  1. Hi yes I think my garage thought I was winding them up until they phoned TPS and found another shocking price, the parts guy at the garage laughingly said he thought it was a good price and if I wanted he could order four for me so I had spares, I just find this mentality really sad as they are preying on people who don't know any better. Steve.
  2. Hi I think its near the top of the box on the driver side and is only visible from the underneath with the trays off. Steve.
  3. Hi quite right, get yourself fixed first the car will always be there, wish you well. Steve.
  4. Hi the trap has no measurable base it just throws a code when the entry appears to be congested it won't take a lot to trigger this as it works the same as the CAT and that will throw a light and a code because it is only working at %95, the error margin is that small, with regard to the additives the Catalan will sort out the immediate problem after that you could give Hydra Maximus a go or Archoil 6900 d synthesis a go, I use both and found the Archoil had the edge as it cut the regens down and if you consider as a cab my car is mostly short journeys what I have been using so far has kept it clear for the last 90k of its life so far. Steve.
  5. Hi the engine mounts are controlled in the same way as Mag ride shocks with electrical current, the mounts DO NOT throw up a code when worn out my engine was shaking before I replaced mine and the ECU will cut the power on the engine when the mounts are excessively worn to stop the engine from twisting so its worth a visual check and wiping around the mounts with clean kitchen towel to check for oil, the only sensor that would cause that sort of problem otherwise would be the MAP as that has two elements one of which runs the lower air path when starting and you need very sophisticated software to read the function, which type of diagnostics are you using if its VCDS depending which version you have you might pick the problem up on the live data. Steve.
  6. My thoughts entirely Steve and depending on the milage they all fail between 80-100,000 miles the clue is its getting progressively worse which would be the loss of oil from the mounts. Steve.
  7. Hi are you sure its the damper as often as not it can be the wiring to the damper or the level sensor playing games. Steve.
  8. Hi Cataclean is a better product as it dissolves the carbon into small bite size particles which are more easily burnt and it cleans the innards of the CAT/DPF but at 60k I wouldn't get over excited as decent fuel and an additive will keep it at bay. Steve.
  9. This is not a DIY job as you need a four poster ramp and a hydraulic gearbox cradle to take the weight of the engine, the mounts are available from Carparts in motion on eBay for about a third of what AUDI want for just one you can buy the pair and if you phone them they will tell you which listing to buy, my units have done 15k since fitting all fine and dandy, as you can see the dry one on the right is beginning to delaminate and the left had no oil. Steve.
  10. Hi just when driving and you could see the gearstick moving backwards and forwards when accelerating and decelerating, that part won't be noticeable as much in an auto equipped vehicle, the main benefits were smoother gear changes and the cabin was a lot quieter as one mount had spat all its oil out and the other wasn't far behind it, due to the torque the rear mount had gone soft so I replaced that as well Steve..
  11. Hi Thomas I did a bit of digging and yours is one of the famous Hella electronic control boxes not vacuum, and it looks like a doable job just beware of the micro circlip on the actuator linkage, TPS do a repair kit for a lot of Groats but there are people on the net who offer a repair service, a lot cheaper, apparently your unit suffers the same problem as the Fords did with the circuit board inside fails or the Cr@ppy plastic gears strip. Steve.
  12. Hi Thomas its the control module on the turbo which will be either vacuum controlled or an electrical control box my guess is its vacuum and not holding the pressure and depending on your model of turbine the units are available as a replacement for around £70-100. Steve.
  13. Hi the measurement is a over complicated time span since the last regeneration, the bit you are interested in is the code for the particle trap which is telling you that the entry to the core is becoming blocked this won't affect the regeneration to start with but will further down the line, the core of the DPF is a bit like a sieve in its collection of particles and if you get some big bits it will throw that code, the Cataclean removes/melts the larger particles and restores the holes in the core to their former size so it breaths a lot more efficiently, the Millers is good but is only really helpful if doing a lot of mixed driving and you may want to switch to an additive specifically for cars doing a lot of town work as I have had to, there is still no substitute for a long blast on a motorway every so often, let us know, BTW the Catalan has no cetane booster in it as it simply cleans. Steve.
