  1. Hi Monroe are O.E so are Sachs and bilstein B4 the manufacturer has been in and out of bed with most suppliers some point it all hinged on who was cheaper at the time. Steve.
  2. Hi they all look the same as the one in the picture if you go into any parts shop and give them your REG/VIN numbers they will be able to get the right part, they are very easy to fit. Steve.
  3. Hi who told you that and if its electronic steering that is definitely misinformation. Steve.
  4. Hi the function is probably there but you will need VCDS to enable it as I had to do with my car this only works if you have the boot release button on the door card drivers side and if you press the boot switch the tailgate lifts on its own. Steve.
  5. Get the garage to delete both faults and see which one stays as they will probably leave the cat fault so they can sell you a new one.
  6. Hi did the garage that fitted the EGR run the adaptation process, if not that is probably the cause of that fault as the ECU is still working on the information for the failed unit and will not operate properly, the only way to do this is via OBD ELEVEN/VCDS software programs as I am pretty sure Maxxis/ Snap on don't have the facilities presently within their software, seems to be a problem with most generic fault readers. Steve.
  7. Hi there are two, one is at the end of the rail as in picture the other is on the HPFP. Steve.
  8. BTW it could also be the two oxygen sensors one before the cat and one after the cat they also give up codes for a failing cat.
  9. Hi the cat would cause that problem, would be worth slinging a bottle of Cataclean in the tank I have used this on several cars I have worked on for friends and neighbours with spectacular results, the problem is the Cat will throw a wobbler if its only running at 95% efficiency and at about £15 a bottle its cheaper if it works than a new Cat, my neighbours Focus has been treated and now runs like a Swiss watch. Steve.
  10. Hi would get the car scanned to find out which sensors are causing your current issues otherwise it will be like training a chronic asthmatic for the London Marathon. Steve.
  11. Hi they say to maintain optimum results use about three times a year and with regards to the other additives I have used them on my last three cabs racking up some 750,000 miles and never had to have a DPF van when the last one got to the near solid volume because the wonderful fifth injector had packed up a new injector and a forced regeneration sorted that out, my other cab before that got plugged in at 270k by my neighbour so he could check out the latest Bosch software his boss had got him, he remarked that it was all pretty good for the miles especially as I must have had a new DPF recently, WRONG it was the same one it was built with, he looked shocked and explained the car was only showing 2% soot loading and 4% ash, I would definitely give the Archoil a go. Steve.
  12. Hi the original fault was flagged as the entry flow to the DPF was becoming blocked this is measured by the DPF pressure sensor which has one pipe connected to the intake flow and the other is connected to the out flow, both pressure measurements are sent to the ECU so it can monitor the flow of gas and particles that are being trapped by the DPF, as soon as the readings on the in flow start to drop below threshold status it starts a regeneration to burn off the soot, problem is it only burns enough to start operating again within the prescribed parameters therefore some particles are left in situ, thats where the Catalan comes in as it dissolves the remaining particles in between regeneration so the frequency for that process becomes less as the holes in the core are less blocked as when new. The ultimate DPF technology was designed by the Italians who were experimenting with Microwave technology for city diesels this gave a 98% burn rate and resulted in near minimum Nox but the project was binned when the European Union went anti diesel, and of course all the nobs in Brussels know whats best for us.
  13. Hi do you think he needs it plugged in as both the faults mentioned rear there ugly heads when the battery is failing as the main ECU goes into a default strategy to try and save the electric as both units consume a lot of power when operating. Steve
  14. Hi here are mine.
  15. Hi yes I think my garage thought I was winding them up until they phoned TPS and found another shocking price, the parts guy at the garage laughingly said he thought it was a good price and if I wanted he could order four for me so I had spares, I just find this mentality really sad as they are preying on people who don't know any better. Steve.
  16. Hi I think its near the top of the box on the driver side and is only visible from the underneath with the trays off. Steve.
  17. Hi quite right, get yourself fixed first the car will always be there, wish you well. Steve.
  18. Hi the trap has no measurable base it just throws a code when the entry appears to be congested it won't take a lot to trigger this as it works the same as the CAT and that will throw a light and a code because it is only working at %95, the error margin is that small, with regard to the additives the Catalan will sort out the immediate problem after that you could give Hydra Maximus a go or Archoil 6900 d synthesis a go, I use both and found the Archoil had the edge as it cut the regens down and if you consider as a cab my car is mostly short journeys what I have been using so far has kept it clear for the last 90k of its life so far. Steve.
  19. Hi the engine mounts are controlled in the same way as Mag ride shocks with electrical current, the mounts DO NOT throw up a code when worn out my engine was shaking before I replaced mine and the ECU will cut the power on the engine when the mounts are excessively worn to stop the engine from twisting so its worth a visual check and wiping around the mounts with clean kitchen towel to check for oil, the only sensor that would cause that sort of problem otherwise would be the MAP as that has two elements one of which runs the lower air path when starting and you need very sophisticated software to read the function, which type of diagnostics are you using if its VCDS depending which version you have you might pick the problem up on the live data. Steve.
  20. My thoughts entirely Steve and depending on the milage they all fail between 80-100,000 miles the clue is its getting progressively worse which would be the loss of oil from the mounts. Steve.
  21. Hi are you sure its the damper as often as not it can be the wiring to the damper or the level sensor playing games. Steve.
  22. Hi Cataclean is a better product as it dissolves the carbon into small bite size particles which are more easily burnt and it cleans the innards of the CAT/DPF but at 60k I wouldn't get over excited as decent fuel and an additive will keep it at bay. Steve.
  23. This is not a DIY job as you need a four poster ramp and a hydraulic gearbox cradle to take the weight of the engine, the mounts are available from Carparts in motion on eBay for about a third of what AUDI want for just one you can buy the pair and if you phone them they will tell you which listing to buy, my units have done 15k since fitting all fine and dandy, as you can see the dry one on the right is beginning to delaminate and the left had no oil. Steve.
  24. Hi just when driving and you could see the gearstick moving backwards and forwards when accelerating and decelerating, that part won't be noticeable as much in an auto equipped vehicle, the main benefits were smoother gear changes and the cabin was a lot quieter as one mount had spat all its oil out and the other wasn't far behind it, due to the torque the rear mount had gone soft so I replaced that as well Steve..
  25. Hi Thomas I did a bit of digging and yours is one of the famous Hella electronic control boxes not vacuum, and it looks like a doable job just beware of the micro circlip on the actuator linkage, TPS do a repair kit for a lot of Groats but there are people on the net who offer a repair service, a lot cheaper, apparently your unit suffers the same problem as the Fords did with the circuit board inside fails or the Cr@ppy plastic gears strip. Steve.
