needs a clutch as the slave cylinders are in the box and are famous for letting in air, my daughters Q3 did it back in the summer and I had put a new clutch in at about 40k before, she had the same problem at first no gears and that soon developed in to pedal loss, the gearbox was removed clutch checked and a new slave cylinder fitted with new top hat connectors that solved the problem. Steve.

Hi if the filter is mounted under the floor [tube type] pour a little diesel in to it and once connected cycle the ignition on and off eight times for ten seconds a time and the lift pump should fill it, once started run for at least five minutes as the HPFP is self bleeding and chucks out any air through the return side. Steve.

Has the proverbial brown stuff hit the FAN?
Stevey Y replied to Stevey Y's topic in Audi Club Lounge / General Chat
Well said Terry we have no leaders, well none you can believe in, I mean the new lot are too busy robbing older people of their pensions whilst organising the rest of the country's demise. Steve. -
Hi so far this week we have had Labour back tracking on the emissions target again due to Vauxhall and Nissan threatening to pull the plug on U.K. operations if the government dont ease up on the punitive fines if they dont meet their sales targets on new electric vehicles, how do you sell something that not many people want, then you have the European problems, VAG have thousands of brand new vehicles that have been parked up for a year or over both electric and fossil fuel, the problem there is most average Europeans can't afford to buy them as the prices have rocketed and the quality of build is no where near what it was, we know all about that, meanwhile the Chinese are flooding the market with cheap EVs but even they are not selling by the bucket load, to add to the woes of VAG Donald Trump is talking about higher tariffs on European cars,Jaguar are going to cut their dealerships by 75% and only sell all electric cars in wealthy areas, Porsche have stated that they will carry on with petrol car development and sales until someone forces them to stop, does anyone else sense Rebellion in the air, if Nissan decide to pull out the queues at the DWP offices will be outrageous in Sunderland, more waste of skilled labour with not enough supermarket jobs to go round, low wages and high prices create poverty and crime and at the end of the day recession. Steve.

Hi you can swap to 17 inch as long as you make sure the tyre/ wheel profile matches the 16 inch set up in overall diameter. Steve.
-
Hi most likely flywheel related as these often go before the clutch, the judder is defo the friction plate wearing or contaminated, how old is the clutch? Steve.

Hi Marta did mention give her a little oil, wait until the milage gets up and you are putting in a litre every 1500 miles that will be fun, you wont get great MPG as these cars are very heavy which why the diesels were always favourite because of the low end torque they produce, all makes of car have their faults but engine faults at the premium level they claim are actually unacceptable, I personally would never buy another one, overpriced parts, labour charges and insurance just dont stack up for a reason for owning one, the earlier cars are better and more robust but post 16 on I think they had convinced themselves electric was the future and cut back on the quality of the parts on fossil fuelled cars they built. Steve.

Hello and first impression from a new A3 owner
Stevey Y replied to Axe Steve's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi unless you have microscope eyeballs you wont be able to see any degradation in the oil or the million parts of crud in the filter, just consider it a worthwhile expenditure as the alternatives wont be anywhere near as cheap, from experience if the oil comes out brown and burnt it is a precursor of future problems. Steve. -
Sorry VCDS is a lot more expensive.
-
Hi it sounds like what you need, they are all going over to subscription now except for VCDS which inexpensive to buy in the first place, with regards codes the Audis will remember them for years if you dont clear them diagnostically, the systems are complex but have a monocular obsession with old codes. Steve.

Hi Terry just go on their site as often as not they are doing deals on bundles thats where I bought my Pro kit and you can only buy the tokens from them anyway, the tokens are only really used when you are doing something in depth or you have bought a car that is later with the new SFD incorporated in the software, [thats another story], if you have it you can check the car for codes relating to the handbrake and if you have none its probably the old problem of the pads sticking in the runners, if you have this advice you can do your own service mode take the callipers apart and either clean and put the old pads back or renew them which I suspect is what they want to do, and their prices for pads are eyewatering price wise, but instead go get some nice Brembo pads for about a third of the price on ebay, would suggest Carparts in motion, you can also do things that the dealer WONT DO like grease the slider pins for the calliper with silicon grease as this is what causes the pads to grip on as well when the sliders are dry and this extends the life of the pads, its the old adage before getting it to go faster, make sure it stops faster. Steve.
-
Hi Terry yes the OBDEleven is a first class tool for the average Diyer and at around £100 with a bundle of tokens it will save you a fortune in the long run, you can code pretty much anything on the car that you have replaced, read and clear faults, in fact it will pay for itself a thousand times during your ownership and if you dont quite understand the codes come back here, WIN,WIN. You can even reset your rear handbrake perimeters. Steve.

Hi its probably the EGR valve is knackered thats what kills the turbo and will keep blocking the DPF as there is no real control over the amount of exhaust gas the unit allows in so it blocks the DPF which in turn clogs the variable vane side of the turbo, all turbo diesels work on the same principle that everything has to be working properly, if one part of that process breaks down it affects the other two. Steve.

Who was Audi Main dealer in Southend 2012
Stevey Y replied to micktom's topic in Audi Club Lounge / General Chat
Hi Southend Audi and I think they were at the Eastwood end of the 127 until they moved up to the Rayleigh Weir. Steve.
