Hi the question you have to ask is why is it only running on two cylinders?, might be something as simple as a duff injector, you really need to get the car plugged in and get some codes before hurling $$$ at a new one which most likely a second hand unit of dubious origin which may well end up digging a money pit for you, I personally could only give an informed opinion based on DTCs and the milage of your unit as it may well be that its more economical to have your existing unit rebuilt which saves on a lot of coding and another ECU. Steve.

Hi from memory you use the old BEM code and change the last two digits, I believe there is now a tutorial on youtube telling you how to recode a battery with no BEM using VCDS any Audi will do as they are all the same when it comes to pairing. Steve.

RESOLVED - Fault code 1314 - intermittent - No symptoms
Stevey Y replied to gsmdo's topic in Audi A4 (B7) Forum
Hi Mike sounds like you have already thought of the ultimate solution, replacing it should give it another 16yrs by which time Greta Thunberg will rule the world and we will all be past caring. The ability to look into your cars innards can get very addictive but who cares as long as you spot the problems before you have to call for recovery, as for the battery most people leave the pairing bit to some acne riddled zoon at Halfords so I would consider it your first step to motoring self sufficiency, it is not as hard as they want you to believe it is. Steve. -
Hi I am sure it won't be a drama, my rule of thumb has been to get the engine warm and use a low nm torque wrench set at 25nm and normally there is a bit of a crack as they let go, the idea of the warming up is that the plugs are a different metal to the housing thread so they cool quicker and contract. Steve.
-
Hi wait for the 10k to clock up the 27 days is an over estimated figure based on what the ECU software has calculated. Steve.
-
Hi Tony not sad at all its called preventative maintenance, I do it and picking up faults that were intermittent was the way I knew my Oxygen sensor was about to die so I bought a new one and saved it the trouble of blocking my DPF as that won't regen with a dodgy sensor. Steve.

Audi A4 first inspection service due, 2 years from registration?
Stevey Y replied to chinna's topic in Audi A4 (B9) Forum
Hi the inspection service is a load of old scollops, they wander around filming the underneath with a camera trying to find things they can make money out of and terrify you into throwing your bank account at them, things like brake pads 25% worn, slight lip on discs, tyres only have 5mm of tread, the list is endless I bought VCDS and terminated the service inspection message by setting the date to 00/00/0000, that stopped it and over the last 100k I can't say I missed it. Steve. -
Hi relays are probably Hella but TBH most branded relays are good, as for the connecting loom I wouldn't bother unless its as stiff as a Skinheads boot and showing signs of splitting/insulation failure they don't have to do a lot and will soon let you know when they need changing as they normally melt. Steve.
-
Hi if you change the Glowies sensible money says change the relay, Bosch are O.E. and its a no brainer if the originals have lasted this long, I wish your garage the best of luck as unless they have been changed before and the threads greased on reassembly its a nail biter of a job. Steve.

Audi A4 headlight, fog light and daytime bulb replacement
Stevey Y replied to Dan G's topic in Audi A4 (B8) Forum
Hi just find out what the bulbs are [Handbook] then go on eBay and look for some upgrades for example if the dipped beam is H7 or otherwise have a look at Philips diamond vision. Steve. -
Hi nothing wrong with an old Focus they were good cars but the Audi is a different level as just about everything on the car has to be coded when replaced its just another way of dealers making mega bucks out of the customer, the thing I always admired about the Fords was if you replaced something like an EGR on the older ones technically it had to be readapted but if you did not have the software available it meant a couple of hours of ropy running and then it would sort its own life out, the Audi on the other hand will spit its dummy out and throw up lights on the dash, best example is if you disconnect the battery on a Ford you just reconnected it and off you went as the battery counter is in the dash, the Audi will probably loose the electric window functions and a few others so you have to go and ruin your wallet with them £170 just for the inspection, if Audi dealers were named after a bird of prey they would be known as Shitehawks. Steve.

Hi yes you have to buy credit packs to use any of the adaptation functions but the charges for blocks of credits are pretty reasonable and the unit itself is almost as as capable as the VCDS which I paid a lot for and depending on the VIN level I.E. unlimited it works out very expensive, in essence you would have to buy a hell of a lot of credit to get anywhere near the price of VCDS, I am currently looking at my friends new set up which is generic and produced by Autocom and so far on my car its picked up every fault the VCDS has, I wish you luck with your system as I know they are constantly improving and if all else fails you are always welcome to come on here and pick our collective brains, it won't take long, Lol. Steve.