  14. Hi give it dose of Cataclean I used it on my daughters Q3 which when purchased had only done 12 miles a day for most of its previous life and suffered with this sort of problem, follow the instructions to the letter and the most noticeable thing on her car was the ball of rubbish that shot out of the exhaust during the first cycle drive the car now runs like a steam train and does more miles now so a year later the problem has not reappeared. BTW no such thing as a passive regeneration on these cars that only occurs on cars with early cordierite cored DPFs, Ford, Fiat. STEVE. Steve.
  15. Hi well done just shows you what a little research and logical thinking produces, I am glad it goes down as another potential victim of the stealers has escaped, damn fine post. Steve.
  16. Hi been watching this one and would be more than a little shocked if you were actually promoting this kind of grey area and possibly illegal part being a recommendation of this forum, most people research which size wheel and tyre combination would suit and retain the original rolling radius as Grayskull pointed out, do it the right way and you don't have to change any coding or anything else for that matter apart from which I can't see the attraction in driving around with rubber bands on each corner, apart from the accelerated puncture problem I doubt the insurance company would be impressed, on some of my previous cabs I have had a right hard time explaining why I wanted to go from 19inch to 17inch wheel and tyre combinations, what solved it was copies of bills for my puncture repairs and they finally grasped the concept of more rubber less punctures the only other stipulation was that I used O.E. wheels in the chosen size that was fitted to that range of vehicle, they are not keen on aftermarket wheels as the failure rate is far higher than the manufacturers wheel because they are made of inferior alloy, thats why they are cheaper. Steve.
  17. Hi phone Carparts in motion and get them to match the sensor to your Reg/VIN Steve.
  18. Hi try ECU Testing phone them up and ask if they can modify your unit which will then retain its original coding they recently helped another member on here by substituting his coding on the original unit which was knackered to a new donor unit he bought on line. Steve.

Hi yes indeed once you have it you will wonder how you ever got anywhere without it as its versatile, I have always been a fan of manufacturer specific softwares but in saying that I am now running a trial with Autocom which seems to be the way to go with generic software. Steve.
  20. Hi I had the same thing on my A6 which is not that different with how it works, my educated guess is its the engine and gearbox mounts, what happens is the engine mounts are Hydro mounts which are filled with oil and controlled electronically and stiffen up when stressed, the problem is they wear/split and the resulting vibration and movement knocks out the gearbox mount which is bonded rubber/metal, I got all three mounts on line from carparts in motion and if you ring them they are very helpful and what you want is listed normally on eBay and a damn sight cheaper than Audi, all the parts I bought were Febi and all movement ceased, I use the car as a cab and done over 9k since fitting just before Christmas and had no problems. Steve.
  21. Hi there is no repair option, get the part number off of it and go fishing on the breakers sites for original or eBay for aftermarket which will be cheaper. Steve.

Hi you would be better off getting the unlimited VIN option as the option below that is only three VIN. Steve.
  23. Hi the purge valve will be compatible with Both engines they wouldn't bother sourcing a different valve as the turbine makes no difference to the purge values, as stated the letter at the end of the part number is only a build year denomination, I recently had to buy driveshafts and the left had a K at the end of the part number and the right had a G at the end of the part number, turns out both shafts are the same and the aftermarket items I bought covered A-L and were also fitted to numerous other vehicles in the range, had them on the car for over 500 miles 260 of which I did Sunday going to simply Audi, no problems whatsoever. Steve.
  24. Hi try one of the mixed brand shows and you will see what I mean, I suppose with this type of show its more about who you know and the only way you ever get to know them is by talking, its a shame it was so last min.com with us as I was rather looking forward to meeting the man who drives a legendary example of the marque. Steve.
  25. Hi by the looks of it its under the driver side and is a silver box, the rocker trim pulls up and slightly toward the rear the carpets moulded and the trim has lug which locate into recesses in the carpet so be careful once the trim has released you will probably have to remove the footrest at the front under the pedal box so you don't destroy the carpet. Steve.