Hi the only way you may get away without a reset and all the other associated problems is get another battery of the same voltage amp hour rating and connect it with jump cables to the jump start posts in the engine bay, this maintains the voltage continuity while you remove very carefully the main battery terminals and isolate them in a pair of marigold gloves, forgive the stupid question but why do you have to clean the battery terminals on a 2019 car?. Steve.
-
Hi Tony I can agree on the duplicity of the dealers 100% the answer to your question albeit a little late is the OBD Eleven Pro as I got to borrow what you have just bought and found it a bit limited on functions. Steve.
-
Hi I don't think it has anything to do with the delete, you mentioned high milage therefore I would say its probably the EGR cooler inside the DPF that throws up the p2002 fault as the eco thinks the DPF is blocked when it isn't, only just got on to this fault through dialogue with another member Jdragon in the A5 B9 part of the forum have a read it will be an education as yours is virtually the same engine emissions set up. Why only one Radiator fan on 2009 Audi A4 TDi 120
Stevey Y replied to Darryl's topic in Audi A4 (B8) Forum
Hi does your car have aircon?, if so its possible that due to the HP they did not fit the extra fan as the existing fan is more than adequate to run both cooling processes, on the older models the aircon reservoirs are larger and hold more gas, it was only on the later models with less reservoir capacity that the auxiliary fans were introduced to cool the lesser volume of gas more efficiently which is why most older aircon systems run a lot colder as they have more gas, this all started about twenty years ago from yet another E.U. pollution directive on aircon gas escape in an accident which had breached the cooling gas reservoir and released the gas into the atmosphere, thats why they are not allowed to use Freon in fridges etc anymore. Steve. -
Hi if you want the Redneck solution try a gallon of paint thinners the lunatic AKA Scotty Kilmer on youtube absolutely loves it and Hates Audis, maybe its his secret plan to rid the U.S. of the brand, the design of the EGR system is to say the least peculiar but I have no doubt Mrs Merkel and co were obviously euphoric when they came up with this little number, at least BMW had the sense to put the cooler on the side of the engine at the top so at least us have a go brigade were in with a chance, Audis propensity for over engineering is breathtaking, Scotty on the other hand just keeps churning out videos on how to kill your car and the walking dead love him for it. Steve.

Hi I can vouch for the Archoil the tech told me the cooler will need changing every 80k, my engine is the same as yours and has covered just over 120k using this stuff so something in it definitely works, still its a matter of personal preference, maybe I am lucky or just been ahead of the game as I started using it at 40k when I bought the car, any thing that makes the fuel burn more efficiently is good the only fly in the ointment is the PCV system that supplies plenty of oil vapour for the soot to stick to inside the EGR system thats the Gary Glitter of the whole process it interferes with the whole system especially with direct injection as there is no cleaning effect from the incoming charge on the valves. Steve.
-
Hi sounds perfect and as the tech explained the TSB was issued to stem the tidal wave of new DPF units being fitted under warranty and in a lot of cases not curing the problem as they put the old cooler back in, brain dead or what, why would you not replace the whole thing in view of the fact that the cooler and new valve probably cost them around £100 when buying in bulk, the more I get into Audi the more like Ford they become and believe me I have had more than enough run ins with them over the years. Steve.
-
Hi I think I have found your problem, spoken to a rather drunk Audi tech last night who explained that its probably the EGR cooler beginning to block up as that will make the ECU think its the DPF blocking, the cooler can be found hanging out of the back of the DPF under the turbo, Audi issued a TSB to the dealers about this a while ago as it was becoming a frequent problem.
-
Hi not wheel sensors, it sounds more like the throttle body has lost some teeth in the gearbox or the peddle potentiometer is throwing a fit. Steve.
-
Hi you are better off waiting for VCDS as that will tell you the part number/ cause of your problem, the system you currently have looks like one of those awful generic things which do not really have the capacity to read the car properly, I like the premium bit in the description. Steve.
